Rio de Janeiro, November 19: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Gita Gopinath, the First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), during the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. PM Modi is in the city to participate in the global summit alongside world leaders.

Gita Gopinath, a 51-year-old Indian-origin economist, expressed her delight over the meeting by sharing a selfie with the Prime Minister on her social media account on X. In her post, she wrote, "It was a pleasure meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G20 Summit in Rio. He shared India’s remarkable achievements in reducing hunger and poverty. The world should draw inspiration from these creative initiatives by India."

Prime Minister Modi, in response, shared her post and emphasized India’s commitment to addressing global challenges. He wrote, "India is dedicated to promoting food security and eradicating poverty. Rio de Janeiro, November 19: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held meetings with several prominent global leaders in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. These included South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, French President Emmanuel Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The Prime Minister expressed his delight over these interactions by sharing photos on social media platform X.

Following his meeting with Prime Minister Modi, French President Emmanuel Macron shared a video on X, stating, "It is always a pleasure to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi as our partnership with India is rich and multidimensional. We reviewed the progress of initiatives launched during my state visit last January and discussed key international issues."

On his meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, PM Modi shared on X, "A very productive meeting. For India, the comprehensive strategic partnership with the UK is a top priority. In the coming years, we aim to collaborate on technology, green energy, security, innovation, and trade, while also strengthening cultural ties."

Prime Minister Modi is in Brazil for the G20 Summit as part of the second leg of his three-nation tour. The first leg of his trip included a visit to Nigeria, where he arrived on November 16 and was welcomed at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on November 17. During his visit, PM Modi met with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu. The final phase of his tour will conclude on November 21.

From Rio de Janeiro, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Guyana to participate in the second CARICOM-India Summit in Georgetown. This visit holds special significance as it marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Guyana since 1968. During the G20 Summit in Brazil, PM Modi is also expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the event.

A passenger plane crashes in a residential area of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

A tragic plane crash occurred in Sao Paulo, Brazil, today when a 14-year-old passenger aircraft operated by Airline Voypass crashed in a residential area. The plane was en route to Sao Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport with 58 passengers and four crew members on board.

Authorities, including the Sao Paulo state fire department, have confirmed the incident. In response, seven firefighting crews were dispatched to the crash site in Vinhedo. Videos shared on social media captured the dramatic moment of the plane descending into a cluster of trees, followed by a massive cloud of black smoke.

The airline has yet to disclose the cause of the crash, and information about the number of casualties or survivors is still unavailable. The crash has sparked widespread concern, with videos and photos of the scene circulating rapidly on social media platforms.

Emergency door of Brazilian passenger plane bursts open mid-flight

Brasilia, June 17 (IANS) The emergency door of a Brazilian passenger burst open during mid-flight thousands of feet in the air, causing panic on board, the media reported.

The incident took place on Monday 30 minutes after the plane took off from Sao Luis to Salvador, the Daily Mail reported on Friday.

A footage of the incident on social media showed that instruments and luggage were placed near the back of the plane and by the hatch which unexpectedly opened.

It shows the aircraft moving through the clouds as the air rushes in and objects flap around the passengers.

The passenger filming then leans over to get a better view of the emergency door and the incredibly steep drop to the green fields below can be seen through the clouds.

Members of the band for popular South American singer Tierry were on board the small passenger aircraft, the Daily Mail quoted local media website O Informante as saying.

Investigators have launched a probe into the incident.

The incident comes after a group of six people, including a child and a newborn baby, survived a sudden loss of power on a plane in Brazil earlier this year.

An emergency parachute was deployed and they were able to land safely.
