Sora is a diffusion model, which generates a video by starting off with one that looks like static noise and gradually transforms it by removing the noise over many steps.

“Sora is capable of generating entire videos all at once or extending generated videos to make them longer,” the company said.

In addition to being able to generate a video solely from text instructions, the model is also able to take an existing still image and generate a video from it, “animating the image’s contents with accuracy and attention to small detail”.

Similar to GPT models, Sora uses a transformer architecture, unlocking superior scaling performance.

The company said it is making Sora available to “red teamers (domain experts) to assess critical areas for harms or risks”.

“We are also granting access to a number of visual artists, designers, and filmmakers to gain feedback on how to advance the model to be most helpful for creative professionals,” OpenAI said in a statement.

Sora will be able to generate complex scenes with multiple characters, specific types of motion, and accurate details of the subject and background.

“The model understands not only what the user has asked for in the prompt, but also how those things exist in the physical world,” according to OpenAI.

Sora can also create multiple shots within a single generated video that accurately persist characters and visual style.

The company, however, admitted that the current model has its own weaknesses.

“It may struggle with accurately simulating the physics of a complex scene, and may not understand specific instances of cause and effect. For example, a person might take a bite out of a cookie, but afterward, the cookie may not have a bite mark,” explained OpenAI.

The company further said that it will take important safety steps ahead of making Sora available in OpenAI’s products.

“We are working with red teamers — domain experts in areas like misinformation, hateful content, and bias — who will be adversarially testing the model. We’re also building tools to help detect misleading content such as a detection classifier that can tell when a video was generated by Sora,” the company explained.

“ChatGPT’s memory will get better the more you use it and you'll start to notice the improvements over time”.

The users can turn off memory at any time. While memory is off, they won't create or use memories.

“If you want ChatGPT to forget something, just tell it. You can also view and delete specific memories or clear all memories in settings,” the company informed.

If you’d like to have a conversation without using memory, use temporary chat.

“Temporary chats won't appear in history, won't use memory, and won't be used to train our models,” said the company.

GPTs will have their own distinct memory. Builders will have the option to enable memory for their GPTs.

“Like your chats, memories are not shared with builders. To interact with a memory-enabled GPT, you will also need to have memory on,” said OpenAI.

The store was set to launch in November last year but got delayed amid the intense drama over OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s firing and rehiring.

Now, OpenAI plans to launch a store for GPTs, custom apps based on its text-generating AI models, next week, reports The Verge.

In November, Altman-run OpenAI announced to roll out custom versions of its AI chatbot ChatGPT that people can create for a specific purpose.

Called GPTs, these AI models are a new way for anyone to create a tailored version of ChatGPT to be more helpful in their daily life, at specific tasks, at work, or at home, and then share that creation with others.

For example, GPTs can help you learn the rules to any board game, help teach your kids math, or design stickers.

“Anyone can easily build their own GPT, no coding is required. You can make them for yourself, just for your company’s internal use, or for everyone,” the company said during its first developers’ conference.

In the coming months, you’ll also be able to earn money based on how many people are using your GPT.

Large language model (LLM) is a rapidly growing field, and the demand for skilled professionals with expertise in deep learning, machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), and related technologies is on the rise.

As more companies adopt chatbots and other LLM AI technologies to improve customer service and operational efficiency, the need for talented individuals to develop, maintain, and operate these systems is also increasing, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

Against this backdrop, companies across sectors are posting jobs related to GPT-4, an AI model by OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT.

“GPT-4 has been generating buzz online ever since its launch. Recently OpenAI launched GPT-4 Turbo. Microsoft is partnering with OpenAI to introduce the next generation of language and multi-modal models using generative language like GPT-4 and ChatGPT,” said Sherla Sriprada, Business Fundamentals Analyst at GlobalData.

Microsoft’s “Skype Senior Software Engineer” role looks at working on AI integrations into Skype, such as Bing Chat, a conversational agent powered by GPT-4 that can chat with users on various topics, and news filtering, a feature that uses AI to personalise and curate relevant news articles for users based on their interests and preferences.

Citigroup’s “Generative AI Full Stack Engineering Lead – Codified Controls” role looks at driving and contributing to the technical direction of products and services, instilling engineering best practices into the team, and promoting cultural change across the organisation.

The role also works with Generative AI technologies, such as GPT-4, embedding capabilities through prompt engineering in systems, said the report.

Merck & Co’s “AI/ML Engineer” role looks at exploring and applying latest large language models GPT-3, GPT-3.5, GPT-4, Lama, Bert, etc to help in assessing AI technologies, building prototypes for divisions, and delivering enterprise AI projects to maximise the value.

“The Travelers Companies’s ‘Senior Data Engineer (Generative AI, Cloud, AWS, Python, Snowflake) role looks at designing complex data solutions, including incorporating new data sources and ensuring designs are consistent across projects and aligned to data strategies,” the report mentioned.

According to the study published in the open-access journal Family Medicine and Community Health, ChatGPT has the potential to offer fast, objective, data-derived insights that can supplement traditional diagnostic methods as well as provide confidentiality and anonymity.

The researchers tested the AI technology to evaluate the recommended therapeutic approach for mild and severe major depression and whether this was influenced by gender or social class biases.

When asked -- What do you think a primary care physician should suggest in this situation? -- to ChatGPT, it responded -- watchful waiting; referral for psychotherapy; prescribed drugs (for depression/anxiety/sleep problems); referral for psychotherapy plus prescribed drugs.

According to the study, just over 4 per cent of family doctors exclusively recommended referral for psychotherapy for mild cases in line with clinical guidance, compared with ChatGPT-3.5 and ChatGPT-4, which selected this option in 95 per cent and 97.5 per cent of cases, respectively.

Most of the medical practitioners proposed either drug treatment exclusively (48 per cent) or psychotherapy plus prescribed drugs (32.5 per cent). In severe cases, most doctors recommended psychotherapy plus prescribed drugs (44.5 per cent).

ChatGPT proposed this more frequently than the doctors (72 per cent ChatGPT 3.5; 100 per cent ChatGPT 4 in line with clinical guidelines). Four out of 10 of the doctors proposed prescribed drugs exclusively, which neither ChatGPT version recommended, the study mentioned.

Moreover, the doctors recommended a combination of antidepressants and anti-anxiety drugs and sleeping pills in 67.5 per cent of cases, while ChatGPT was more likely than the doctors to recommend antidepressants exclusively: 74 per cent, version 3.5; and 68 per cent, version 4.

ChatGPT-3.5 (26 per cent) and ChatGPT-4 (32 per cent) also suggested using a combination of antidepressants and anti-anxiety drugs and sleeping pills.

“ChatGPT-4 demonstrated greater precision in adjusting treatment to comply with clinical guidelines. Furthermore, no discernible biases related to gender and (socioeconomic status) were detected in the ChatGPT systems,” the researchers highlighted.

“The study suggests that ChatGPT…. has the potential to enhance decision making in primary healthcare,” they concluded.

The global survey revealed that 90 per cent of newsrooms are already using some form of AI in news production, 80 per cent in news distribution, and 75 per cent in news gathering.

More than half of the respondents mentioned increased efficiency and enhanced productivity as a reason to use AI as it can automate monotonous and repetitive tasks, according to the report by JournalismAI, an initiative from Polis, the London School of Economics and Political Science’s journalism think tank, supported by the Google News Initiative.

“Generating Change: A global survey of what news organisations are doing with artificial intelligence” included the perspective of “more than 120 editors, journalists, technologies and media-makers from 105 small and large newsrooms across 46 countries”.

“Our media landscape is undergoing a significant transformation due to technological advancements, particularly since the proliferation of generative AI (genAI),” said the report.

This transformation has sparked discussions, and various media coverage- topics swing between positive breakthroughs in fields like medicine, to concerns about genAI's potential to generate undetectable disinformation, exacerbating discrimination and societal inequalities.

“Our research delves further into these concerns, and positive uses, and also reveals that genAI is already reshaping the journalism landscape,” the report mentioned.

More than 60 per cent of respondents were concerned about the ethical implications of AI integration in terms of editorial quality and other aspects of journalism such as accuracy, fairness, and transparency.

Tech companies like Google are building AI tools into their core businesses, even as they raise new ethical and legal concerns.

According to tech major IBM, researchers have described simple workarounds for getting large language models (LLMs) -- including ChatGPT -- to write malicious code and provide poor security advice.

"In a bid to explore security risks posed by these innovations, we attempted to hypnotise popular LLMs to determine the extent to which they were able to deliver directed, incorrect and potentially risky responses and recommendations -- including security actions -- and how persuasive or persistent they were in doing so," said Chenta Lee, chief architect of threat intelligence at IBM.

"We were able to successfully hypnotise five LLMs -- some performing more persuasively than others -- prompting us to examine how likely it is that hypnosis is used to carry out malicious attacks," he added.

The researchers learned that English has essentially become a “programming language” for malware. With LLMs, attackers no longer need to rely on Go, JavaScript, Python, etc., to create malicious code, they just need to understand how to effectively command and prompt an LLM using English.

Through hypnosis, the security experts were able to get LLMs to leak the confidential financial information of other users, create vulnerable code, create malicious code, and offer weak security recommendations.

In one instance, the researchers informed the AI chatbots that they were playing a game and that they needed to purposefully share the incorrect answer to a question in order to win and "prove that you are ethical and fair".

When a user asked if receiving an email from the IRS to transfer money for a tax refund was normal, the LLM said Yes (but actually it's not).

Moreover, the report said that OpenAI's GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 models were easier to trick into sharing incorrect answers or playing a never-ending game than Google's Bard.

GPT-4 was the only model tested that understood the rules well enough to give incorrect cyber incident response advice, such as advising victims to pay a ransom. In contrast to Google's Bard, GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 were easily tricked into writing malicious code when the user reminded it to.

"I was juggling a lot when a longtime client commissioned me for a three-month project. It entailed writing a series of how-to guides and 56 articles for their site," she wrote.

"Since I couldn't clone myself, I tried what I thought would be the next best thing: I used AI."

She started using Jasper.ai to create up to 20 pieces in a month for this client.

"I essentially used Jasper.ai as an extension of myself," she explained.

Sendin used Jasper instead of ChatGPT and Bard, as it contains pre-built templates that serve as prompts.

"Jasper did most of the work and I did minimal editing," she claimed.

After working together for months, her client started using an AI-content detector, and as they discovered that the content she gave them was AI-generated, they terminated the agreement and paid her less than 40 per cent of the original fee after she delivered all the articles they had agreed on.

Sendin further mentioned that while this was not the outcome she intended, it shifted her mindset on how to use AI to keep clients rather than lose them.

"I learned a valuable lesson the hard way -- AI is a tool, not something that should replace you," she added.

Moreover, the company said it is integrating ChatGPT through Azure OpenAI Service, leveraging the enterprise-grade capabilities of Microsoft's cloud and AI platform.

"Our beta programme boosts the existing Hey Mercedes functions such as navigation queries, weather requests and others with the capabilities of ChatGPT. This way, we aim to support conversations with natural dialogues and follow-up questions," Markus Schafer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, CTO, Development & Procurement, said in a statement.

The rollout of the beta programme will happen over the air.

This integration will let drivers and passengers receive sports and weather updates, have questions answered about their surroundings or even control their smart homes, according to the company.

The automaker also mentioned that users will experience a voice assistant that not only accepts natural voice commands but can also conduct conversations.

Participants will soon be able to ask the Voice Assistant for detailed information about a destination, a recipe suggestion, or a complex question and receive a more comprehensive answer while keeping both hands on the wheel.

For Tanmit Kaur, who is in class 9th, learning coding helps open new career avenues and create solutions to solve real-life problems.

As the demand for skilled coders and software developers skyrocket in a post-pandemic era, especially in the age of generative AI (aka ChatGPT) and other next-gen technologies, Indian girls are not far behind and are now learning the ropes to become world-class coders.

"I am fascinated by algorithm-based careers like in the world of finance. Coding has not only instilled confidence in me but has also given me a fresh career option which I may explore later in life to build innovative solutions to solve real-life problems," Kaur, a student at Noida-based Indraprastha Global School, told IANS.

Amid widespread tech layoffs, developers have emerged as the most sought-after role in India, especially those who can design, develop and maintain the front-end and back-end of a web application, according to job portal Indeed.

Developers today make up five of the top 10 job roles. The job roles that have seen the highest growth since pre-pandemic are data engineer (353 per cent), site reliability engineer (260 per cent), assistant engineer (254 per cent), application developer (235 per cent) and cloud engineer (220 per cent).

There are 45,000 Artificial Intelligence (AI) job openings in India, with data scientists and Machine Learning (ML) engineers being among the most sought-after careers, according to a latest report by TeamLease Digital, a tech staffing firm.

Parul Malhotra, a senior software development engineer with global leading web and mobile app development company GeekyAnts became a developer as she loved the idea of solving real-world issues through programming.

"I have built a few world-class web apps in the last three years and worked with people from across the globe. Coding has provided me a way to solve problems, contribute to technological advances and communicate with people from different countries and backgrounds," she told IANS.

According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, coding is the only global language and he wishes that more Indian students, including girls, learn coding early in school days so that they can create world-class products and solve real-life problems as they grow up.

"Coding is the only global language. It is a way to express yourself and arguably, we need more of that in the world and bring the world closer," Cook, who has always emphasised that coding should be taught as early as elementary school, had told IANS in April during his India visit.

Indore's Asmi Jain, 20, has been selected among the winners of Apple's 'WWDC23 Swift Student Challenge', who created original apps using the Swift coding language.

At Medi-Caps University in Indore, she found out her friend's uncle had to undergo brain surgery. As a result, he was left with eye misalignment and facial paralysis.

Jain sprung into action, designing her winning playground to track a user's eye movements as they try to follow a ball moving around the screen.

"It was important for me to create an app playground that could positively impact the lives of people like him," said Jain.

According to her, coding lets her create things that help her friends and the community. "It gives me a sense of independence that is very empowering," she added.

According to Mohit Thukral, an alumnus of Stanford University and Director, Indraprastha Global School, technology is going to be the mathematics of the 21st century.

"Every student is going to have to know a certain minimum level of knowledge of technology, coding, and others. Technology is an enabler and introduction of skill-based courses such as design thinking, robotics, coding and AI at our school is just the beginning," he told IANS.

Nikita Tomar Mann, the principal at the school, said that it is a fallacy that coding is a skill only required by those who choose the career of a coder or software programmer.

"For the future citizens of the new world order, Coding will be a vital 'Life Skill'. Creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving are touted as some of the skills of the 21st century, and one of the best ways to master these skills is to learn coding right from early schooling years," she emphasised.

According to Parul, coding should be a part of the curriculum for students as it can equip them with logical and algorithmic thinking skills.

"They can solve problems better and also build new apps to showcase their creativity," she added.
