Surat residents' long-held desire for a dedicated weekend getaway is inching closer to reality. This Sunday, Surat MP and BJP state president C.R. Patil will officially kick off the development of Dumas Sea Phase, a transformative project poised to elevate Dumas Beach into a premier eco-tourism destination.

The first phase, focusing on a 10.32-hectare zone within the Urban Area, will see an investment of Rs 174.22 crore. This initial package promises exciting additions like multi-level parking, a children's play area, a bike rental station with dedicated cycle tracks, scenic walkways, an urban beach, and designated play areas. An arrival plaza and extensive landscaping activities will further enhance the visitor experience.

"At last, the dream of the people of Surat seems to be coming true," expressed a city official, reflecting the widespread anticipation surrounding the project. The path to development wasn't without hurdles. Land acquisition concerns involving the Forest Department stalled progress for years. However, the determined efforts of the Surat Municipal Corporation, spearheaded by Commissioner Shalini Aggarwal, finally paved the way for progress.

The Dumas Sea Phase project envisions a holistic transformation, extending beyond the Urban Area. Zone 2 will focus on public spaces and ecological restoration, while Zone 3 will delve into forest-based eco-tourism and wellness facilities. Finally, Zone 4 will address the redevelopment of Dumas Port and Jetty. The entire project is estimated to take five years, promising a phased rollout of exciting new offerings for Surat residents and tourists alike.

With the Bhoomi Pujan marking a significant milestone, Surat's beloved beach is set to embark on a remarkable journey. SURAT - An ambitious attempt to capture a unique beach experience turned into a struggle for a group of youngsters near Surat on Sunday. They found themselves stuck, quite literally, in a predicament of their own making at Dabhari beach.

Dabhari beach, along with Dumas and Suvali beaches, is a popular weekend destination near Surat, frequently bustling with both locals and tourists. Despite recurring incidents of vehicles getting trapped in the sand, the lure of the sea continues to entice risk-takers who venture close with their cars.

The latest victim of this attraction was a local youth who decided to take his car to the beach for a video shoot. The seemingly fun endeavor quickly soured when the vehicle became stuck in the sand, marking another entry to the growing list of similar beach mishaps.

After the vehicle lodged itself in the beach's muddy terrain, a desperate rescue mission was set in motion. Local youths rallied together in an attempt to free the entrapped car. Despite the concerted efforts of approximately 15 to 20 individuals, the car stubbornly refused to budge.

For these youngsters, what started as a thrilling outing ended in a sweaty, strenuous ordeal. Today's incident serves as another reminder of the risks associated with bringing vehicles too close to the beach's unpredictable terrain.

Surat: After years of promises, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is moving forward with the Dumas Sea Face Development Project, aimed at providing the city with a vibrant and sustainable recreational area. Following years of stagnation, the new municipal commissioner, Shalini Aggarwal, has initiated the long-awaited project, slated to be carried out in phases.

The government has now allocated the necessary land for the first phase of the project to the Surat Municipal Corporation, allowing the development work to gain momentum. The eco-tourism park, which is part of the project, will span across a total area of 107 hectares, encompassing 12.27 hectares from the Dumas Sea-face project's TP plan, 66.72 hectares of government land, and about 23 hectares of forest department land.

Despite initial hurdles with governmental land ownership, the first phase of development will commence on the 12.27-hectare land portion belonging to Manapa, thanks to the Municipal Commissioner's diligent coordination with the Collectorate.

The Dumas Sea-Face Development Project has ambitious plans for the coastline. Enhancements include a one and a half to two-kilometer beautification stretch, from the statue of former Prime Minister Late Morarji Desai to Chowpatty and Langar, which will feature special lighting, a fountain, and a food plaza. Zones equipped with play equipment for children are planned, along with paver blocks for maintaining cleanliness across the area, and geometrical designs to add aesthetic appeal. Furthermore, the project envisages activities ranging from a five and a half kilometer coastal path to entertainment venues and hotels.

With the development of this project, Dumas beach, which has suffered degradation due to rain and illegal activities, will be transformed into an attractive resort. An eco-tourism park complete with entertainment parks, hotels, restaurants, water sports facilities, and other recreational activities is envisioned for the site. A 5.5 km long coastal road will also be constructed along the beach, enhancing connectivity and accessibility.
