Mumbai, November 27: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has become the first actor to be conferred with the RK Laxman Award for Excellence. Recognized as one of the biggest superstars in India, Khan is celebrated for his powerful acting which has resulted in numerous cult films. His consistent contributions to the world of entertainment have been credited with giving a new direction to the industry.

In honor of his outstanding success and work, the actor was presented with this inaugural award which is dedicated to the renowned cartoonist RK Laxman and was instituted by his family. Khan received the special honor from actor Boman Irani. As per agency report, the organizers shared glimpses of the grand award night, describing the event as a memorable occasion where a legend was honored in the presence of thousands of spectators.

The award ceremony was accompanied by a live concert presented by Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman. R.K. Laxman’s daughter-in-law Usha Laxman told the media that the award ceremony is a heartfelt tribute to the late cartoonist’s life and work, and presenting the first award to Aamir Khan is a symbolic way of celebrating his enduring legacy.

R.K. Laxman was one of India’s most celebrated cartoonists, best known for his iconic character “The Common Man” and his long-running cartoon strip You Said It, which appeared in The Times of India. He also illustrated the classic TV series Malgudi Days, based on stories written by his brother R.K. Narayan. Laxman passed away in 2015 at the age of 93 at Pune’s Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital.

Aamir Khan, with a career spanning over three decades, has received numerous awards and accolades, including nine Filmfare Awards and four National Awards. He was conferred the Padma Shri in 2003 and the Padma Bhushan in 2010. In 2017, the Chinese government also honoured him with a special recognition. Mumbai, May 2 — Veteran actor Aamir Khan has emphasized the urgent need to expand cinema infrastructure in India, stating that only a small fraction of the country’s population has access to movie theatres. Speaking on the second day of the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES), Khan addressed a session titled "Studios of the Future: Putting India on the World Studio Map", where he discussed the pressing challenges facing India’s entertainment industry.

As per agency report, Khan highlighted that India, despite being a nation passionate about films, has significantly fewer cinema screens compared to countries like the United States and China. He pointed out that India has only about 10,000 screens, while the US, with just one-third of India’s population, has around 40,000, and China leads with approximately 90,000 screens. Of the 10,000 screens in India, nearly half are concentrated in the southern states, limiting the distribution of Hindi films to roughly 5,000 screens.

Khan explained that this limited access greatly restricts viewership, even for blockbuster hits. He noted that only about two percent of the population ends up watching India’s biggest box office successes in cinemas, leaving a vast majority without access. Many districts across the country, including regions like Konkan, reportedly lack even a single functioning cinema.

He expressed concern that people in such areas might hear about films and view trailers online, but have no means to actually watch them on the big screen. According to him, increasing the number of theatres is the first critical step towards unlocking India’s full potential in the entertainment sector.

Khan also touched upon the shrinking window between a film’s theatrical release and its availability on OTT platforms. He argued that this short gap discourages cinema attendance, as viewers might prefer to wait a few weeks rather than visit a theatre. He recalled earlier times when films premiered on satellite television a year after theatrical release, allowing a longer theatrical run and preserving box office revenues.

The actor lauded the government for organizing an event like WAVES, which brings attention to vital issues affecting the film industry. His remarks echoed sentiments shared earlier by actor Shah Rukh Khan, who also advocated for an increase in the number of cinema screens during the inaugural session.

Mumbai, February 22: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has revealed that he is actively working towards bringing his dream project, the epic ‘Mahabharat’, to the big screen. Speaking at the ‘Ideas of India 2025’ event hosted by ABP Network, Aamir shared his ambitions not only for this grand project but also for creating more content for children.

Aamir expressed, “Making a film on ‘Mahabharat’ has been my lifelong dream. Perhaps now, I will be able to think about it seriously. Whether I will play a character in it or not, only time will tell.” He emphasized his interest in producing content focused on children, highlighting the lack of such content in India. He added, “We generally dub foreign content for children. I want to create original stories for them.”

The ‘Dangal’ actor is leaving no stone unturned to make sure all the traditions and rituals are celebrated to the hilt, just the way the groom's family wants. The actor is overseeing the intricacies of Maharashtrian pre-wedding rituals, following authentic traditions.

As per a source Aamir decided to celebrate the shagun ki mehendi and Haldi ceremony together with the groom's family. He made sure that the women of his family wore the traditional Nauvari Sarees just as the Shikhare women did.

Aamir reached Udaipur on Friday along with his son Azad. Nupur and Ira left for Udaipur early in the morning on Friday. The couple are set to have a traditional Maharashtrian wedding ceremony on January 8. The festivities will take place from January 8 to 10.

The wedding festivities will be a family affair and will see relatives attending the functions.

The couple will then head to Mumbai and host a reception at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre on January 13. The who’s who of Bollywood including superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan are expected to attend the reception.

Nupur Shikhare proposed to Ira in 2022 and is the official fitness trainer of Ira and Aamir. The pre-wedding festivities started with a Haldi ceremony on Tuesday. In a recently surfaced video from the ceremony, the newlyweds can be seen posing for a photograph along with the families of both sides. Nupur Shikhare’s mother, Aamir Khan, Reena Dutta, Kiran Rao, Junaid Khan and Azad can also be seen posing with Ira and Nupur.

The video then shows the Bollywood superstar saying something to Kiran. He then kissed her on the cheek as they spoke. He also gave a peck to his son Azad.

Ira and Nupur exchanged wedding vows as they signed the marriage registration document in front of friends and family on Wednesday.

Mumbai, Oct 11 (IANS) Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, who is known for films like ‘Rang De Basanti’, ‘Sarfarosh’, ‘3 Idiots’ and several others, has announced the debut of his eldest child, Junaid Khan, as a producer.

The film, which is titled ‘Pritam Pyaare’, will also see the Bollywood superstar in a cameo appearance of five minutes.

The actor shared the development during a media conclave as he shared insights into fatherhood.

Junaid, who is also set to make his acting debut with another film, has worked in theatre for six years prior to entering cinema. He started his theatrical journey in August 2017 under the wings of director Quasar Thakore Padamsee with the latter's rendition of the German theatre practitioner, Bertolt Brecht's ‘Mother Courage and Her Children’. It’s a powerful satire highlighting the senselessness of war.

Talking about his son, Aamir shared: “Junaid is now entering Bollywood as a producer like my father. With a new director and a new team, I am happy with his work. I am doing a cameo in his movie for five minutes.”
