Mumbai, Oct 29 (IANS) As the two legends once again collaborate on the big screen, megastars Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan have now wrapped up the Mumbai schedule for their upcoming outing ‘Thalaivar 170’.

The movie’s production house Lyca Productions announced the film’s Mumbai shoot completion on their X handle. Sharing a picture of Thalaivar and Big B together from a behind-the-scenes picture of the movie, the studio wrote: “When Superstar and Shahenshah met on the sets of #Thalaivar 170. Reunion on screens after 33 years! #Thalaivar 170 is gonna be a double dose of legends! @rajinikanth @SrBachchan. Done with MUMBAI Schedule”.

Earlier this month, Rajinikanth shared a picture of himself with Amitabh Bachchan. Standing side by side and smiling, Rajinikanth had expressed great joy upon once again working with the Bollywood’s ‘Angry Young Man’.

Captioning the post, he wrote: "After 33 years, I am working again with my mentor, the phenomenon, Shri Amitabh Bachchan in the upcoming Lyca’s ‘Thalaivar 170’ directed by T.J Gnanavel. My heart is thumping with joy!"

In addition, Big B had also later taken to Instagram and posted a bts picture of himself on the film set holding a magnifying glass. He captioned the post: “Trying to magnify the moment. First day of work after 33 years with THE THALAIVAR, RAJINIKANTH sirrrrr (sic)”.

Amitabh Bachchan had also shared the picture of the two in black and white on his X and expressed great joy at reuniting with the Tamil megastar. Captioning the picture, he had written: “T 4709 - Back with the great THALAIVAR .. the Leader, the Head, the CHIEF .. @rajinikanth on his 170th film .. what an honour and a huge privilege .. after 33 years .. !! and you haven't changed a bit .. still the GREATEST. ‘Thalaivar 170’”

Prior to the upcoming film, Big B and Thalaivar last worked together in the Hindi film ‘Hum’, directed by Mukul Anand which was released in 1991. ‘Hum’ was a massive rage in the 1990s and a huge success, receiving great acclaim from critics, viewers, as well as a big box office.

The movie, which starred Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Govinda, Anupam Kher, Kimi Katkar, Deepa Sahi, Shilpa Shirodkar, Danny Denzongpa, and Kader Khan in pivotal roles, also lead to the Thalaivar’s 1995 classic ‘Baasha’, as it employed several unused plot points from the original script of ‘Hum’.

‘Hum’ is also very well remembered for its song ‘Jumma Chumma De De’. ‘Baasha’ is also well known for two of its classic tracks ‘Naan Autokaaran’, and ‘Style Style Thaan’.

Since the announcement of the new mystery project, immense excitement is raging across India as audiences from Mumbai to Chennai are frantic to see the two legends come together on the big-screen.

Apart from these two legends, the film will also star Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh and Dushara Vijayan. With music by Anirudh Ravichander, the film will hit theatres in 2024.

New Delhi, Aug 17 (IANS) August 16 may have been a working day, but Rajinikanth's  'Jailer' and Sunny Deol's 'Gadar 2' not only did well, but also left the Akshay Kumar-starrer 'OMG 2' and Chiranjeevi's 'Bholaa Shankar' way behind.

At the end of Day 6, 'Gadar 2' was sitting on a worldwide collection of Rs 338.50 crore (gross receipts across India, Rs 308.50 crore, which includes the 18 per cent GST component, plus Rs 30 crore overseas).

Interestingly, Tara Singh's one-man war against Pakistan seems to have touched a chord in Chennai, for the southern metropolis saw a 73.75 per cent occupancy in theatres for 'Gadar 2'. Pakistan-bashing, clearly, works as much in the south as it does in the north, that too on a working Wednesday.

'Jailer', being a Tamil film, doesn't have as big a footprint as 'Gadar 2', yet with Thalaiva Rajinikanth headlining it, by its seventh day, it had amassed Rs 420 crore (all-India gross receipts, Rs 264.70 crore, plus Rs 155.30 crore overseas).

Of course, the film's domestic collections have come mainly from the four southern states, led by Tamil Nadu (Rs 121.60 crore), followed by Andhra Pradesh / Telangana (Rs 53.50 crore), Karnataka (Rs 44.40 crore) and Kerala (Rs 35.90 crore).

But Rajini's global fan following has ensured an overseas collection more than five times higher than that of 'Gadar 2', enabling it to be India's No. 1 movie today.

'OMG 2', in contrast, has just crossed the Rs 100-crore mark (Rs 108.80 crore, including all-India gross receipts of Rs 93.80 and an overseas collection of Rs 15 crore), even as 'Bholaa Shankar' is languishing at Rs 39 crore (all-India gross receipts, Rs 33.40 crore, plus Rs 5.60 crore earned overseas).

'Jailer' was massively hyped across South India, with offices in Tamil Nadu even giving a day off to their employees to watch the film on August 10 upon its release. Rajinikanth's persona in the movie is that of an old jailer hunting down a notorious gang lord and mercilessly eliminating his gang members.

Regarding the magic of 'Jailer' at the box office, trade expert Ramesh Bala said: "Rajinikanth is a Superstar. The 'Superstar' tag alone is enough to garner it all the attention it needs. And then, he also benefits from worldwide recognition."

Continuing his analysis, Bala said: "Apart from Rajinikanth, the movie has good content, it is different, and has other famous faces from the South, notably Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and Ramya Krishnan. But when you mention Rajinikanth, words such as swag, cool, attitude come to mind, and his 50-year-plus career and humble nature also help."

Bala expects the lifetime collection of 'Jailer' to touch Rs 600 crore, which means it will surpass last year's 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' and 'Vikram', and stand just behind Rajini's '2.0'.

'Gadar 2' is not expected to cross Rs 450-500 crore, but its makers, having produced the film reportedly for Rs 75 crore, are already laughing all the way to the bank.

Mumbai, July 18 (IANS) Megastar Rajinikanth, who is gearing up for his upcoming film 'Jailer', is currently holidaying in Maldives. A few days back, the 'Shivaji: The Boss' actor flew to the tropical island to relax for a few days after completing his work commitments.

Now, a photo of the actor from a beach in the Maldives has gone viral on social media. The fans are praising Rajinikanth for his simple look in the picture as one can see him wearing a red-coloured t-shirt paired with black shorts rounded up with a fanny bag around his waist.

In the picture, he can be seen barefoot enjoying the breeze at the turquoise beach.

A few days back, trade expert Ramesh Bala had shared the pictures of the megastar all set to embark on the holiday. He had captioned the pictures, "Superstar @rajinikanth on his way from Chennai to Maldives."

Rajinikanth wrapped up the shoot of his upcoming films 'Jailer' and 'Lal Salaam'.

'Lal Salaam' is directed by Rajinikanth's daughter Aishwarya, and the actor will be seen in the film in a cameo appearance as Moideen Bhai, the look of which has already been unveiled and has created a massive buzz.

Last week, Aishwarya took to Instagram to share the news, as she posted a picture from the film's set.

The photos featured Rajinikanth and Aishwarya along with cast members Vishnu Vishal and Jeevitha.

Meanwhile, 'Jailer' is gearing up for a grand release in theatres on August 10 worldwide.

Vijayawada, April 28 (IANS) Tamil superstar Rajinikanth made some interesting remarks about politics while addressing the centenary celebrations of Telugu icon Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao or NTR.

He said, looking at the huge crowd, he wants to speak about politics but his experience is stopping him from doing so.

Rajinikanth, who dropped his plans to enter politics in 2021 citing his frail health, shared his thoughts in Telugu.

The superstar recalled how he was inspired by NTR, showered praise on his son and leading Tollywood actor Balakrishna and appreciated the vision of former chief minister and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu.

The actor said NTR's first film that he watched was 'Patala Bhairavi' and this left an imprint on his mind.

He said when he was working as a supporting actor and villain, a director approached him and wanted to know if he would act in a film as a hero.

"At that time I was not interested in working as a hero. The director told me to hear the script at least once and revealed that the title of the movie is Bhairavi. The moment I heard the name of the movie, I accepted it," said Rajinikanth.

The Tamil superstar said, when NTR came to Chennai to celebrate the success of 'Lava Kusa', he watched NTR from a distance. Rajinikanth was then 13.

He recalled that he was greatly impressed by the role of Duryodhana played by NTR in 'Srikrishna Pandaviyam'.

"When I was working as a bus conductor, I played the role of Duryodhana, played by NTR, at a function and, because of the appreciation I received, I started taking an interest in acting," he said.

Rajinikanth spoke fondly about NTR's son Nandamuri Balakrishna a.k.a. Balayya. He said Balayya can do what neither he nor Amitabh Bachchan can do.

"My friend (Balayya) kills with his single look. With a single eye blink, a vehicle can blast and go up to 30-feet-high. It cannot be done by Rajinikanth, Amitabh, Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan. The public won't accept it if we do that kind of stuff."

Rajinikanth said that the audience accepts whatever Balayya does on screen because when they look at him, they see his father NTR in him.

The actor was all praise for N. Chandrababu Naidu for his vision and said that the whole world knows about it.

He pointed out that Naidu developed Hyderabad into an IT hub. He said if lakhs of people are employed today in the IT sector, it was because of Naidu.
