The award will be decided jointly by a panel comprising both adult and child judges.

As per agency report, nominations for the inaugural edition will open in 2026, and the prize will be presented annually from 2027 onwards. The winner will receive a cash award of £50,000 (approximately Rs. 59 lakh).

The foundation stated that the prize will honor the best work of contemporary fiction written in or translated into English for readers aged eight to twelve, provided it is published in the United Kingdom and/or Ireland. The initiative marks the first major expansion of the Booker Prize family in two decades.

Booker Prize Foundation Chief Executive Gaby Wood described the new award as the organization’s most ambitious project in 20 years, expressing hope that its influence will endure for generations. She emphasized that the initiative represents more than a literary accolade, calling it “a movement that unites children, parents, teachers, and storytellers around the world.”

In collaboration with the AKO Foundation, at least 30,000 copies of shortlisted and winning titles will be distributed free of charge to ensure that more children have access to some of the world’s finest stories.

British author Penelope Lively is scheduled to deliver the keynote address on the newly introduced children’s award at this year’s Booker Prize ceremony on November 10 in London. Indian-origin author Kiran Desai has also been shortlisted for her latest novel “The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny.” Desai had previously won the Booker Prize in 2006 for her acclaimed novel “The Inheritance of Loss.”

Cybercrime is not just a technical threat, it’s a human vulnerability: ADCP Rajesh Dandotiya on his new book Cyber Rakshak

Launched by Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh at the Commissioner’s Office in Indore, Cyber Rakshak is not just a guidebook — it is a call to awareness, resilience, and digital mindfulness. The book was born from a growing realization that while law enforcement agencies continue to adapt to the evolving landscape of cybercrime, the general public remains dangerously unaware, vulnerable, and unprepared.

“I've seen it all — retired officers losing life savings to fake investment schemes, school students blackmailed over manipulated photos, educated professionals duped by voice-cloned relatives,” Dandotiya shares. “What struck me most was not just the technical trickery, but how little people know about the very devices they use every day.”

Crafted in clear, simple language and based on real-life case studies, Cyber Rakshak sheds light on over 35 forms of digital fraud, including social media hacking, loan app traps, digital arrests, sextortion, and OTP-based scams. But more than enumeration, the book offers tools — mental, emotional, and procedural — to help citizens recognize red flags, respond correctly, and most importantly, act without panic.

For Dandotiya, who has served the Madhya Pradesh Police for over two decades and has conducted more than 600 cyber-awareness workshops, writing this book was an extension of his duty. "The idea was to go beyond FIRs and investigations — to reach households, schools, and senior citizen groups with preventive knowledge."

The book is published by Mahagatha Publications, a house known for socially responsible literature. Devrishi, the founder of Mahagatha, stated that Cyber Rakshak aligns perfectly with their mission to publish works that empower, inform, and protect society.

“I am a police officer, yes,” Dandotiya concludes, “but I am also a father, a neighbour, a citizen. If this book can help even one person avoid emotional or financial trauma, I will consider it my most meaningful contribution beyond uniform.”

Cyber Rakshak is now available on Amazon and Flipkart, and has already been lauded by law enforcement officials as a practical tool for India’s growing digital generation. But for its author, the real reward will come when the next cyber fraud call is met not with fear, but with foresight.

The translated version, titled Heart Lamp, was recognized at a ceremony held on Tuesday night at London’s Tate Modern gallery.

As per agency report, Heart Lamp becomes the first work in Kannada to receive the £50,000 award, which is shared equally between the original author and the translator. Mushtaq and her translator, Deepa Bhasthi, were present together to receive the honor. Mushtaq described the win as a victory for diversity and a powerful moment for regional literature.

The collection, spanning more than 30 years of Mushtaq’s literary career from 1990 to 2023, comprises 12 poignant stories that explore the resilience, resistance, and wit of women living within patriarchal South Indian communities. The stories draw inspiration from a rich oral storytelling tradition and vividly depict personal and societal tensions with sharp humor, conversational style, and emotional depth.

Mushtaq emphasized that the book was born from the belief that no story is too small, and that every thread in the fabric of human experience carries the weight of the whole narrative. She added that in a world often bent on division, literature remains one of the few sacred spaces where individuals can truly connect, even if just for a few pages.

Translator Deepa Bhasthi expressed pride in her language and called the win a beautiful moment for Kannada literature. The jury chair, Max Porter, praised Heart Lamp as a groundbreaking piece that introduces something entirely fresh to English readers. He described the translation as revolutionary, weaving new textures into the plurality of the English language, while also challenging and expanding the very idea of translation.

Heart Lamp is also the first short story collection ever to win the International Booker Prize. Selected from a shortlist of six global titles, the book’s candid portrayal of family dynamics and community conflict stood out for its bold and evocative storytelling. The award reaffirms the global resonance of Mushtaq’s voice and shines a spotlight on Kannada literature on the world stage.

New Delhi, April 18 – Former Chief Justice of India T S Thakur has declined to attend the launch of former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief A S Dulat’s new book, citing the political controversy triggered by certain excerpts related to National Conference president Farooq Abdullah. The book, titled The Chief Minister and the Spy, was scheduled to be released on Friday at a ceremony where Justice (Retd.) Thakur was expected to officiate the launch.

As per agency report, Justice Thakur’s decision comes a day after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated in Jammu that his father, Farooq Abdullah, would not be attending the launch. Farooq Abdullah had earlier publicly rejected Dulat’s claim that he had “personally supported” the abrogation of Article 370, the constitutional provision that had granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Calling the claim baseless, Abdullah accused Dulat of seeking "cheap publicity" to promote his upcoming book.

The central government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, had abrogated Article 370 on August 5, 2019, and bifurcated the former state into two union territories. Dulat’s assertion that Abdullah privately backed this move has stirred political debate and media attention.

In a written response to Dulat's invitation, Justice Thakur expressed his discomfort with the unfolding controversy. He acknowledged having initially agreed to participate in the launch but stated that the media coverage surrounding the book's content, particularly references to Abdullah’s alleged remarks, had caused a political storm. Justice Thakur emphasized his longstanding personal rapport with the Abdullah family and clarified that he did not wish to be associated with promoting a book that the central figure in question had publicly disavowed.

Justice Thakur further noted that Farooq Abdullah was also supposed to participate in a discussion about the book alongside journalist Vir Sanghvi but is now unlikely to attend. He expressed regret for the inconvenience his withdrawal might cause to Dulat and the book’s publishers on the eve of the launch but hoped that his position would be understood in light of the sensitive circumstances.

A S Dulat, a former intelligence chief, has authored several books on Kashmir and national security, and his latest work had been anticipated for its candid insights into political dynamics. However, the backlash from Farooq Abdullah and the resulting political furore have cast a shadow over its release event.

Titled The Diary of a Cricketer’s Wife: A Very Unusual Memoir, the book is co-authored by Pooja Pujara and Namita Kala and is set to be released on April 29, as per agency report.

Published by HarperCollins India, the memoir provides an intimate portrait of Cheteshwar Pujara — a man known for his resilience, quiet demeanor, and unshakeable faith. Pooja describes him as spiritual but never pretentious, reserved yet approachable, and someone who enjoys sharing silly jokes. The book captures the remarkable journey of Pujara from the narrow lanes of Rajkot to the world stage of international cricket, a journey that Pooja has closely witnessed since their marriage in 2013.

Before marrying Cheteshwar, Pooja had no interest in cricket. Over time, however, she not only learned the intricacies of the game but also took on responsibilities such as planning and preparing nutrition-rich meals for her vegetarian husband. The memoir dives into the sacrifices made by Pujara’s parents and the challenges the couple faced during his career's ups and downs.

The book has received praise from some of Indian cricket's biggest legends. Anil Kumble and VVS Laxman have lauded it for its honesty and insight, while Rahul Dravid has described it as essential reading for anyone looking to understand the mind of one of India’s most unique batsmen. Dravid remarked that the book provides a rare opportunity to glimpse into the mental framework of a cricketer known for his hard work, composure, and dedication.

Through this memoir, readers are offered not just a backstage pass to the world of elite cricket, but also an emotionally resonant account of love, support, and the realities of life lived under the spotlight.

After the success of the book launch in Dubai, Rajan Lall launched the book in Mumbai, India

‘I DID IT MY WAY: MY LIFE OF LOVE, BETRAYAL, REGRET AND WISDOM’ is a literary masterpiece that chronicles the extraordinary life of Rajan Lall, an enigmatic businessman, former Bollywood film producer, and a man whose journey is as riveting as a grand cinematic spectacle.

Rajan Lall’s life unfolds like an evocative Bollywood epic—filled with grandeur, ambition, heartbreak, and victory. Born in Karachi during the tumultuous Partition of India in 1947, his family sought refuge in Mumbai, where they rose from the ashes of displacement to reclaim their stature in society. With a unique heritage as a “Pun-Jew” (of Punjabi-Jewish descent), Rajan’s early years were marked by a blend of cultural richness and business acumen.

Growing up in the heart of Mumbai, he was exposed to the glittering world of Bollywood from an early age, attending the first-ever Filmfare Awards at Shanmukhananda Hall, courtesy of his uncle JC Jain, the visionary General Manager of The Times of India and the pioneer behind the Filmfare Awards.

However, life had its script in store. A fateful betrayal by his first business mentor led Rajan to embark on an entrepreneurial journey, establishing ITL, a pioneering enterprise in collar interlining for the textile industry.

His relentless drive and strategic prowess enabled him to build an empire spanning Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, and Tirupur. But Rajan’s hunger for success extended beyond business—his fascination with cinema led him to venture into film production, where he made an indelible mark by dubbing acclaimed South Indian and Hollywood films into Hindi, including Appu Raja, Roja, Dalapathi, Schindler’s List, and True Lies—all of which became commercial triumphs.

At the peak of his career in 2000, Rajan made a bold decision—he walked away from it all, leaving behind the glitz and glamour of Bollywood to embark on a new journey in Dubai at the age of 53. Armed with resilience and an indomitable spirit, he founded GTA Plastics, an enterprise now flourishing in Jebel Ali, Dubai, with branches across five countries.

I DID IT MY WAY is far from a conventional biography. It is an intimate, brutally honest reflection of a man who has loved deeply, suffered heartbreak, and navigated the complex labyrinth of human relationships. With rare, never-before-seen photographs of Bollywood luminaries and heartfelt testimonials, the book unveils his journey with raw sincerity—acknowledging his missteps, regrets, and the price of ambition.

A confessed romantic and a man of many relationships, Rajan candidly shares his experiences—of love that transcended time, betrayals that shattered trust, and friendships that stood resilient through decades. It is a story that resonates with every reader, as it delves into the quintessential struggles of life—between materialism and meaning, loyalty and deceit, passion and pragmatism.

Yet, amidst the turbulence, Rajan’s unwavering determination and ability to rise from the depths of despair set him apart. His story is a testament to resilience, reminding readers that no failure is final and no loss is absolute.

Unlike a self-indulgent memoir drenched in self-glorification, I DID IT MY WAY is a mirror reflecting the recklessness of youth, the haste of impulsive decisions, and the consequences they leave in their wake. From navigating the cutthroat world of business to rubbing shoulders with Bollywood’s elite—from extravagant soirées to betrayals that left deep scars—this book is an unvarnished confession of a man who dared to live life on his terms.

His journey is interwoven with gripping anecdotes—of safeguarding Bollywood’s best-kept secrets, standing by a friend’s widow in her fight for justice, and lending unwavering support to a senior actor during his son’s legal turmoil. Rajan Lall has been a silent force behind some of Bollywood’s most compelling untold stories, and now, he shares them with the world.

Printed and Published in the UAE, the book is distributed in India by Embassy Books, Mumbai. This compelling biography, penned by esteemed writer Manju Ramanan, is an unfiltered account of resilience, reinvention, and redemption. Crafted with intricate detail and designed by Danish Rizvi, this literary gem is published by Gulf Book Services in the UAE and UK, and printed by MASAR Printing and Publishing in Dubai—an exquisite work of storytelling that is both conceived and brought to life in the heart of the UAE.

_”This book is not just my story—it is a testament to the choices we make, the love we cherish, the betrayals we endure, and the wisdom we gain along the way. I have lived a life of passion, ambition, and reinvention, and I DID IT MY WAY is an unfiltered reflection of it all. If my journey resonates with even one reader, inspiring them to embrace life with courage and honesty, then I consider this book a success”_ says Rajan Lall

Manju Ramanan, the author of the book adds _”Writing I DID IT MY WAY was an immersive journey of 4 years and sieving through photos from 1924-2024. It is the brutally honest account of a man who has lived with unapologetic passion, resilience, and an unyielding spirit. Rajan Lall’s story is more than a memoir—it is a raw, honest reflection on love, ambition, betrayal, and redemption. Through this book, I hope readers find not just an extraordinary life story but also lessons in courage, reinvention, and the pursuit of one’s truth”_

“Rajan is a dependable friend”says Bollywood legend Jeetendra , reflecting on their bond. “I first shot at his plush Mumbai office without even knowing him. Later, when we finally met, we hit it off instantly. Despite his busy schedule in Dubai, Rajan always makes time for his friends. My wife’s

sister lives in Dubai and she is a big fan of cricketer Kapil Dev. At his party, Rajan had Kapil Dev over and I took her to meet him and she was so thrilled. He is a wonderful host, deeply connected with Bollywood legends like Sunil Dutt, Rajesh Khanna, and Shatrughan Sinha. We recently caught up over coffee in Dubai and had a great time. He even organized a musical evening for me- his love for Indian music is unmatched. Rajan’s warmth extends beyond friendships; he stays in touch with families of dear ones who have passed, showing his deep rooted loyalty and care. His infectious happiness and strong spirit make him truly one of a kind”

Recalling their decades-long friendship, Prem Chopra adds “Rajan is a romantic. I’ve known Rajan since his youth, as well as his esteemed family, including his uncle JC Jain of The Times of India. He was a strikingly handsome young man—I always thought he’d be in front of the camera, but he chose to produce films instead. Through sheer talent and determination, he built a successful life in Dubai. A devout believer in Shirdi Sai Baba, Rajan has always lived life on his own terms. He is a wonderful host, a genuine friend, and someone who finds joy in simplicity. Whenever I visit Dubai, he welcomes me warmly, always joking that he’s just a ‘supervisor’ while his son runs the business. Ageing gracefully, without drinking or smoking, Rajan remains full of life. I wish him and this book immense success!”

Ranjeet, an actor and a very dear friend to Raja Lall says “Life is colourful when you have Rajan in it. We’ve shared countless unforgettable evenings—parties, laughter, and memories tied to our mutual bond with Sunil Dutt Saab. Rajan has faced immense emotional highs and lows, enduring relationships that didn’t work out. People judge easily, but few see the deep void he tried to fill. Despite the labels, I know his true self—a man with a vulnerable heart, unafraid to feel and express. When I fell seriously ill in Dubai, Rajan, fresh out of the ICU himself, took care of me with immense sincerity. That’s who he is—magnanimous, generous, and deeply emotional. I always pray for his happiness and good health”

“Yaaron ka yaar,” says legendary musician Anup Jalota about his decades-long friendship with Rajan Lall. “I’ve known Rajan since 1975, and our bond has only grown stronger over the years. He is one of those rare people blessed with immense love from everyone around him. Music is his soul, and his mehfils have hosted legends like Sunil Dutt Saab, Vinod Mehra, Gulzar, and Jagjit Singh. I still remember taking Talat Aziz to one of his gatherings, where he gave his first public performance. Rajan has always preferred my ghazals over bhajans—his favorites being ‘Chand Angdaiyan’ and ‘Jabse Gaye Hain,’ which I sang for his 60th birthday in Dubai. No matter where life takes us, music and friendship always bring us back together. He is truly a doston ka dost, yaaron ka yaar!”

Mahesh Bhatt, an eminent director and Rajan Lall’s friend says “For artists ridden with self-doubt, Rajan is a breath of fresh air and encouragement. We first met at Green Acres, where we lived in the same building during my struggling days. As a young filmmaker battling self-doubt, Rajan became a source of strength. When I was making Arth—a film born from my own scars—he was there, offering unwavering support. It was made on a shoestring budget, with my own clothes for Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Smita Patil’s raw authenticity. At a time when I was unemployed and couldn’t afford a drink, Rajan would generously open his doors and share his Black Label whisky, never judging, always listening. Even when I needed money for Saaransh, he helped without hesitation. Success often makes people forget those who lifted them up, but Rajan is one of those rare souls whose kindness leaves a lasting impact. His artistic sensibility and generosity make him a true friend. I am thrilled that he is sharing his journey through this book and wish him all the success—because the history of a nation is written through the lives of its people”

Acclaimed actor and dear friend Anupam Kher, recalls their early bond and shared “In 1982, during my struggling days, I met Rajan at Green Acres, where he lived on the ground floor of Mahesh Bhatt’s building. Every morning, before meeting Bhatt Saab, I’d stop by Rajan’s home, where he’d serve me fresh parathas, eggs, and tea. He was a silent support during one of the most defining moments of my career. I had bagged the lead role in Saaransh, but Mahesh Bhatt was under pressure to replace me with the legendary Sanjeev Kumar, who had agreed to do the film for free. Furious and heartbroken, I stormed into Bhatt Saab’s house, threatened to leave Mumbai, and even cursed him! After my outburst, I went straight to Rajan, poured my heart out, and wept. He listened patiently, spoke to Bhatt Saab, and supported his risky decision to stick with me. That decision changed my life—Saaransh became a milestone in cinema and launched my career. Decades later, when I met Rajan in Dubai after 39 years, we picked up right where we left off. He welcomed me in his Rolls Royce, I showed him my presidential suite at the Taj, and we laughed about how far we had come. Rajan is not just a generous friend—he is part of my journey, my success, and my story. I wish him all the best for this book, which is bound to be as fascinating as his life”

Shashi Ranjan, film producer and founder of the ITA Awards, recalling their decades-long bond, shares “I met Rajan in 1986 at Shatrughan Sinha’s home, and we instantly connected over our love for cinema, luxury, and good times. His Versova home was stunning, complete with a private theatre—watching films on laser discs felt like peak luxury in the ’90s. When he moved to Dubai, I, Anu, and Neena Gupta stayed with him as he transitioned, and it was there that the idea for the ITA Awards was born. Rajan and I have shared everything—from wild shopping sprees in Dubai that left Gulshan Grover speechless to playfully trying to outdo each other in cars, watches, and homes. He is an incredible host, a loyal friend, and someone who makes you feel at home no matter where you are. We joke that in old age, we’ll have each other for company—and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Rajan’s warmth, style, and generosity make him truly one of a kind”

“Rajan has been my father’s closest friend” says Priya Dutt, daughter of the late Sunil Dutt and politician “I met Rajan when I was around 19-20, and he always saw my father as a mentor and father figure. He would bring him thoughtful gifts—pens and watches—that my dad cherished. Their bond was filled with laughter, deep conversations, and shared moments over drinks. My father collected bottle corks, and I can still picture them sitting together, talking about life and bursting into laughter. When Rajan moved to Dubai, my father was incredibly proud of him. Even after Dad’s passing, Rajan has remained a part of our family, always warm and welcoming. He has hosted us in Dubai with his signature grandeur—taking us on his yacht, treating us to amazing meals, and making us feel at home. Most people move on, but Rajan keeps my father’s memory alive. His home still has a picture of my dad, and he speaks about him as if he’s still here. That’s the kind of loyalty and love Rajan carries—a true testament to the bond they shared”

The book, now available on Amazon (India, UK, US), Flipkart, and Kobo in both paperback and Kindle formats, has already captured the imagination of readers with its intricate plot, memorable characters, and gripping suspense.

The official launch event was held in Bandra, Mumbai, on November 5, 2024, and saw a remarkable turnout, including comedian Vipul Goyal, who shared humorous anecdotes about his friendship with the author from their time at IIT Bombay, and Karuna Badwal, head of Red Chillies Production. The launch event was an evening of laughter, insight, and connection, reflecting the author’s unique blend of wit and narrative skill.

He Spoke After Ten Years – A Riveting Thriller

Set in Mumbai during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, He Spoke After Ten Years opens with the brutal murder of an unremarkable man, found bludgeoned to death with a mysterious RD Burman CD near the body. The case initially appears to be a cold, unsolved mystery but takes an unexpected turn when, two years later, the pressure to solve it mounts.

Seasoned detective Rachit Kamble, facing external pressure from all sides, is forced to revisit the case. Enter Neel Mantri, a gifted child prodigy turned assistant detective, whose troubled past and sharp intellect make him a formidable force. As Neel unravels the details of the crime, he discovers a web of lies, hidden truths, and connections that lead him to question the very nature of justice.

With an explosive blend of mystery, psychological depth, and suspense, He Spoke After Ten Years keeps readers on the edge of their seats. The novel’s central question—whether the crime was an act of murder or an act of justice—forms the core of Neel’s complex journey.

About Apurva Mathur

Apurva Mathur is a debut author and educator with over 20 years of experience teaching physics. After mentoring thousands of students, he turned to writing, combining his passion for storytelling with his love for crime fiction. He Spoke After Ten Years is his first novel, introducing readers to the young prodigy detective Neel Mantri. Apurva’s writing blends suspense, psychological depth, and moral questions, reflecting his belief in the power of stories to explore complex human emotions.

Apurva Mathur – From Educator to Novelist

Apurva Mathur’s transition from educator to novelist is an inspiring tale of passion and persistence. Growing up in Rajasthan in the late 80s and 90s, Apurva’s childhood was marked by a love for books, particularly murder mysteries. Influenced by classics like The Hardy Boys, Sherlock Holmes, and later Scandinavian crime thrillers by authors such as Jo Nesbø and Henning Mankell, Apurva developed an early fascination with the intricacies of crime fiction.

A bright student, Apurva followed the academic path, earning a degree from IIT Bombay, where he also discovered his love for teaching. Over the course of his 20-year career as a physics educator, he mentored over 15,000 students, but his passion for storytelling never faded. Throughout his career, books remained a constant companion.

It was during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Apurva found himself with more time on his hands, that the idea of writing his first novel took shape. Drawing inspiration from his childhood love for mysteries and his experiences as a teacher, he began crafting He Spoke After Ten Years. After nearly four and a half years of writing, rewriting, and overcoming challenges, the novel was completed.

The Prodigy Detective – Neel Mantri

A standout element of He Spoke After Ten Years is the character of Neel Mantri, a young, gifted detective prodigy. Neel is a complex character—a brilliant mind with a tragic past, whose intellectual abilities both empower and isolate him. He is a character torn between his moral compass and the world’s darker realities. Apurva created Neel as a reflection of his own fascination with psychology and complex personalities.

In the novel, Neel’s ability to piece together clues and navigate the world of crime mirrors Apurva’s own problem-solving skills, honed through years of teaching physics. But as Neel delves deeper into the case, he is forced to confront his own emotional scars, making his journey not only one of intellectual discovery but also personal growth.

Apurva describes Neel as “the young, narcissistic genius sleuth with no control over life except his moral compass.” His character evolves through the novel, and Apurva hints that readers can expect further development in future books in the series.

Early Reception and Praise

He Spoke After Ten Years has been met with positive reviews from readers and critics alike. Its blend of suspense, character development, and intricate plotting has been praised.

One book reviewer remarked, “The book is a thrilling ride from start to finish. Apurva Mathur’s ability to craft a layered narrative that keeps you guessing is impressive. Neel Mantri is a character you can’t forget, and the story’s twists will keep you hooked until the final page.”

The book’s strong character development and emotional depth have also been highlighted. The balance between mystery and the personal journey of Neel has resonated deeply with readers.

A Promising Future

For Apurva Mathur, writing is more than just a creative outlet—it’s the culmination of years of storytelling. His experience in teaching has informed his writing, particularly in his approach to character development and the ability to engage an audience.

“The essence of storytelling lies in the human experience,” Apurva explains. “Physics taught me to look for patterns and explanations in complex systems. Writing, too, is about finding patterns—whether in a crime or in a person’s behavior. It’s the thrill of discovery that keeps me going.”

Apurva’s debut marks the start of an exciting new chapter in his life. Plans for the next book in the Neel Mantri series are already underway. The character of Neel promises to evolve as more cases and mysteries come his way, with a deeper exploration of his psyche.

Availability

He Spoke After Ten Years is now available for purchase in paperback and Kindle formats on Amazon (India, UK, and US), Flipkart, and Kobo.
