Mumbai, Feb 5 (IANS) The makers of Sara Ali Khan, Vijay Varma, Karisma Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Dimple Kapadia and Sanjay Kapoor-starrer ‘Murder Mubarak’ on Monday announced that the movie will stream on the OTT from March 15.

Bringing a fresh twist to the mystery genre with a blend of suspense, comedy, and romance, ‘Murder Mubarak’ is directed by Homi Adajania and produced by Maddock Films.

The film presents a remarkable book-to-screen adaptation of Anuja Chauhan’s 'Club You To Death'.

As secrets and lies come to the surface, the story turns the spotlight on an array of suspects, portrayed by an exceptional cast.

Leading the charge is actor Pankaj Tripathi, playing a non-traditional cop. He steps into their world as an outsider, only to find there is so much more than what meets the eye.

The makers have unveiled a small video giving a sneak peek into the mysterious world of the movie.

In the video, we can hear Pankaj saying: “Someone who kills what do they look like? A princess from South Delhi? (referring to Sara’s character). Or a deadly lover from Chandni Chowk? (Vijay’s role). A dream girl of old films? (Karisma Kapoor). Or an eccentric, drunk artist? (Dimple Kapadia).”

Talking about the film, director Homi said: “Murder Mubarak is a cinematic concoction of actors that are loved across genres and generations and believe me each one of them has done such a fab job in bringing these eccentric characters to life.”

“This film has that binge-worthy magic which lends itself to a compulsive watch. It’s a colorful murder mystery that will make you want to rewind and watch it over again when you wonder how you missed all the clues in this breadcrumb-laden whodunnit,” he added.

‘Murder Mubarak’ will premiere on March 15 on Netflix.

Mumbai, Jan 29 (IANS) The upcoming true-crime documentary series titled ‘The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth’, will unravel the infamous case of Indrani Mukerjea about allegedly murdering her 25-year old daughter Sheena Bora.

Indrani, who was an accomplished media executive and socialite, was married to media baron Peter Mukerjea. In 2015, she was arrested for murdering Sheena Bora. The case sent shockwaves across the nation.

The documentary features Indrani Mukerjea, her children - Vidhie Mukherjea and Mikhail Bora, veteran journalists, and lawyers spotlighting dysfunctional family dynamics and complex motivations. It is helmed by Shaana Levy and Uraaz Bahl, and also reveals for the first-time ever unsettling call recordings between Indrani, Peter, and Rahul Mukerjea and unseen images of the family.

It explores sensational family secrets, complicated relationships, buried connections and the possibility of millions of dollars at stake.

After her arrest, Indrani was sent to judicial custody at a women's-only prison in Byculla Jail, Mumbai. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the case and filed charges against Indrani under the Indian Penal Code Sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), 34 (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating and forgery), 364 (kidnapping) 120-B (conspiracy).

The series is slated to drop on Netflix on February 23.

Mumbai, Jan 7 (IANS) Actor Manoj Bajpayee, who is awaiting the release of his upcoming streaming series 'Killer Soup', embraced an unconventional role amid the intense shooting schedules -- that of a hidden chef for the 'Killer Soup' team.

The actor shared that he used to cook and serve a new dish every week to the crew while shooting in Kerala.

Talking about the same, Manoj shared: "I started cooking about five years ago, and I very much enjoy it. I used to watch YouTube videos and learn new recipes. The unit, I believe, enjoyed it a lot because when we were shooting in Munnar and Kerala, I used to cook and serve a new dish every week. I cooked quite a lot in those three months."

The actor further mentioned, "It was a refreshing break from the intensity of our scenes, and I found joy in experimenting with different flavours and dishes. It became a sort of tradition for us, a way to bond over meals and create a relaxed atmosphere on set."

Co-star Konkona Sensharma chimed in saying, “Manoj is quite the chef, his Bihari mutton is simply delicious. Beyond the scenes and scripts, our shoot experience transformed into shared moments around food. It felt like one of those secret ingredients that added fun and togetherness to the ‘Killer Soup’ set.”

‘Killer Soup’ will drop on Netflix on January 11.

Mumbai, Jan 3 (IANS) The trailer of the upcoming streaming series ‘Killer Soup’ was unveiled on Wednesday, and by the looks of it, the series is a promising blend of genres. Set in the fictitious town of Mainjur, it follows Swathi Shetty, an aspiring chef who wants the world to enjoy her paya soup. An accident sets off a series of mishaps and hasty cover-ups that land her and her lover in hot soup.

‘Killer Soup’ stars Manoj Bajpayee in dual roles, Konkona Sen Sharma, Nasser, Sayaji Shinde, Lal, Anbuthasan, Anula Navlekar and Kani Kusruti.

The trailer starts off with Manoj Bajpayee’s character being wounded and singing ‘Tu Hi Re’ as the events in the trailer unravel. Swathi, played by Konkona, hatches a plan to murder and replace her husband with her lover who looks exactly the same. What follows is a cocktail of comedy, thrill and high-voltage drama.

Talking about the series, Manoj Bajpayee shared: “For the first time in my career, I will be playing a double role, both starkly different from each other. Mumbai, Nov 25 (IANS) Shiv Rawail, who has marked his directorial debut with 'The Railway Men', has opened up about one of the most captivating aspects of the series that lies in its convincing and authentic sets, where the story unfolds.

The four-part mini-series helmed by Shiv boasts of incredible acting performances by the brilliant ensemble, and the show’s breath-taking scale that the makers have managed to achieve. The ensemble cast, featuring R Madhavan, Kay Kay, Babil, and Divyenndu, is a powerhouse of talent that embodies the characters in all authenticity.

“It’s such a significant story to share so every element of the set was mapped thoroughly. For the story to connect with the audiences, it was imperative for us to make the audiences believe that it is the same Bhopal railway station from 1984,” Shiv said.

He said that the entire station setup including trains were designed and created in a large space at Mumbai University.

He said that it took us around 70 days to finish constructing the entire set with minute detailing that included movie posters from the 80s, the waiting room and other authentic railway elements that became an integral part of the narrative.

He said that the set looked so real and authentic that the residents nearby felt a new station was coming up.

“Along with the junction, we also built three massive and functional passenger trains for the shoot of this series,” he added.

Mumbai, Sep 20 (IANS) Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowarikar, who is the part of diverse star cast of upcoming series ‘Kaala Paani’, which is set to release on October 18, called it an "intriguing project." 

Beyond the sparkling blue waters and glistening golden sands of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, an enthralling story of survival is set to unfold. 

The makers announced the release date of ‘Kaala Paani’ on Wednesday.

Helmed by Posham Pa Pictures, the series is directed by Sameer Saxena and Amit Golani and is written by Biswapati Sarkar, Amit Golani, Sandeep Saket and Nimisha Misra. 

Starring Mona Singh, Ashutosh Gowariker and Amey Wagh, ‘Kaala Paani’ will have audiences embark on a journey to Andaman Nicobar Islands. 

But everything is not all smooth sailing on this island - chaos ensues as social order crumbles, leaving its inhabitants trapped and isolated from the outside world. 

Talking about his association with the series, Ashutosh said: "Kaala Paani is a world of its own and I’m really excited to be a part of an intriguing Netflix project like this. Sameer, Amit and Biswapati have created a series with a genre that will breathe new life into our audience's viewing experience. I am hoping that audiences will be just as intrigued as I was, and enjoy it as much as I did performing in it.”

Los Angeles, Sep 15 (IANS) Streaming platform Netflix and Indian studio Yash Raj Films (YRF) have entered into a multi-year creative partnership.

The partnership will kick off with four-part thriller series ‘The Railway Men’, a previously-announced tribute to the unsung heroes of the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy, reports Variety.

They will “collaborate to create films and series to bring defining stories to audiences in India and across the world,” they said in a statement.

A cloud of toxic gas escaped from an American pesticide plant, in 1984, in the central Indian city of Bhopal. It killed and injured thousands of people. The protagonists of ‘The Railway Men’ are workers at the Bhopal railway station who saved thousands of lives.

The cast is led by R. Madhavan, Kay Kay Menon, Divyenndu Sharma and Babil Khan.

The series marks the directorial debut of Shiv Rawail, who has had previous stints as assistant director on Yash Raj Films productions ‘Dhoom 3’ and ‘Fan’.

Shiv was first AD on ‘Befikre’, starring Ranveer Singh, which was directed by Yash Raj Films’ chair and MD Aditya Chopra.

As per Variety, it is the first production from YRF Entertainment, the studio’s streaming production arm.

The second project under the partnership is also a period piece inspired by true events.

Set in the 1800s, the film ‘Maharaj’ is a David vs Goliath story about how a regular man, journalist by profession, takes on a powerful role-model of society, hailed by many as a messiah for the masses. The fearless reporter uncovers a series of incidents that shake the very foundation of society.

The film marks the debut of actor Junaid Khan, the son of Aamir Khan, and also stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Sharvari and Shalini Pandey. The film is directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra, whose last film ‘Hichki’ was a hit.

YRF is on a roll in 2023. The studio’s ‘Pathaan’ starring Shah Rukh Khan, released in January and is the biggest Indian box office hit of the year.

The Netflix series ‘The Romantics’ about YRF founder Yash Chopra, was also a hit.

Mumbai, June 1 (IANS) Ahead of the 12th anniversary of the killing of Mumbai crime journalist Jyotirmoy Dey, Netflix will stream 'Scoop' from June 2, a series that promises to revive the memories of his gory end by the omnipresent mafia.

Directed by the National Award winner filmmaker Hansal Mehta ('Shahid' and 'Scam:1992'), 'Scoop' stars Karishma Tanna, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Harman Baweja, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Deven Bhojani in the main roles.

The series is based on the biographical novel 'Behind Bars In Byculla: My Days In Prison', penned by former journalist Jigna Vora, who was one of the prime accused in the Dey murder case. But after a harrowing seven years' ordeal, she was finally acquitted in 2018 and her acquittal was upheld by Bombay High Court in 2019.

Dey, 55, the Investigations Editor for multi-city tabloid, 'Mid-Day', was shot dead around 3 p.m. on June 11, 2011, by four sharpshooters who came on motorcycles and disappeared after executing the sensational crime.

At the time, Dey was returning to his home in Powai on a motorcycle after meeting his mother in Ghatkopar when the four-member gang attacked him near the Hiranandani Gardens.

He was rushed to a local hospital and then to the Hiranandani Hospital but pronounced dead on admission with at least 9 bullet injuries.

Mumbai Police suspected that it was a professionally done operation and maybe related to Dey's professional work -- which proved to be true later -- and the underworld hatched the killing, taking advantage of the purported media rivalries and the hazards of the media profession.

Under severe pressure, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch set up multiple teams and finally cracked the case in about 16 days and nabbed seven accused from different states of India.

While three were caught from Chembur (Mumbai), one was nabbed from Solapur and two others from Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu, and the mastermind was stated to be the dreaded mafia don, Rajendra S. Nikhalje, alias Chhota Rajan, who was holed up abroad from where he remote-controlled the operation.

Those nabbed and later faced the trial included Rohit Thangappan Joseph alias Satish Kaalia -- the main killer; Arun J. Dake; Abhijeet K. Shinde; Anil B. Waghmode; Nilesh N. Shendge alias Babloo; Sachin S. Gaikwad; Mangesh D. Agawane; Deepak Sisodia; Vora and Joseph Paulson (both let off); and Vinod Chembur who died during the trial.

Eight of the accused, and Chhota Rajan, were slapped with life imprisonment and fines of varying amounts, while Vora and Paulson were acquitted, thus downing the curtains on one of the most heinous crimes against media at that time.

Incidentally, on the run for nearly three decades and surviving attacks by the rival gang of Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar, Chhota Rajan, 64, was extradited to India from Bali, Indonesia in November 2015 and then faced the trial in the Dey murder case and several other cases.

A former colleague of Dey recalls him as a gusty professional who exercised due diligence before filing his investigative stories "since the mafia never forgets or forgives", worked hard, and went the extra mile to get 'a good story'.

"He was a man of few words, didn't poke his nose in other peoples' business, always appeared furtive or would keep glancing over his shoulders, rarely smiled or joked, would quietly disappear to meet 'sources' and on returning there would a victorious glint in his eyes at the 'story conquest' for the next day's breaking headlines," he said, preferring anonymity.

Over his 25-year long career, Dey had worked with publications like The Afternoon Despatch & Courier, The Hindustan Times, Mid-Day, The Indian Express, specialising in crime stories, and penned two books -- 'Zero Dial: The Dangerous World Of Informers' and 'Khallas'.

San Francisco, March 31 (IANS) Streaming giant Netflix has rolled out its ad-supported plan -- "Basic with Ads" for Apple TV users after a delay of months.

The service was announced in October of last year, but there were some devices that were not supported, including the Apple TV. The cheaper tier is now available in the Netflix tvOS app starting this week, reports TechCrunch.

Prior to this update, Apple TV users were not able to access Netflix's ads tier and were offered either a more expensive plan or an alternative device to try.

Chromecast, Chromecast Ultra, PlayStation 3 and Netflix app for Windows are yet to receive the tier, the report mentioned.

Netflix rolled out the "Basic With Ads" steaming plan on November 3 last year to subscribers in the US, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, Japan, Korea, Brazil, Canada and Mexico for $6.99.

Ads are 15 or 30 seconds in length and play before and during shows and films.

Meanwhile, Netflix has announced that it will bring 40 more games later this year, and also 70 titles are in development with its partners.

"That's in addition to the 16 games currently being developed by our in-house game studios," the company said in a statement.
