Her husband brought her body to the Sonauli border in Maharajganj district on Friday, officials confirmed.

The couple, Ramveer Singh Gola (58), a transporter from Ghaziabad, and his wife Rajesh Devi Gola (55), had traveled to Kathmandu on September 7 to visit the famous Pashupatinath temple. They were staying at Hotel Hyatt Regency.

According to family members, after completing temple visits and other religious tours, the couple decided to remain in the hotel on September 9 when unrest escalated. Protesters reportedly set the hotel on fire. Panic spread as smoke and flames engulfed the premises, forcing the couple to jump from the fourth floor to save their lives.

Rescue teams had placed mattresses on the ground, which saved them from immediate fatal injuries. However, Rajesh Devi sustained severe wounds and was rushed to a hospital, where she later died during treatment.

As per agency report, Ramveer Singh explained that with curfew imposed and the airport closed, they had no choice but to stay back in the hotel. When violence intensified, they attempted to escape by jumping, which left his wife fatally injured.

The body was transported from Nepal to the Sonauli border on Thursday by ambulance and later brought to the couple’s residence in Master Colony, Nandgram, Ghaziabad. Assistant Commissioner of Police Bhaskar Verma said the cremation took place on Friday afternoon at the banks of the Hindon River around 2:30 pm.

The tragic incident has underscored the risks Indian pilgrims and travelers faced amid widespread violence in Nepal, which has seen curfews, arson, and security clampdowns following political unrest.

P. Oli to resign on Tuesday.

According to officials, demonstrators set fire to key government buildings, including the parliament, the president’s office, the prime minister’s residence, political party offices, and homes of senior leaders. The unrest has left the country tense, with army patrols deployed across Kathmandu and other major cities.

The army announced that prohibitory orders would remain in force from morning until 5 pm nationwide, followed by a strict curfew until 6 am Thursday. Essential services such as ambulances, fire brigades, health workers, and security personnel are exempt from restrictions.

As per agency report, authorities said the measures were necessary to curb looting, arson, and destructive activities being carried out under the guise of protests. The army warned that any attempt at demonstrations, vandalism, arson, or attacks on individuals and property during the restricted hours would be treated as a criminal act.

Security forces have arrested 27 people in Kathmandu on charges of looting, arson, and vandalism. During raids in areas such as Chabahil, Boudha, and Gaushala, police recovered Rs. 3.37 lakh in cash, 31 weapons, magazines, and ammunition. Citizens were urged to return looted firearms and ammunition to the nearest police post or security personnel to prevent misuse, with the army warning of legal action against anyone found in possession of such weapons.

Officials also appealed to the public not to wear military uniforms, calling it illegal and dangerous in the current volatile situation. Streets that are usually crowded in Kathmandu appeared deserted, with only a handful of people venturing out for essential supplies while fire trucks worked to douse flames left from Tuesday’s riots.

The protests, largely led by students from “Gen-Z,” erupted over corruption and restrictions on social media. At least 19 people were killed in police action on Monday, which triggered hundreds of protesters to storm the prime minister’s office, leading to Oli’s resignation later that night. Although the government lifted the social media ban on Monday evening, demonstrations have continued, keeping Nepal on edge.

Authorities have appealed for calm and urged citizens to cooperate with security forces to restore peace and law and order.

As per agency report, the 55-year-old mountaineer departed from Kathmandu on Sunday, leading a team of climbers hoping to reach the summit of the 8,849-metre (29,032-foot) peak during the spring climbing season.

Speaking at the Kathmandu airport before departure, Kami Rita expressed confidence in his preparation, stating that he is mentally, emotionally, and physically ready for the challenge and currently in peak physical condition.

With a current record of 30 successful summits, Kami Rita reached the Everest summit twice in May last year. His closest competitor in this rare achievement is fellow Sherpa guide Pasang Dawa, who has successfully climbed the peak 27 times.

Although his immediate goal is to guide his group of climbers safely to the summit, Kami Rita did not rule out the possibility of attempting the climb again within the same season. He said that decision would depend on the weather conditions and the state of the mountain.

Kami Rita first summited Mount Everest in 1994 and has since returned nearly every year, becoming one of the most respected figures in high-altitude guiding. His extensive experience and deep knowledge of the mountain make him an essential part of the annual expeditions undertaken by climbers from around the globe.

Each year, hundreds of foreign climbers rely on the expertise of Sherpa guides like Kami Rita, whose skill and endurance are critical to ensuring safety and success on the treacherous path to the Everest summit.

Gurudatt Suvedi, the Director General of the Foreign Employment Department, confirmed on Thursday that these workers will be sent under the bilateral employment agreement between Israel and Nepal. He assured that the process is transparent, and the workers will not face fraud or exploitation since the recruitment is being handled directly by the governments of both countries.

Suvedi also emphasized that the selected Nepalese caregivers will receive attractive compensation packages, including housing and meal provisions, overtime pay, and comprehensive life and health insurance for both the workers and their families, all covered by the Israeli government. Additionally, 60% of the selected workers are women, as Israel has a higher demand for female caregivers than male workers in this sector.

More than 100 individuals are reported missing as rescue operations continue across the country.

As per the agency report, the worst-hit region is the capital city of Kathmandu and its surrounding areas, where large portions of the city remain submerged. Significant loss of life and property has been reported, and the city has lost road connectivity to other districts. The relentless rain has forced the closure of airports across Nepal, including in Kathmandu, as well as a halt to all domestic flights. Power outages and disrupted internet services have compounded the crisis, as fallen electrical poles have cut off electricity supplies.

In a record-breaking 323 millimeters of rainfall over 24 hours, the death toll surged to 100 within a single day, with more than 100 individuals still missing, according to reports from Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs. Hundreds have also been injured due to the flooding.

Landslides in the hilly regions have caused the complete closure of 48 national highways. All routes connecting Kathmandu to other regions have been blocked, leaving several districts isolated. Many passenger buses have been stranded since Friday evening, and some have been swept away by landslides, causing further fatalities. In one such incident, 14 bodies were recovered after two buses were buried under debris.

The ongoing rainfall has forced the suspension of operations at all airports nationwide, including Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport, where domestic flights remain halted. Due to poor weather and low visibility, most international flights scheduled for Saturday were diverted to India. Even flights that were operational on Sunday faced significant disruptions, as passengers could not reach the airport due to the flooding.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has confirmed that 15 major bridges have been destroyed by the flooding, including two key Bailey bridges that connected Nepal with China. The situation remains dire as rescue teams face challenges reaching the affected areas amidst widespread destruction.
