Ranchi, 20 April - Former Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar arrived at Ranchi Airport accompanied by his wife, Anjali, on Saturday morning. The couple was greeted with enthusiasm by a crowd of fans at Birsa Munda Airport. Tendulkar expressed his purpose for the visit, stating that he was in Ranchi for his foundation's work, particularly focusing on promoting women's football through the Sachin Tendulkar Foundation's collaboration with the Youth Foundation.

Tendulkar elaborated that the Sachin Tendulkar Foundation is closely involved with the Youth Foundation in Ormanjhi, where girls are being trained in football. His visit aims to encourage and support these young female athletes. The program at the Yuva Foundation in Ormanjhi is scheduled to include a meeting with the girls involved in the football training program.

The district administration, including Ranchi DC Rahul Kumar Sinha, ensured the security arrangements for Tendulkar's visit.

Renowned for his cricketing prowess, Sachin Tendulkar was appointed a national icon by the Election Commission of India last year. The Election Commission's decision aimed to boost voter participation, and Tendulkar's agreement with them spans three years.

Ranchi (Jharkhand), 28 February - President Draupadi Murmu delivered a stirring address at the third convocation ceremony of Jharkhand Central University (CUJ) held at the Cherry Manatu campus in Ranchi. Encouraging the students to contribute significantly to the country's prosperity and development, President Murmu highlighted the pivotal role of youth as the nation's greatest natural resource.

"With over 55 percent of the population belonging to the youth demographic, we are poised to become the third-largest economy in the world by 2030," remarked President Murmu. She stressed the need to create favorable conditions to realize the vision of an educated and prosperous India by 2047, urging the youth to not only build successful lives for themselves but also actively participate in nation-building.

Expressing her joy at attending the convocation ceremony, President Murmu congratulated the graduating students and commended their achievements. She particularly lauded the students who received gold medals for their academic excellence. She also extended her congratulations to the parents, guardians, and professors who supported and guided the students throughout their academic journey.

President Murmu drew attention to the significance of the Swarnarekha river flowing near the CUJ campus, stating that it is believed to bestow knowledge upon those who drink its water. She emphasized the university's motto, "Jnanathi Buddhi Kaushalam," which underscores the development of intelligence and skill through knowledge. President Murmu expressed confidence in the students' ability to apply the knowledge gained from CUJ to tackle complex challenges in their lives.

Celebrating the achievements of women, President Murmu highlighted that nearly 50 percent of the students receiving gold medals were female. She praised the determination and success of these women, calling them an inspiration for society and for every daughter aspiring for a bright future.

President Murmu also praised CUJ for its efforts to preserve and promote local cultural heritage, including setting up special centers for this purpose. She commended the university's eco-friendly initiatives, such as the green architecture of the Cherry Manatu Campus and the eco-conscious design of the Brambe campus, which avoids tree cutting.

At the convocation ceremony, President Murmu awarded the Chancellor's Medal to three students: Shubham Bhattacharya for Integrated M.Tech., Utpal for M.Tech., and Abhijeet Ganguly for M.Sc. A total of 67 medals were awarded, including 58 gold medals and 29 PhD degrees.

This visit marks President Murmu's second trip to Ranchi since assuming office. She had previously visited on May 24 for various events, including the inauguration of the new Jharkhand High Court building and a function organized by the Union Tribal Ministry.

Ranchi, 26 February - India secured a decisive victory over England in the fourth Test match in Ranchi, thanks to stellar performances from captain Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Dhruv Jurel. Their efforts helped India achieve a five-wicket win and take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series. Dhruv Jurel's Man of the Match performance, scoring 90 runs in the first innings and an unbeaten 39 in the second, was instrumental in India's triumph.

England won the toss and opted to bat first, posting a total of 353 runs in their first innings. In response, India scored 307 runs, giving England a 46-run lead. England struggled in their second innings, managing only 145 runs, setting India a target of 192 runs to win.

Chasing the target, India got off to a strong start with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal putting together an 84-run partnership for the first wicket. Although Rohit Sharma scored a half-century, he was dismissed for 55 runs. Ranchi, Jan 5 (IANS) Cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni has filed a lawsuit in the Ranchi court against two officials of Aarka Sports and Management Limited, accusing them of fraud amounting to over Rs 15 crore.

The case has been filed against Mihir Diwakar and Soumya Vishwas.

Dhoni had entered into an agreement with this company in 2017 regarding the establishment of a global-level cricket academy.

When the company failed to adhere to the terms of the agreement, Dhoni issued several notices, but receiving no response, he terminated the rights granted to the company from his side.

As per the agreement made between both the parties in 2017 for running the cricket academy, Aarka Sports was obligated to pay a franchise fee and share profits with Dhoni as per the agreement's terms, which were allegedly not honoured.

According to Dayanand Singh, representing Dhoni through Vidhi Associates, Aarka Sports did not adhere to these terms, causing significant financial loss to Dhoni.

Due to the non-compliance with the terms, Dhoni had sent a notice to Aarka Sports on August 15, 2021, and subsequently, the rights granted to the company were revoked.

Dhoni also sent several legal notices, but to no avail.

Meanwhile, Dhoni's friend Simant Lohani a.k.a Chittu, has also filed a complaint, alleging that he was threatened by Mihir Diwakar after they took legal action against Aarka Sports.

Ranchi, March 22 (IANS) A four-day-old baby died during a police raid which was conducted to arrest his grandfather in Jharkhand's Giridih district on Wednesday, after a policeman allegedly stepped on him.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren has directed the police headquarters to probe the matter and initiate action.

The incident took place in Kosogondodighi village of the district.

According to sources, a team led by Sangam Pathak, in-charge of Deori police station, reached the house of one Bhushan Pandey to arrest him in the wee hours.

When the family members did not open the door, the team forcibly entered inside and a policeman climbed on the bed where the infant was sleeping and allegedly crushed him to death.

The police did not arrest Pandey after the incident and left the spot, said sources.

The incident created an uproar among the villagers who are demanding that a murder case be registered against all the policemen present in the team.
