Thane, Oct 13 (IANS) An unidentified gunman barged into a bakery in Thane on Friday, pointed a gun at some staffers, and attempted to shoot them, but the gun got jammed and he fled the spot, police said.

The shocking incident happened in the International Baking Company’s Mira Road town outlet around 10 a.m., said an official of Kashi-Mira Road Police Station.

The unknown person, wearing a helmet, entered the bakery and pointed the revolver at the staffers who froze in terror, and started to shoot them, but the weapon did not fire.

Panicking, the would-be-shooter opened the bakery door and fled from the scene.

The bakery staffers alerted the police and senior officials led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Jayant Bajbale and others rushed to the spot. The police have formed a special squad to track the mystery gunman, checking the CCTVs on the roads and other locations.

The incident at the shop, which is barely a few metres away from the local police station, sent shockwaves in the locality even as police beefed up patrolling and security as a precaution

The motive of his act, the entire sequence of which was recorded in the shop’s CCTV, is not clear.

Thane, June 8 (IANS) The prime accused in the Thane murder case allegedly stooped to unimaginably gory levels to disguise his live-in partner's killing, stunning even the police investigators, officials said on Thursday.

Accused, Manoj Sahani, 56, was nabbed late on Wednesday night after he was found living in his rental flat with several body pieces of his live-in partner, Saraswati Vaidya, 32, whom he had killed recently.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Jayant Bajwale and his team have uncovered how he stored the body pieces in plastic bags strewn around the 7th floor flat of Akashdeep Building in Geeta Nagar area of the Mira Road town, around 10 km north of Mumbai borders.

Sahani, who is a shopkeeper in north Mumbai, had reportedly disposed off some portions of the woman's upper half and he is believed to have used a saw (cutter) to chop off her heavy limbs and bones.

Some body pieces he allegedly cut and chopped in a mixer and a few others he boiled in a pressure cooker ostensibly to kill the odour emanating from the decomposing body parts, and police found the victim's feet in the kitchen awaiting a round of cooking.

In fact, it was the very stench that blew the lid off the heinous crime when neighbours complained to the police and a team rushed there on Wednesday afternoon.

DCP Bajwale told IANS that the couple had been in a live-in relationship for at least three years at the rented flat, and the murder is suspected to have taken place early this week (around Sunday-Monday).

"They apparently had a bitter fight over some issue and in a likely bout of rage, Manoj killed Saraswati in their home. Later he indulged in the other acts to erase the evidence of his crime. However, as soon as we entered the flat, it was clear that a gruesome murder had been committed and we caught him," said Bajbale.

Police suspect that some of the missing body parts Sahani may have flushed down the toilet drain, or fed to the stray dogs as claimed by some neighbours or disposed of them in the mangroves nearby and investigations are ongoing.

The exact motives of the chilling murder are yet to be ascertained, but Sahani, who appears unrepentant, is being grilled by a police team before he is produced before a court later on Thursday, said an official.

Shocked residents in the Geeta Nagar neighbourhood speak of the sensational case in hushed tones, and some recall the couple as aloof, not mingling with the people around them and keeping to themselves.

The unsold flat had been leased out by the builder through a property agent to Sahani-Vaidya three years ago, where they lived since.

A worried woman property consultant in Mira Road said that whenever such heinous crimes come to the fore, it immediately adversely affects realty prices in the complex, immediate neighbourhood, and the vicinity.

"It becomes very difficult for people wanting to sell/dispose off the flat, as the property and the locality acquires a bad reputation... there are few takers or it has to be condemned to a distress sale at a huge loss," the woman, who declined to be identified, said.

Thane, April 4 (IANS) In a shocker, a seven-month pregnant woman activist of the Shiv Sena (UBT) was brutally assaulted by some persons in Thane, the hometown of Shiv Sena Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, officials said here

The incident happened late on Monday.

Former CM and Sena (UBT) President Uddhav Thackeray, his wife and son Aditya Thackeray rushed to Thane to enquire after the health of their party worker, Roshani Shinde-Pawar, was admitted to the ICU of a nearby hospital.

The Kasarvadavali Police Station has filed a case and is probing the matter, while Shinde conducted a meeting of officials on the issue that has snowballed into another political fracas between the two breakaway Sena factions.

According to officials, the trigger for the attack on Shinde-Pawar was a social media post made by her on Monday that enraged the rival side activists.

Late Monday night, a group of workers, allegedly belonging to the Shiv Sena, brutally assaulted Shinde-Pawar and scooted from the area.

The grievously injured Shinde-Pawar in an advanced stage of pregnancy was rushed to a local hospital and later shifted to the ICU this morning.

Sena (UBT) senior leader Sushma Andhare condemned the attack, saying that this has been repeatedly happening all over the state and cited the instance of another party worker Girish Kolhe, who also hammered in the CM's home town, and another woman activist beaten up in Kalyan town.

"When we (the Opposition) go to lodge police complaints, we are not entertained, but culprits supporting the ruling alliance are given priority in lodging complaints against us and immediate action is taken," Andhare said.

Local politicians claim that Shinde-Patil's post allegedly taking a potshot at the CM did not go down well with his supporters, resulting in the attack.

Thane, March 22 (IANS) The CGST Bhiwandi, Thane unit has arrested an Accounts and Finance Manager of Oppo Mobiles India Pvt. Ltd. for alleged fraudulent availment of input tax credit to the tune of Rs 19 crore on fake invoices from a non-existent supplier, an official said here on Wednesday.

The CGST sleuths swooped on the Oppo office and presented the Manager, identified as Mahendra Kumar Rawat, before a court which remanded him to judicial custody till April 3.

Rawat has been charged under CGST Act, 2017 Section 69 and 132 based on his confessions pertaining to committing the irregularities.

The Anti-Evasion Wing of CGST Bhiwandi learnt during investigations that the Oppo Maharashtra was indulging in availing fake ITC without receiving any goods from Gain Hero India Pvt. Ltd., a non-existent (fake) company.

The sleuths verified 16 e-way bills for the purported transactions which turned out to be fake

They also recorded the statements of transporters and vehicle owners which revealed that there was no supply of any goods to Oppo Maharashtra. The Oppo mobiles manufacturing global giant is headquartered in Dongguan, China.

The manager Rawat, who is also the authorised signatory, has emerged as the main person who played a key role in availing the fraudulent ITC amounting to over Rs 19 crore against the invoices of more than Rs 107 crore issued by the non-existent supplier, Gain Hero India Pvt. Ltd, without receiving the goods, said the CGST.

The CGST Commissioner Bhiwandi, Sumit Kumar said that this case was part of a special drive launched by the Mumbai Zone against tax fraudsters and evaders, and led to 24 arrests in the past 18 months.
