Patna, November 19, 2025: The major constituent parties of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Wednesday elected their respective legislature party leaders. In a meeting of Janata Dal (United) (JDU) MLAs, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was chosen as the leader of the legislative party. Simultaneously, the newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs selected senior leader Samrat Chaudhary as their legislative party leader. Both parties confirmed this information.

The JDU meeting was held at 'Samvad' within the Chief Minister's Secretariat complex in Patna, attended by all newly elected MLAs and 22 members of the Legislative Council from the party. This decision was made ahead of a joint meeting of NDA constituent parties, where Kumar is also expected to be elected as the alliance leader.

JDU leader and outgoing state minister Shravan Kumar stated that the newly elected MLAs chose Nitish Kumar as the leader of the JDU legislative party. He informed that JDU leaders Vijay Chaudhary and Umesh Kushwaha proposed the motion, which was supported by senior JDU leader Bijendra Yadav, and subsequently endorsed by JDU's acting national president Sanjay Jha and Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh 'Lalan'.

After being elected as the legislative party leader, Nitish Kumar addressed the assembled leaders, urging continuous efforts for the welfare of the state. Party leader Shravan Kumar announced that JDU chief Nitish Kumar, 75, will take the oath as Chief Minister for the tenth time on Thursday at Patna's historic Gandhi Maidan. He added that Kumar's election as the NDA leader in the five-party alliance meeting is certain.

Meanwhile, in the BJP legislative party meeting, newly elected MLAs chose Samrat Chaudhary as their leader. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and BJP central observer Keshav Prasad Maurya stated that BJP MLAs unanimously elected Samrat Chaudhary as the legislative party leader and Vijay Sinha as the deputy leader. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and former Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti were present as co-observers at the meeting.

A BJP leader informed that a total of 10 newly elected MLAs proposed the names of Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Sinha as leader and deputy leader respectively, which were unanimously supported by all MLAs. After being elected as the deputy leader of the party's legislative group, Sinha told reporters that he is grateful for the trust placed in him by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the top leadership. He pledged to work diligently to fulfill the Prime Minister's resolve of 'good governance to prosperity'.

Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters that decisions are made with love and consensus, as per agency report. He added that the public first elected the government with a huge majority, and now the legislative party has chosen its leader.

In the interim, JDU leader Shravan Kumar said that Nitish Kumar would meet Governor Arif Mohammad Khan in the evening to request the initiation of the process to form a new government. He will also submit letters of support from all NDA constituents to the Governor. He mentioned that the term of the current assembly would conclude on Wednesday. BJP leader Maurya also stated that after the election of the legislative party leaders of both parties, the NDA would formally meet the Governor to stake claim to form the government.

Following the selection of leaders for both major parties, an official meeting of all NDA constituent parties will be held. In this meeting of the alliance's legislative party, Nitish Kumar is expected to be unanimously elected as the leader of the NDA legislative party. Sources indicated that after the joint NDA meeting, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, along with his allies, will visit the Raj Bhavan to meet the Governor and stake claim to form the government. Preparations for the swearing-in ceremony are also underway simultaneously.

In the 243-member assembly, the NDA secured a massive majority by winning 202 seats. In the elections, BJP won 89 seats, JDU 85, LJP (Ram Vilas) 19, 'HAM' five, and RLM four seats. BJP has become the largest party in the assembly for the first time.

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) president Nitish Kumar said on Friday that the people of the state have reaffirmed their faith in his government as the National Democratic Alliance moved towards a decisive victory in the Assembly elections. He expressed gratitude to voters and acknowledged the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders of the alliance partners, as per agency report.

Nitish Kumar stated in a post on X that the citizens of Bihar had given the NDA a strong mandate in the 2025 Assembly elections, reflecting widespread confidence in his administration. He thanked all voters for their overwhelming support and extended his appreciation to the Prime Minister for his cooperation.

The JD(U) leader said that the NDA fought the elections with complete unity and secured a substantial majority. He conveyed his thanks to alliance partners Chirag Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi and Upendra Kushwaha for their contribution to the coalition’s success.

Nitish Kumar added that with the continued cooperation of all allies, Bihar would move ahead on the path of development and progress towards becoming one of the most advanced states in the country.

Patna : Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated 24 new buildings at IIT Patna, the permanent campus of IIM Bodh Gaya, and the Bhagalpur Triple IT institute on Tuesday. The ceremony also saw the participation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who joined via video conferencing from the Bihar Assembly.

This marks a significant development for higher education in Bihar, providing students with enhanced facilities across these institutions. The newly constructed buildings at IIT Patna, built at a cost of Rs 466 crore, include an Academic Block, Central Library, Hostel, Central Lecture Hall, and Student Activity Centre. Established in 2008 thanks to the Chief Minister's efforts, IIT Patna has steadily grown, and this permanent campus further strengthens its infrastructure.

Similarly, the inauguration of the IIM Bodh Gaya campus offers modern smart classrooms and a library, while the Bhagalpur Triple IT building, constructed at a cost of Rs 128 crore, provides improved facilities for students in the region.

Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, and Science, Technology, and Technical Education Minister Sumit Kumar Singh also participated in the virtual ceremony, marking the government's commitment to educational advancement in Bihar.

Patna, Feb 12 (IANS) Nitish Kumar-led government in Bihar comfortably managed to win the vote of trust on Monday.

The Nitish Kumar government got 129 votes in Bihar assembly while the opposition leaders walked out from the House. Three RJD MLAs -- Chetan Anand of Sheohar, Neelam Devi of Mokama and Prahlad Yadav -- voted in favour of Nitish Kumar government.

Deputy speaker Maheshwar Hazari did not vote in the assembly as the Nitish Kumar already crossed the magic figure of 122. If the situation was tight, then he might have cast his vote in the favour of Nitish Kumar government. Hazari is a MLA of JD-U.

After winning the vote of trust, former industry minister Shahnawaz Hussain congratulated Nitish Kumar for the victory. “Under the guidance of PM Narendra Modi and the leadership of Nitish Kumar, the double-engine government will work at a rapid pace in Bihar for the development. It is a new start for the new mission with new energy.”

RJD and Mahagathbandhan played well during the vote of trust but they failed at the last moment due to the three RJD leaders who cross-voted.

NDA leaders had earlier claimed that they have the majority of 128 MLAs in Bihar assembly. RJD MLAs Chetan Anand, Neelam Devi and Prahlad Yadav were involved in cross-voting. They changed the camp following the no confidence motion passed against Speaker Awadh Bihari Choudhary.

Patna, Feb 3 (IANS) Six days after the formation of the NDA government in Bihar, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday distributed portfolios among the cabinet ministers.

Nitish Kumar held Home and General Administration, as he has in all his tenures.

He also kept the Education Ministry with JD-U.

Education was with RJD in his last stint and the then Education Minister Chandra Shekhar had been making news for wrong reasons.

BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary will be in charge of the Finance Ministry.

In the BJP-JD-U alliance, it had been a norm for the BJP to hold Finance. BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi in his role as Deputy Chief Minister in the erstwhile regimes held Finance.

Samrat Choudhary will also hold Urban Development and Housing, Health, Sports, Panchayati Raj, Industry, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries and Law.

Vijay Kumar Sinha, another deputy chief minister from BJP will be in charge of Agriculture, Road Construction, Land Reforms and Revenue, Sugarcane, Mining, Labour Resource, Art, Culture and Youth Affairs, Minor Water Resources and PHED.

Vijay Kumar Chaudhary (JD-U) has been given the charge of Education, Water Resource, Parliamentary Affairs, Building construction, Road Transport and Information and Public Relation departments.

Vijendra Yadav, the minister under the JD-U quota will hold energy, planning and development, liquor prohibition, and minority affairs.

Prem Kumar (BJP) has been given the charge of co-operative, disaster management, and environment forest and climate change ministry.

Shrawan Kumar was given the charge of Rural Development, Social Welfare and Food and Civil Supplies.

Santosh Kumar Suman got charge of IT and SC-ST ministry while Sumit Kumar Singh, the independent MLA was given the post of science and technology and technical education.

Patna, Jan 28 (IANS) Nitish Kumar dissolved the Mahagathbandhan government in Bihar after resigning from the post of chief minister on Sunday, and with this he has reached the same stage where he left the NDA on August 9, 2022. This was the fifth time in the last 10 years that he changed alliances.

Kumar had exited the NDA last time after making an allegation on BJP that its leaders were involved in breaking his party. He had pointed fingers at BJP chief J.P. Nadda, who had made a statement in Patna BJP office on July 31, 2022 that all regional parties need to be uprooted from the country.

After he left the NDA then, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said that all doors of BJP and NDA were closed for Nitish Kumar. He held a series of rallies in Purnea, Nawada, Sitab Diara, Jhanjharpur, and other places and repeatedly said that all doors of BJP and NDA were closed for Nitish Kumar.

This line was used by several BJP leaders, including Samrat Choudhary, Vijay Kumar Sinha, Giriraj Singh, Sushil Kumar Modi, Ashwini Kumar Choubey and several other leaders of Bihar.

Now as the situation once again was heading for a change in Bihar, Sushil Modi claimed that doors cannot be closed permanently. "It opens according to the situation," he said.

With the new alliance, Nitish Kumar is going to take oath as the chief minister of Bihar for the ninth time., His deputies will be Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha, who were the most vocal faces against Nitish Kumar from August 9, 2022 till the last week. Samrat Choudhary had also taken the oath to remove the turban only after removing Nitish Kumar from the post of chief minister.

Nitish Kumar, after the resignation, targeted the leaders of INDIA bloc.

“I was instrumental in the formation of INDI alliance in 2022 but they were not working on It. The progress of INDI Alliance was not according to our expectation. Then, I decided to exit from it,” Kumar said.

“We were doing many public oriented programmes but they (RJD and Congress) were not working as per our expectation. Working with them was getting tough for me and hence I resigned from the post of chief minister and also dissolved the government,” Kumar said.

“Now, we will discuss with the leaders of new alliance partners to decide the next step,” he said.

Nitish Kumar's switching the boats to and fro from RJD to BJP started 10 years ago when he broke the alliance with NDA after BJP projected Narendra Modi as a prime ministerial candidate in 2014. Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) contested the election alone and won only two seats. Due to his dismal performance, he resigned from the post of chief minister on moral ground and made Jitan Ram Manjhi the chief minister in 2014.

After nine months, Nitish Kumar removed Manjhi from the post of chief minister and took the power in his own hand.

He formed the alliance with RJD in 2015 Assembly election and defeated BJP convincingly. He became the chief minister of Mahagathbandhan despite being the younger partner in it with 69 seats and RJD had 80 seats. He broke the alliance with RJD in 2017 after the name of Tejashwi Yadav came in the charge sheet of land-for-job scam. Nitish Kumar again formed the government with the help of BJP then.

Nitish Kumar contested the 2020 Assembly election under the umbrella of NDA with BJP HAM-S and VIP being the alliance partners. The JD(U) underperformed with just 43 MLAs winning. As Nitish Kumar is a hard bargainer, he became the chief minister again.

Kumar broke the alliance with BJP in August 2022 and formed the government with RJD. He took the oath as the chief minister of Bihar.

Patna, Jan 24 (IANS) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the central government conferred Bharat Ratna to Bihar’s two-times chief minister Karpoori Thakur.

“It is a matter of great pleasure to give the country's highest honor 'Bharat Ratna' to former Chief Minister and great socialist leader Late Karpuri Thakur ji. This is a right decision of the Central Government,” the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister said that this highest honor given to Late Karpoori Thakur on his 100th birth anniversary will create positive sentiments among the Dalits, deprived and neglected sections.

“We have always been demanding to give 'Bharat Ratna' to Late Karpoori Thakur ji. The years old demand has been fulfilled today. Thanks to Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this,” the Chief Minister said.

JD-U is organising a rally in veterinary college ground in Patna on Wednesday.

Nitish Kumar has always believed that Karpoori Thakur is his political mentor.

Patna, Jan 1 (IANS) The Nitish Kumar Government released details of the assets of its Cabinet Ministers on the last day of 2023.

As per the data released by the Government, the Bihar Chief Minister has Rs 22,552 in cash and total deposits amounting to Rs 48,000 in three bank accounts.

Nitish Kumar also has movable assets worth Rs 16.84 lakh and owns one 1,000 sq ft flat in Delhi’s Dwarka area. That apartment was purchased at a cost of Rs 13.78 lakh in 2004 and its current market value is Rs 1.48 crore. Apart from this, Nitish Kumar has 23 head of cattle that includes 10 cows.

However, Tejashwi Yadav, the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar has more wealth than his senior. Tejashwi declared Rs 50,000 in cash, while his wife Raj Shree has Rs 1 lakh in cash.

Tejashwi Yadav also has Rs 54 lakh in his bank accounts, shares of Rs 5.38 lakh and 200 grams of gold. His wife has 480 grams of gold and daughter 200 grams of gold.

Tejashwi owns two bigha of land in Phulwari Sharif in Patna, two bigha of agricultural land in Gopalganj, eight katha non-cultivable land in Danapur, and also has land at Dhanaut and Gardanibagh worth Rs 36 lakh.

Former Chief Minister Rabri Devi and her son Tej Pratap Yadav jointly have Rs 39 lakh in their bank accounts.

Tej Pratap Yadav, the environment, forest and climate change minister in the Bihar Government has two luxury cars including a BMW worth Rs 29.43 lakh, another car worth Rs 22 lakh and a bike worth Rs 15.34 lakh. Tej Pratap has Rs 98,000 in cash, Rs 17 lakh deposited in various banks, cultivable land worth Rs 42 lakh, non-cultivable land worth Rs 88 lakh and a residential house worth Rs 1.78 lakh.

Sumit Singh, the science and technology minister of Bihar Government has Rs 2.52 lakh cash, and his wife has Rs 3.11 lakh cash. His wife also has jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh and FDs worth Rs 73 lakh. Sumit Singh has Rs 1.11 crore in fixed deposit in a bank, a Qualis SUV, a pistol and a rifle in his name.

Patna, Dec 25 (IANS) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday again said that he does not want to have a post in INDIA bloc but only wishes that the seat sharing formula must be finalised in every state as soon as possible.

“I do not wish for any post. Leaders of other parties make statements about me but I am saying right from the beginning that I have no wish for any post.

“I just want that the seat sharing formula must be finalised as soon as possible in all states,” the Chief Minister said while interacting with the media persons.

He said that the meeting of the INDIA bloc took place in a positive manner in Delhi.

“We have decided to fight the Lok Sabha elections collectively,” the Chief Minister said.

New Delhi, April 12 (IANS) Amid talks of opposition unity ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress, JD(U) and RJD leaders met here on Wednesday.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar along with his deputy and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in the presence of Rahul Gandhi.

The meeting took place at Kharge's residence.

After the meeting, the four addressed the media jointly.

Kharge said that they will reach out to like-minded parties. "We have decided to unite all opposition parties and fight the election unitedlly."

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said, "We will reach out to as many political parties and move forward together."

Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said, "This is a battle of ideologies and it is a historic step towards the 2024 fight."

The meeting comes after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge took the first step to unite the opposition parties ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Kharge has made phone calls to leaders of various like-minded opposition parties, including M.K. Stalin, Nitish Kumar and Uddhav Thackeray.

Kharge has invited these leaders for an opposition meet in Delhi next month to formalise a common agenda.

Sources said that the leaders interacted on the opposition unity and future strategy to challenge the BJP in the country.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, on several occasions has been saying that he is waiting for the Congress to take the initiative of getting the opposition together.

Surat – A man who threatened to bomb Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been arrested in Laskana, Surat. The arrest was a joint effort between Bihar Police and the Surat Crime Branch, leading to the apprehension of Ankit Mishra, the accused. Originally from Bihar, Mishra has been living in Surat for the past six years.

The threat against Nitish Kumar was issued two days ago, prompting Bihar Police to open an investigation. Technical surveillance led to the identification of Mishra as the caller, and his mobile location was tracked to Surat. Bihar Police then contacted Surat Police for assistance.

Mishra was arrested in Laskana by the Surat Crime Branch and handed over to Bihar Police for further questioning. Authorities are investigating any potential connections to political parties. PI Lalit Vagadia of the Surat Crime Branch stated that a crime was registered against an unknown individual at the Sachivalaya police station in Bihar's Patna district following the bomb threat.

Surat Crime Branch worked closely with Bihar Police to trace Mishra's location. After deploying a team led by PSI Dodiya, they managed to locate and arrest Mishra in Laskana. The suspect was found with the help of human sources and technical surveillance.

During interrogation, it was revealed that Mishra had completed education up to the 12th standard and had been working in a loom factory in Lascana, Surat. Authorities are investigating his motives for threatening the Bihar Chief Minister. Preliminary examination of Mishra's phone showed that he had searched multiple numbers through Google, eventually contacting a media channel in Bihar to issue the bomb threat. The seized mobile has been handed over to Bihar Sachivalaya Police for further inquiry.
