As per a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two parties, Lucknow-based research institute will help the Odisha temple in growing special flowers such as lotus, Gandhraj and other aromatic plants needed for rituals.

The flowers will be grown in around 13 acres of the temple land.

It will not be the first such holy assignment for the NBRI, which had recently developed 'Namoh', a lotus with 108 petals.

“We have been developing flower clusters near temples like Gorakhnath in Uttar Pradesh, Shirdi temple in Maharashtra, Kashi Vishwanath in Varanasi and Meenakshi temple in Madurai, Tamil Nadu,” said NBRI director Ajit Kumar Shasany.

“Since devotees are not allowed to offer flowers bought from outside to deities, the offerings for the rituals are grown on the land owned by the temple. At present, the supply of flowers and plants used at the temple is insufficient to meet such a large need, hence NBRI will teach them techniques on how to cultivate aromatic plants and get full bloom in flowering plants,” said Shasany under whose guidance the institute had recently launched Jasmine cultivation at Puri temple land.

He said that the institute will also teach Puri temple staff the techniques for growing specific plants like Marjoram, Davana and others used for rituals.

The temple has given already allotted NBRI a piece of 13 acres of land for the purpose.

“The temple authorities had planted flowers and plants on this land but failed to give the desired result. Now, the task will be achieved with NBRI providing hand holding support to the temple staff,” said the director.

He said that while land and labour will be of the temple, the NBRI will provide good quality genotype plants of Gandhraj, Jasmine and marigold to them.

“We are also developing flower clusters in nearby villages from where temple authorities can also meet their present and future needs. We plan to train gardeners of the temple to make them independent in flower cultivation,” he added.

“Since lotus is also offered as part of the prayer, we will also help them grow ‘Namoh lotus’ at the temple site,” he added.

The 60 odd management students visited different temples and places of worship in the state capital on Sunday as part of their project.

Based on their experiences, the students will now pen down USP’s for each religious site from historical and spiritual perspectives and come up with ideas to make these religious places more attractive as tourist destinations.

The students said, “It was a wonderful experience to visit various temples of different types and architecture. The tourists visiting each temple were very different and the atmosphere too varied.”

The temple trail was an eye opener, taking the students through the deep and diverse history of each temple, unleashing the new side of Lucknow.

As students of destination marketing, it helped them recognise and appreciate the significance of the places around and how they can be woven meaningfully into a curated pilgrimage circuit for the target audience.”

Destination marketing faculty Prof Devashish Das Gupta, who introduced the religious trip, said, “As part of the immersion exercise in the course, we used to take students to major monuments and parks. For the very first time, we thought of this religious immersion trip to add a new image about Lucknow, which is otherwise popular for Nawabs and kebabs.”

Students, he said, will earn a maximum of 15 marks for writing a good report.

The report will include a religious tourism itinerary and a market strategy, including digital and social media interventions.

Students will prepare a need gap analysis benchmarking with the best practices across India.

“All the temples we visited were unique in their historical significance, structure and architecture. The walk helped us realise that Lucknow which is known as a city of nawabs also holds a key presence on the religious front,” he stated.

Their ‘Healthcare Cyber Risk Assessment model’ evaluates and mitigates risks of cyberattacks, thereby ensuring the security of patient data and the continuity of digital healthcare services for healthcare institutions.

The increasing complexity and sensitivity of data in healthcare organisations have heightened their susceptibility to cyberattacks, especially as the healthcare sector's reliance on digital data has grown during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Digital health records contain sensitive personal information like government IDs (e.g., Aadhaar), medical histories, finances, and insurance details, which cybercriminals can use for identity theft and fraud. Unfortunately, many healthcare organisations all over the world lack cybersecurity measures, making them easy targets for cybercriminals.

The team aimed to tackle this issue by investigating the weak points in healthcare data security that hackers exploit. They proposed that cyber threats become more likely when the healthcare staff lacks training to counter tactics like phishing, and when IT governance and security technology are not effectively implemented.

“Our risk assessment and quantification models have helped us group 1,788 US healthcare firms on a ‘heat matrix’ that shows the likelihood of a cyberattack and its potential severity. This gives us a clear picture of how ready the firms are to tackle cyber threats. We also propose a plan to tackle the risks, which is customised according to the position of the firm in the matrix,” said Prof. Arunabha Mukhopadhyay, from IIM-L, who led the research, in a statement.

The model, which can be extended to the Indian healthcare sector, can assist Chief Information Officers (CIOs) of healthcare institutions in determining the vulnerability of the healthcare institution to cyberattacks. It employs collective risk modelling to assess the potential severity of cyberattacks, which can help hospitals predict the impact and also offers recommendations on how to mitigate and prevent these cyberattacks.

The recommendations are derived from Rational Choice Theory and the standards outlined by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). They include prioritising cybersecurity measures such as firewalls, and antivirus solutions. The model also offers practical cyberattack safeguards for healthcare firms in high-risk quadrants of the heat matrix.

It also includes data backup, staff anti-phishing training, senior management engagement, advocating cybersecurity laws, and investments in cybersecurity technologies like endpoint detection and response (EDR), extended detection and response (XDR), next generation firewall (NGFW), antivirus, security incident and event management (SIEM), and security orchestration, automation and response (SOAR).

His kitchen garden in his three-storey house in Gomti Nagar has been brimming with tomatoes and Pandey has been generously sharing the crop with his neighbours.

"I have grown around 250 kgs of tomatoes since November and I have shared them with my friends and neighbours,” he says with pride.

Pandey, who works in a pesticide firm, began hobby-farming with 25 pots in 1992.

In 31 years since, his terrace garden has expanded to the neighbour's terrace and even further crawled to a neighbourhood park where he grows an array of fruit-bearing plants, including lemons, grapes, pomegranates, oranges, apples, bananas, and a significant number of mango trees. He also grows bottle gourd, eggplant, papaya, aloe vera, banyan, pipal, and more.

He nurtures a range of nearly 1,000 plants, including varieties of fruits, vegetables, and medicinal species in grow bags, empty drums, and flowerpots.

Though he works at a pesticide firm, his plats are grown organically.

Pandey prepares specific soil by mixing pond and field soils with cow dung, watering it twice a day in summer and once in winter.

The maintenance costs him Rs 12,000 a month from his own pocket. He has hired a hand to water the plants regularly.

His garden attracts a lot of birds which adds life to the mornings. There are some pesky monkeys too. But nobody grudges this because they await the basket of farm fresh veggies that come to their doorstep every morning.

This session was preceded by some college events in the form of G20 Quiz, Article Writing Competition, Model G20 Summit, and Pottery Making Competition, all of which aimed at engaging the youth in activities surrounding the upcoming summit.

The University Connect Session on Thursday began with the premier of the official G20 video announcing the Indian Presidency which talked about the honour and privilege that this opportunity has been for our nation and brought light to this year's theme of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (One Earth, One Family, One Future). The purpose of the University connect was to foster insightful discussions on global economic challenges and opportunities while facilitating a fruitful exchange of knowledge to guide the national youth. The event was graced with the presence of some esteemed speakers, who enlightened the students with their views on the Indian presidency of the 18th meeting of the G20 nations.

The Director of IIM Lucknow, Prof. Archana Shukla, began the event by expressing her gratitude towards RIS and MEA for providing the institute with a chance to host the University Connect. She emphasized on the importance of collective efforts amongst all member nations in solving the problems of sustainability, energy, climate, security, and peace. She also expressed her pride over the resonance of the IIML motto with our national ideology of producing socially responsible leaders and motivated the students to follow the path of developing a global mindset.

The lecture series began with an address by Mr. Sanjay Bhattacharyya - Secretary from the MEA and former ambassador to Switzerland, Turkey, and Egypt, who shared the story about the formation of the G20, India's priorities under its Presidency, and the role of youth in this global dialogue. He acknowledged the current age of transformation and the era of disruptive change in the world and asserted that our actions today will
decide the shape of our future. He laid down the seven priorities of the nation for the 2030 agenda setting, including climate financing, food security, and accelerating the pace of fulfillment of the SDGs among others.

The next valuable address to the audience was by Dr. Anand Maheshwari - Former IPS Office 1984 and Director General CRPF, who shared his interpretation of the meaning of management as the art of managing "men" and "technology" and the importance of learning to live in today's world of blended existence between online and offline sources of information. While guiding the youth as to how to leverage the G20 discussions to their benefit, he urged them to constantly learn about the new vectors of success from the SWOT analysis of the G20 nations. He emphasised on the importance of the principle of neutrality, as is prevalent in the CRPF, and left the audience with two rules of life to ponder upon: (i) The way we nurture nature becomes our culture, and, (ii) Only those who know how to merge will eventually re-emerge.

The final address in the series was by Dr. Balu Kenchappa - Regional Director, RBI Lucknow, who talked about the role of different countries like the US, Japan, China, in the financial development of the world as a whole and how India fits into this gamet of growth.

The institute and its students were honored to have received such valuable learnings from the guests on this special occasion and are privileged to have had the opportunity to partner with G20 University Connect for developing the leaders of tomorrow.

'Sabrang', the clinic, claims to be the only one of its kind in north India.

Ayush Kumar Agnihotri, the clinic manager, says, "Every month we get people confused about what they look like and what they feel from inside. Experts working with us find a solution."

Transgender is an umbrella term that encompasses people who have a gender identity or gender expression, which differs from their sex assigned at birth. Being independent of sexual orientation, they have often been classified as the "third sex."

Dr Heeralal, additional director, National Health Mission, said, "Based on various socio-cultural traditions and beliefs, they are frequently discriminated against and stigmatised. This has led to their limited social inclusion and participation."

"The average footfall at the clinic is up to 30 every month. All of them go for counselling and other services," said Ayush.

For transgender population, the current standard under the National AIDS Control Programme is to deliver HIV services through targeted interventions (TI) which are implemented by NGO/CBOs for prevention services.

The current HIV prevalence among the transgender population in India is 3.14 per cent as per the 2017 data.

Given that the transgender population has broader health care needs beyond HIV, offering comprehensive services will most likely increase access to and adherence to STI/HIV prevention and treatment and increase overall health and well-being.

In many health care settings, transgender and gender non-conforming individuals experience discrimination and mistreatment.

In all, 438 transgender persons were registered at the clinic and 32 district representatives are active in 17 districts. So far, 3 webinars have been organized under the chairmanship of Dr Heera Lal.

The consignment, which was booked from Haryana, was to be delivered in Bihar. The five miscreants, who had looted the truck on June 19, were arrested on Thursday.

After the loot, the miscreants had started leading a lavish life which made their competitors suspicious and they reported the matter to police who kept a tab on their activities and finally arrested them.

The miscreants were identified as Mohammed Faraz, the egg seller, Mumtaz, a tempo driver and Azmat Ali, a mobile phone mechanic, Sufian, a vegetable vendor and Ishtiaq, a driver.

They had used a sports utility vehicle in the crime.

DCP, north, Qasim Abidi said, “They have confessed their role in the crime. The truck was owned by one Shamshad Ahmad. The miscreants intercepted the truck near a toll plaza in Itaunja. They took driver Motilal and helper Munna Lal as hostage in the SUV and drove the truck to a secluded place in Sitapur where they unloaded the eggs which were finally brought to Faraz’s store in Lucknow on a mini-truck.

“Later, the miscreants freed the driver and the helper who immediately contacted their master in Haryana and the matter was also conveyed to truck owner who resides in Deoria,” said the officer.

The police had to scan 150 CCTVs to crack the case. “When we detained Faraz and started questioning him he broke down and spilled the beans,” Abidi said.

The five miscreants were paraded before driver of the looted truck and the cleaner who identified them.
