Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra are preparing to launch several new electric SUVs in the Indian market. The upcoming models include Mahindra BE 07, Mahindra XUV 9E, Tata Avinya, Tata Safari EV, and Tata Sierra EV, which will feature impressive range, modern features, and premium design.

Mahindra will introduce its new BE 07 in the mid-size electric SUV segment, with testing already underway. It may come with 59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh battery options and will compete with several upcoming electric SUVs. Additionally, the company is set to add a new variant of the 70 kWh battery pack in the XUV 9E and BE6, which could provide around 242 BHP of power and 380 Nm of torque, with a range of approximately 600 km.

On the other hand, Tata Motors is preparing to create a new segment with its premium electric SUV Avinya, which will be based solely on an electric platform and is expected to launch by the end of 2026 or early 2027. Furthermore, the Safari EV will be the company's first three-row electric SUV, expected to be unveiled around the festive season, featuring 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery options with rear-wheel and all-wheel drive systems. The Sierra EV will also be a significant offering from the company, anticipated to launch by mid-2026.

Surat – In a pioneering step towards sustainable urban mobility, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) will launch the country’s first Green Vehicle Policy on September 17, 2025, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. The initiative aims to promote the use of eco-friendly vehicles by offering significant incentives on electric, hydrogen, and bio-fuel vehicles.

Under the policy, buyers will receive direct benefits ranging from Rs 3,000 on an e-bike priced at Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 1 lakh on an e-car costing up to Rs 25 lakh. Additionally, 10 percent of parking spaces at municipal parking facilities will be reserved exclusively for green vehicles, while citizens using such vehicles will also be exempted from environmental charges. Registration of e-rickshaws will be prioritized to help reduce pollution levels in the city.

SMC Commissioner Shalini Agrawal highlighted that nearly 30 percent of Gujarat’s registered e-vehicles are in Surat, accounting for 2.5 percent of the country’s total. With the implementation of this new policy, the number of eco-friendly vehicles in the city is expected to rise significantly.

As per agency report, one of the most notable features of the policy is that it extends beyond electric vehicles, offering incentives for hydrogen and bio-fuel-based vehicles as well. Plans are also underway to introduce hydrogen-powered buses as part of a pilot project.

The policy has been developed with support from the Government of India, the Government of Gujarat, and international agency GIZ. Surat had previously set an example by becoming the first city in the country to operate a 100 percent electric bus fleet on its BRTS corridor. With this latest initiative, the city is positioning itself not only as a clean city but also as a leading green city in India.

New Delhi, July 31: India has established a total of 4,557 public charging stations (PCS) for electric vehicles (EVs) across 1,46,342 kilometers of state roads, national highways, and expressways. This information was shared in Parliament on Wednesday during a written response by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.

As per agency report, Uttar Pradesh leads the country with 507 public EV charging stations, followed by Karnataka with 489, Maharashtra with 459, Tamil Nadu with 456, and Rajasthan with 424 stations. Gadkari also clarified that there is currently no specific incentive scheme available for Charging Point Operators (CPOs).

Meanwhile, the number of EV public charging stations in Tier-2 cities has reached 4,625 as of April 1, 2025. The Indian government has also announced that under the newly launched PM e-Drive scheme, approximately 72,000 public charging stations will be set up across the country. This initiative comes with a financial outlay of ₹2,000 crore and aims to significantly enhance the EV infrastructure network.

The Ministry of Heavy Industries noted that these new charging stations will be strategically located at high-traffic areas such as metro cities, national highway corridors, toll plazas, railway stations, airports, fuel outlets, and state highways. The PM e-Drive scheme, launched in October 2024, is designed to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles through demand incentives and infrastructure development. The central government has allocated ₹10,900 crore under this initiative to provide subsidies for EV buyers.

Additionally, under the FAME-II scheme, the government has sanctioned ₹873.50 crore to three major oil marketing companies—Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL)—for the installation of 8,932 EV public charging stations.

Earlier this month, the government also rolled out a pioneering financial incentive plan for electric trucks (e-trucks) under the PM e-Drive initiative. This includes a maximum incentive of ₹9.6 lakh per vehicle to further boost the electric mobility ecosystem in the country.

Surat: The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) has appealed to the Gujarat government to immediately implement the reduction in RTO tax on battery-operated vehicles from 6% to 1%, as announced in the 2025-26 state budget. On Monday, April 14, 2025, the Chamber formally submitted a proposal to State Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai, emphasizing the urgency of the matter.

SGCCI President Vijay Mewawala stated that while the government had announced the tax reduction with effect from April 1, 2025, no government resolution (GR) has yet been issued to bring the policy into effect. He warned that any further delay in implementing the scheme could lead to a continued decline in the sale of electric vehicles (EVs) across the state.

Mewawala noted a significant drop in EV purchases this year compared to previous years. He emphasized that if the promised tax cut is promptly enforced, it would substantially lower the cost for buyers and reinvigorate demand for electric vehicles in the market.

The Chamber urged the state government to expedite the release of the GR, stressing that timely action would support the adoption of environmentally friendly vehicles in Gujarat and contribute to sustainable development goals.

New Delhi, April 11, 2025 — Ola Electric Mobility has introduced its much-anticipated Roadster X motorcycle from its Krishnagiri-based Futurefactory in Tamil Nadu. The electric two-wheeler, which marks a new phase in the company’s EV journey, is expected to hit the market later this month.

According to the company, the Roadster X series represents a significant leap in its efforts to revolutionize the electric vehicle segment. Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Ola Electric, stated that the launch not only introduces a new product but also signifies the beginning of a new era in the EV industry. He emphasized that this new model is set to lead the next stage of the electric revolution.

The Roadster X comes equipped with a mid-drive motor that is designed to enhance both performance and safety. The vehicle also features a chain drive and an integrated Motor Control Unit (MCU), underlining its engineering advancements.

The series is available in several battery configurations, offering varying price points to suit different user needs. The 2.5 kWh version is priced at Rs 84,999, the 3.5 kWh at Rs 94,999, and the 4.5 kWh at Rs 1,04,999. A higher-end variant, the Roadster X Plus with a 4.5 kWh battery, will cost Rs 1,14,999. The top-tier model, Roadster X Plus with a 9.1 kWh battery (featuring 4680 India-made cells), is priced at Rs 1,84,999.

As per agency report, the Roadster X Plus 9.1 kWh variant boasts an impressive range of up to 501 kilometers on a single charge, positioning it among the longest-range electric motorcycles available in the Indian market.

New Delhi: Indian two-wheeler giant Bajaj Auto is reportedly working on a new budget-friendly electric scooter following the success of its Chetak model. The upcoming electric vehicle (EV) scooter has been spotted testing on Indian roads, fueling anticipation among prospective buyers. As per agency report, industry experts believe that Bajaj might price this new electric scooter around ₹80,000 (ex-showroom), making it an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers.

There is speculation that this new model could either be a more affordable variant of the existing Chetak or an entirely new budget-friendly scooter. Spy images of the test prototype reveal similarities to the Chetak, particularly in the headlight design. However, noticeable differences include a more compact seating area and a shorter floorboard. The prototype also features oval-shaped front mirrors, a redesigned fork cover, and a single-pod taillight, distinguishing it from the Chetak.

Designed with urban commuting in mind, the scooter's compact frame makes it a practical choice for city riders. In terms of hardware, the vehicle is expected to come equipped with a front disc brake, dual rear shock absorbers, 12-inch wheels, and a front apron hook for added convenience.

On the performance front, the new Bajaj electric scooter is likely to feature a hub-mounted electric motor, a cost-effective solution for manufacturers. The scooter's top speed is anticipated to be around 50 km/h, with a battery pack smaller than that of the Chetak.

While Bajaj Auto has not officially announced the launch date or specifications, the testing phase indicates that the company is preparing to introduce a more accessible electric mobility option, potentially boosting the adoption of EVs in India’s two-wheeler segment.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced that the prices of electric vehicles (EVs) in India are expected to become equal to those of petrol-powered vehicles within the next six months. As per agency report, he made this statement while addressing the 32nd Convergence India and 10th Smart Cities India Expo on Wednesday.

Gadkari emphasized that the government's policy is focused on reducing imports, ensuring cost efficiency, promoting pollution-free transportation, and boosting indigenous production. He reiterated that infrastructure development is crucial for making India the world's third-largest economy.

During his address, the minister also provided an update on the progress of the 212-kilometer-long Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, stating that construction is expected to be completed within the next three months.

Highlighting the importance of reducing logistics costs, he stressed that improving road infrastructure would be instrumental in achieving this goal. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to smart cities and intelligent transport systems, stating that advancements in road construction technology and innovation must be encouraged to reduce costs and enhance efficiency.

The shift towards EV affordability is expected to accelerate the transition to sustainable transportation, further reducing India’s dependency on fossil fuels and lowering emissions in urban areas.
