Bumrah attributed his success to the learnings from India’s previous tour of England, highlighting how changes in his approach helped him this time around.

Bumrah dismissed key English batsmen including Ben Stokes (44), centurion Joe Root (104), Chris Woakes (0), and Brydon Carse, after removing Jofra Archer earlier. His spell helped bowl England out for 387 runs. Bumrah bowled a total of 27 overs, conceding 74 runs for his five wickets.

Speaking about his achievement, Bumrah said, “Last time I thought a lot about the slope here at Lord’s, but it didn’t help. This time I removed it from my mind and focused on making the most of the new ball, which is critical in these hot conditions. That made the difference.”

On being included on the Lord’s Honours Board, a visibly pleased Bumrah shared that it was a moment he would cherish with his son someday. “It’s a great feeling. I can’t bounce around like a 21-year-old anymore, but I’m glad I could contribute to the team. Seeing my name on the Honours Board is something I’ll proudly tell my son when he grows up,” he said with a smile.

In response to England’s 387, India ended Day 2 at 145 for 3. Yashasvi Jaiswal (13), Shubman Gill (16), and Karun Nair (40) were dismissed before KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant steadied the innings. Rahul remained unbeaten on 53, while Pant was not out on 19 at stumps.

As per agency report, Bumrah’s performance has not only strengthened India’s position in the Test but also reaffirmed his status as one of the most impactful fast bowlers in world cricket today.

With just one wicket shy of equalling Pakistan’s legendary pacer Wasim Akram’s record in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) nations, Bumrah could soon become the highest wicket-taking Asian bowler in these countries.

Wasim Akram claimed 146 wickets in SENA countries during his career. Bumrah, currently at 145 wickets, needs just two more to surpass Akram and set a new benchmark for Asian bowlers in the most challenging fast-bowling conditions.

The pitches in South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia are known for their pace and bounce, posing a significant challenge even for top bowlers. Yet, Bumrah has consistently delivered impactful performances across these venues. In England, he has played nine Tests, securing 37 wickets in 17 innings. In South Africa, he has taken 38 wickets in eight Tests. His outings in New Zealand have yielded six wickets from two Tests, while in Australia, he has been particularly impressive with 64 wickets from 12 Tests.

As per agency report, since making his debut in January 2018, Bumrah has played 45 Tests, collecting 205 wickets in 86 innings. Notably, he has claimed five or more wickets in an innings on 13 occasions, underscoring his consistency and match-winning ability.

India, led by young captain Shubman Gill in the absence of seniors Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, is keen to end its 18-year-long Test series drought in England. The last series win on English soil came in 2007 under the leadership of Rahul Dravid. Since then, India has toured England four times without clinching a series victory.

With Bumrah leading the pace attack and a fresh leadership approach, India will be hoping to make history — both as a team and through individual achievements on the field.

The awards ceremony took place just before the highly anticipated Champions Trophy match between India and Pakistan.

Despite being sidelined from the Champions Trophy due to a back injury, Bumrah's exceptional performances throughout 2024 earned him the prestigious accolades. Along with these awards, the 31-year-old was also presented with the ‘Team Cap’ for securing spots in both the Men’s Test and T20 International Teams of the Year.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) celebrated Bumrah’s achievements by sharing his award-winning moments on social media, stating, “Jasprit Bumrah receives the ICC awards and Team Cap for a remarkable 2024.”

Ahead of the India-Pakistan clash, Bumrah was seen interacting with his Indian teammates during a practice session, showcasing his unwavering support for the team.

Bumrah’s stats for the 2024 Test season were nothing short of spectacular. He claimed 71 wickets in 13 matches, outperforming his peers globally. The closest competitor, England’s Gus Atkinson, took 52 wickets in 11 matches. Bumrah's dominance was highlighted by his 14.92 bowling average and a phenomenal 30.1 strike rate, demonstrating his consistency and impact.

He joined the elite club of Indian bowlers, becoming only the fourth Indian after Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, and Ravichandran Ashwin to take 70 or more wickets in a calendar year in Test cricket. His performances in the home series against England at the start of the year saw him take 19 wickets in five Tests, followed by a remarkable 32 wickets in five Tests during India’s tour of Australia.

Notably, Bumrah also achieved the milestone of 200 Test wickets during the Australia series, cementing his status as one of India's finest pacers. Beyond the red-ball format, his contributions to India's T20 World Cup triumph in the West Indies and the USA were equally significant. He emerged as the leading Indian wicket-taker in the tournament, scalping 15 wickets and playing a pivotal role in securing the trophy.

While Bumrah's on-field absence is a setback for Team India, his awards serve as a testament to his influence and skill in international cricket. His fans and the cricketing fraternity eagerly await his return to the pitch, where his fiery spells continue to be a game-changer for India.

In a stellar performance, Bumrah took three wickets for just 14 runs in his four-over spell, maintaining an economy rate of 3.50. His victims included Pakistan's captain Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Iftikhar Ahmed. This impressive feat brought Bumrah's total to 79 wickets in 64 T20 Internationals, with an average of 18.67 and an economy rate of 6.44. His best bowling figures stand at 3/11.

In comparison, Hardik Pandya, who now holds the fourth spot, has taken 78 wickets in 94 T20 Internationals, with his best figures being 4/16. Topping the list for India is spin veteran Yuzvendra Chahal with 96 wickets in 80 games, followed by swing specialist Bhuvneshwar Kumar with 90 wickets in 87 matches.

The match saw Pakistan win the toss and choose to field. Indian batsmen struggled on the challenging pitch, with star openers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma scoring 4 and 13 runs, respectively. Rishabh Pant's 42 off 31 balls provided some resistance, supported by Axar Patel and Suryakumar Yadav. Despite their efforts, India was bowled out for 119 runs in 19 overs.

Pakistan's bowlers, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah, each took three wickets, while Mohammad Amir and Shaheen Shah Afridi added to the tally.

In response, Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan anchored the chase with 31 runs off 44 balls. However, Bumrah, along with Hardik Pandya, who took 2/24, dismantled Pakistan's lineup, taking crucial wickets including Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan, and Iftikhar Ahmed. With 18 runs required off the final over, Arshdeep Singh's tight bowling ensured Pakistan fell short, securing India's six-run victory. Bumrah's match-winning spell earned him the 'Player of the Match' award.

Bumrah's and Gerald Coetzee's stellar bowling performances led Mumbai Indians to a thrilling 9-run victory over Punjab Kings in the 33rd match of IPL 2024 at the Maharaja Yadvendra Singh International Cricket Stadium.

After the match, Bumrah commented, "It was a much closer match than we thought. We wanted to make an impact early on. In this format, the ball swings for two overs and you want to take advantage of it. It's a bit difficult for the bowlers in this format. All you can do is prepare your best and give your best, and that's what I try to do."

Batting first, Mumbai Indians scored 192 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to a splendid half-century by Suryakumar Yadav (78 runs off 53 balls, 7 fours, 3 sixes) and valuable contributions from Rohit Sharma (36) and Tilak Verma (34 not out). Harshal Patel took 3 wickets for Punjab, while Sam Curran and Kagiso Rabada claimed 2 and 1 wickets respectively.

In response, Punjab Kings faced early struggles, losing 5 wickets for just 49 runs. However, Ashutosh Sharma (61 runs off 28 balls, 2 fours, 7 sixes) and Shashank Singh (41 runs off 25 balls, 2 fours, 3 sixes) staged a comeback. Despite their efforts, Punjab fell short by 9 runs, finishing at 183 for 9 in 19.1 overs.

Gerald Coetzee and Jasprit Bumrah took 3 wickets each for Mumbai, while Akash Madhwal, Hardik Pandya, and Shreyas Gopal claimed 1 wicket apiece. Bumrah was awarded the Man of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance.

KL Rahul, who missed the previous two Tests due to injury, is also unlikely to feature, further testing India's bowling depth and batting stability.

The BCCI cited workload management as the reason for Bumrah's absence. The pacer has bowled over 80 overs in the first three Tests and with the IPL and T20 World Cup looming after June, managing his fitness becomes crucial.

Rahul's Fitness Remains a Question: KL Rahul, struggling with an unspecified injury, remains doubtful for the Ranchi Test. While his participation in the final match in Dharamshala is subject to fitness, his absence adds to India's batting woes.

Finding Bumrah's Replacement: Bumrah's absence leaves a big void in India's bowling attack. With 17 wickets at an impressive average of 13.64, he was the team's most potent weapon. Young pacer Mukesh Kumar, who returned to the squad after an impressive Ranji Trophy performance, could replace him.

India's commanding 2-1 lead in the series might be tested with these key players missing. Finding the right combination and filling the void left by Bumrah will be crucial in their quest to clinch the series against a resurgent England side.

With the fourth Test starting just four days after the conclusion of the third Test, India has limited time to adjust to these changes. While the fifth Test offers a breather, the Ranchi encounter promises a thrilling contest as India aims to maintain their dominance without their two star players.

Bumrah’s nine-wicket match haul, which included a brilliant 6/45 in the first innings at Visakhapatnam, helped India beat England by 106 runs to level the five-game series at 1-1, with the next match to begin at Rajkot on February 15.

Days after being given Player of the Match award and becoming the fastest Indian bowler to reach 150 wickets in the format, Bumrah became the first fast-bowler from the country to be at top of the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings.

"The real show stealer is BoomBall. We saw a little of Jaisball also. Jasprit Bumrah has bowled extraordinarily. He is the leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets and also the No.1 ranked Test bowler. I am a huge fan of his and this is a Himalayan feat," said Ashwin on his YouTube channel.

He also praised young batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, who scored 209 and 104 respectively in the Visakhapatnam Test. "Yashasvi Jaiswal has shown enormous growth. He scored a double-century. In fact, he came down and hit James Anderson towards the extra covers and got out after a double century. There's no doubt about the amount of talent that Shubman Gill has. But the hundred justified just the kind of armor he had as a batter."

Ashwin, who is one wicket from reaching the remarkable feat of 500 scalps in the format, further stated why the hosts’ don't have any real home advantage. "There’s never been a marquee Test series like this in five such venues before. In 2017, we played Tests against Australia in Ranchi and Dharamshala.

"However, in that series, the other venues were Pune and Bangalore. Usually, if there are 4-5 match Test series, at least one or two happen in metro cities. Unlike that, this time, it’s happening in venues that weren’t a part of the World Cup matches. For most Indian players themselves, these venues are new," he said.

"There are a lot of players playing in our own team who have not played a test match or a first-class in the Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy Cricket Stadium. I am not sure if this is possible in any other country. In India, it is possible because there are so many Test venues here.

"If you take the case of England, in this Test series, Tom Hartley made his debut. If Tom Hartley and Rehan Ahmed are playing a Test match in England, they can never say I’ve not played in Lancashire ground or Worcestershire ground. In fact, the matches never happen in Worcestershire.

"They cannot say that they have never played in Surrey Oval because they would have played. Not just the county matches, but even the Test matches there happen in these venues. But in India, because there are so many venues, even for Indian players it’s the first time they are playing a test or even a first-class match in these venues.

"So the home familiarity has gone missing in these cases. Of course, they would have played IPL, T20 or ODI matches here and there. But in playing red ball in a longer format, the familiarity really makes a difference," Ashwin concluded.

The ace pacer achieved this feat in just 34 games, surpassing the legendary Kapil Dev, who took 39 matches to achieve the same milestone.

Waqar Younis remains the quickest bowler, achieving this milestone in just his 27th Test.

While Erapalli Prasanna and Anil Kumble also took 34 Tests apiece to get the mark among the spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin (29) and Ravindra Jadeja (32) are the only Indians to reach the milestone faster than Bumrah.

Bumrah's remarkable journey places him in elite company, with only a select few bowlers globally reaching 150 Test wickets in fewer matches.

In his 16th home Test, Bumrah has showcased his prowess with an astonishing tally of 24 wickets at an average of 14-plus. This includes a notable five-wicket haul (5-24) that underlines his impact on home soil. Against England, Bumrah has notched up 50 Test wickets, maintaining an impressive average of 22-plus, a testament to his effectiveness against the formidable opposition.

Known for his ability to turn the tide of a match, Bumrah boasts an impressive record of nine five-wicket hauls in Tests, with six of them coming in SENA countries. This places him joint second with Zaheer Khan and B.S. Chandrasekhar, behind only Kapil Dev.

Bumrah's influence extends beyond home conditions, as he stands among the select few Indians to have taken over 100 wickets in SENA countries -– South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia.

With 113 wickets, he joins the ranks of legends like Anil Kumble, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Zaheer Khan, and Kapil Dev as bowlers who have taken more than 150 wickets in Test cricket.

Bumrah's crowning moment came against West Indies in Kingston in 2019, where he produced a career-best Test innings, claiming 6-27. This remarkable performance also included a hat-trick, making him the third Indian to achieve this rare feat in Test cricket.

"I am of that generation where Test cricket is king. I will always judge myself on it. Yes I started with IPL but I learned to bowl through first-class cricket; that’s where I developed my skill, the art of taking wickets. In Test cricket you have to get the batsman out and that challenges you as a bowler," Bumrah told The Guardian.

"T20s, ODIs, some days you might send down five slower balls and get five guys out, when in a Test match they wouldn’t have taken one. There is no luck in Test cricket, the better team wins, you cannot take 20 wickets through luck. I was never happy with just white-ball cricket and Test cricket is still the utmost format for me.

“I don't know how the youngsters look at it. But Test cricket has been around this long, it will find a way. Every format has its place – too much Test cricket would be boring, too much white ball the same. I think the sport needs a little bit of everything, rather than an overdose of one format or the other," he added.

Bumrah is the most experienced member of India's pace pack that will line-up for the first of five Tests against England in Hyderabad starting January 25.

Speaking of aggressive approach "Bazball" which England have adopted in the Brendon McCullum-Ben Stokes regime, the Indian ace stated that he does not really relate to the term and pointed out that it will help him as a bowler.

"I don’t really relate to the term Bazball. But they are playing successful cricket and the aggressive route of taking the opposition on, showing the world there’s another way to play Test cricket.

"As a bowler, what I think is that it keeps me in play. And if they’re going for it, playing so fast, they won’t tire me out, I could get heaps of wickets. I always think about how I can use things to my advantage. Kudos to them but, as a bowler, you're in the game," he said.

The series, which is a part of the ICC World Test Championship, provides India with the chance to go to the top of the standings. They are currently placed below Australia with two wins and a draw in four Tests.

Having lost only three Test matches at home in the past decade, India are favourites to seal a series victory against the touring England side.
