London, July 12 – Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah delivered a stellar performance on Day 2 of the third Test against England at Lord’s, taking five crucial wickets in the first innings and earning a place on the prestigious Lord’s Honours Board. Bumrah attributed his success to the learnings from India’s previous tour of England, highlighting how changes in his approach helped him this time around.

Bumrah dismissed key English batsmen including Ben Stokes (44), centurion Joe Root (104), Chris Woakes (0), and Brydon Carse, after removing Jofra Archer earlier. His spell helped bowl England out for 387 runs. Bumrah bowled a total of 27 overs, conceding 74 runs for his five wickets.

Mullanpur, April 19 - Following an intense match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Mumbai Indians' (MI) fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah described the game as much closer than anticipated by his team.

Bumrah's and Gerald Coetzee's stellar bowling performances led Mumbai Indians to a thrilling 9-run victory over Punjab Kings in the 33rd match of IPL 2024 at the Maharaja Yadvendra Singh International Cricket Stadium.

After the match, Bumrah commented, "It was a much closer match than we thought. We wanted to make an impact early on. In this format, the ball swings for two overs and you want to take advantage of it. It's a bit difficult for the bowlers in this format. All you can do is prepare your best and give your best, and that's what I try to do."

Batting first, Mumbai Indians scored 192 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to a splendid half-century by Suryakumar Yadav (78 runs off 53 balls, 7 fours, 3 sixes) and valuable contributions from Rohit Sharma (36) and Tilak Verma (34 not out). New Delhi, Feb 11 (IANS) Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin lavished rich praise on fast-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for being the ‘real show stealer’ for his sensational match haul of nine wickets in the 106-run win over England in the second Test at Visakhapatnam.

Bumrah’s nine-wicket match haul, which included a brilliant 6/45 in the first innings at Visakhapatnam, helped India beat England by 106 runs to level the five-game series at 1-1, with the next match to begin at Rajkot on February 15.

Days after being given Player of the Match award and becoming the fastest Indian bowler to reach 150 wickets in the format, Bumrah became the first fast-bowler from the country to be at top of the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings.

"The real show stealer is BoomBall. We saw a little of Jaisball also. Jasprit Bumrah has bowled extraordinarily. He is the leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets and also the No.1 ranked Test bowler. I am a huge fan of his and this is a Himalayan feat," said Ashwin on his YouTube channel.

He also praised young batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, who scored 209 and 104 respectively in the Visakhapatnam Test. "Yashasvi Jaiswal has shown enormous growth. He scored a double-century. In fact, he came down and hit James Anderson towards the extra covers and got out after a double century. There's no doubt about the amount of talent that Shubman Gill has. But the hundred justified just the kind of armor he had as a batter."

Ashwin, who is one wicket from reaching the remarkable feat of 500 scalps in the format, further stated why the hosts’ don't have any real home advantage. "There’s never been a marquee Test series like this in five such venues before. In 2017, we played Tests against Australia in Ranchi and Dharamshala.

"However, in that series, the other venues were Pune and Bangalore. Usually, if there are 4-5 match Test series, at least one or two happen in metro cities. Unlike that, this time, it’s happening in venues that weren’t a part of the World Cup matches. For most Indian players themselves, these venues are new," he said.

"There are a lot of players playing in our own team who have not played a test match or a first-class in the Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy Cricket Stadium. I am not sure if this is possible in any other country. In India, it is possible because there are so many Test venues here.

"If you take the case of England, in this Test series, Tom Hartley made his debut. If Tom Hartley and Rehan Ahmed are playing a Test match in England, they can never say I’ve not played in Lancashire ground or Worcestershire ground. In fact, the matches never happen in Worcestershire.

"They cannot say that they have never played in Surrey Oval because they would have played. Not just the county matches, but even the Test matches there happen in these venues. But in India, because there are so many venues, even for Indian players it’s the first time they are playing a test or even a first-class match in these venues.

"So the home familiarity has gone missing in these cases. Of course, they would have played IPL, T20 or ODI matches here and there. But in playing red ball in a longer format, the familiarity really makes a difference," Ashwin concluded.

Visakhapatnam, Feb 3 (IANS) India bowler Jasprit Bumrah on Saturday etched his name in history, becoming the fastest Indian fast bowler to reach the milestone of 150 wickets. The ace pacer achieved this feat in just 34 games, surpassing the legendary Kapil Dev, who took 39 matches to achieve the same milestone.

Waqar Younis remains the quickest bowler, achieving this milestone in just his 27th Test.

While Erapalli Prasanna and Anil Kumble also took 34 Tests apiece to get the mark among the spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin (29) and Ravindra Jadeja (32) are the only Indians to reach the milestone faster than Bumrah.

Bumrah's remarkable journey places him in elite company, with only a select few bowlers globally reaching 150 Test wickets in fewer matches.

In his 16th home Test, Bumrah has showcased his prowess with an astonishing tally of 24 wickets at an average of 14-plus. This includes a notable five-wicket haul (5-24) that underlines his impact on home soil. Against England, Bumrah has notched up 50 Test wickets, maintaining an impressive average of 22-plus, a testament to his effectiveness against the formidable opposition.

New Delhi, Jan 23 (IANS) India ace fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah expressed that to his generation of players, "Test cricket is King" and credited red-ball format for developing his "skills and art of taking wickets", adding that "Test cricket will find a way" to survive in the future as the format is currently struggling in front of a congested cricketing calendar.

"I am of that generation where Test cricket is king. I will always judge myself on it. Yes I started with IPL but I learned to bowl through first-class cricket; that’s where I developed my skill, the art of taking wickets. In Test cricket you have to get the batsman out and that challenges you as a bowler," Bumrah told The Guardian.

"T20s, ODIs, some days you might send down five slower balls and get five guys out, when in a Test match they wouldn’t have taken one. There is no luck in Test cricket, the better team wins, you cannot take 20 wickets through luck. I was never happy with just white-ball cricket and Test cricket is still the utmost format for me.

“I don't know how the youngsters look at it. But Test cricket has been around this long, it will find a way. Every format has its place – too much Test cricket would be boring, too much white ball the same. I think the sport needs a little bit of everything, rather than an overdose of one format or the other," he added.

Bumrah is the most experienced member of India's pace pack that will line-up for the first of five Tests against England in Hyderabad starting January 25.

Speaking of aggressive approach "Bazball" which England have adopted in the Brendon McCullum-Ben Stokes regime, the Indian ace stated that he does not really relate to the term and pointed out that it will help him as a bowler.

"I don’t really relate to the term Bazball. But they are playing successful cricket and the aggressive route of taking the opposition on, showing the world there’s another way to play Test cricket.

"As a bowler, what I think is that it keeps me in play. And if they’re going for it, playing so fast, they won’t tire me out, I could get heaps of wickets. I always think about how I can use things to my advantage. Kudos to them but, as a bowler, you're in the game," he said.

The series, which is a part of the ICC World Test Championship, provides India with the chance to go to the top of the standings. They are currently placed below Australia with two wins and a draw in four Tests.

Having lost only three Test matches at home in the past decade, India are favourites to seal a series victory against the touring England side.

New Delhi, Sep 4 (IANS) Indian ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah and his wife Sanjana Ganesan have welcomed a baby boy, with the fast bowler sharing the joyful announcement on social media.

Bumrah announced the news of the birth of the baby boy on Instagram, sharing a wholesome picture.

"Our little family has grown & our hearts are fuller than we could ever imagine! This morning we welcomed our little boy, Angad Jasprit Bumrah into the world. We are over the moon and can't wait for everything this new chapter of our lives brings with it," he captioned the post on Instagram.

The 29-year-old took leave from the ongoing Asia Cup on Sunday and had returned to Mumbai for the birth of his first child.

Bumrah is expected to return to Sri Lanka after a few days and will be available for the Group 4 stage matches.

India will play their Super 4 game after a few days’ break in Sri Lanka.
