Jaipur, December 20 – A catastrophic accident in Jaipur's Bhankrota area early Friday morning resulted in a devastating fire after an LPG tanker collided with a truck, engulfing over 30 vehicles in flames. The tragedy claimed the lives of eight people, including two children, and left 35 others injured, with many in critical condition, officials confirmed.

Prime Minister, President Condole Actions

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh for each victim’s family and ₹50,000 for the injured from the PM's National Relief Fund. President Droupadi Murmu also extended her grief, praying for the victims and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

Details of the Incident

The accident occurred around 5:45 AM on the Jaipur-Ajmer National Highway when a speeding truck rammed into the LPG tanker near Bhankrota. The collision caused the tanker's valve to break, leading to a massive gas leak and a subsequent explosion that engulfed the surrounding vehicles, including two buses and over 29 trucks.

Video footage from the scene showed people fleeing for their lives, with some attempting to extinguish flames on their burning clothes. The fire was so intense that it turned the highway into a raging inferno, with smoke visible from over a kilometer away.

Casualties and Injuries

Medical officials reported eight deaths due to severe burns and suffocation from the dense smoke, which transformed the area into a "gas chamber." Thirty-five injured individuals, some critically burned, are receiving treatment at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital, where additional wards have been opened to handle the emergency.

Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar confirmed that nearly half of the injured are on ventilators. “The situation is critical, and all medical personnel have been mobilized to provide urgent care,” he said.

Rescue and Relief Efforts

More than 25 ambulances rushed to the scene, transporting victims to nearby hospitals. The fire brigade, initially unable to access the burning vehicles, eventually brought the blaze under control after several hours. Three petrol pumps in the vicinity narrowly escaped damage.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma visited the site and later met the injured at SMS Hospital. He assured the public of a thorough investigation and promised strict measures to prevent such incidents in the future. “This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are taking all necessary steps to support the victims and their families,” he said.

Traffic Disruption and Environmental Impact

The fire severely impacted a 300-meter stretch of the highway, causing traffic congestion for hours. Witnesses reported burning debris scattered across the road, and the heat melted nearby factory pipes, causing further damage.

Environmental concerns were raised as several birds were found dead in the vicinity, and residents complained of irritation in their eyes and breathing difficulties due to the thick smoke.

Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph stated that preliminary investigations revealed the fire started due to a gas leak caused by the tanker's broken nozzle. Forensic experts have collected evidence, and a team from the Regional Transport Office is examining the vehicles involved.

Jaipur, November 21: Winter is tightening its grip across Rajasthan, with Mount Abu recording a freezing temperature of 0 degrees Celsius. Nine cities in the state reported nighttime temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius, while six cities experienced temperatures under 11 degrees. Cities like Ajmer, Banasthali, Alwar, Pilani, Chittorgarh, and Anta Baran also reported nighttime temperatures below 11°C. On the warmer side, Jaisalmer recorded the highest daytime temperature of 31.5°C, while Phalodi had the warmest night at 16°C.

In Jaipur, the minimum temperature continued to drop, registering a decline of 0.9°C to settle at 12.7°C, while the maximum temperature stood at 27.6°C. Mild fog was observed in rural areas around Jaipur during the early hours. Light winds persisted throughout the day.

As the winter season intensifies, Jaipur's air quality is deteriorating rapidly. The city's Air Quality Index (AQI) hovered near 300, with some areas entering the "red zone." Mansarovar recorded an AQI of 332, Sitapura RIICO 323, Adarsh Nagar 227, Police Commissionerate 267, Murlipura 239, and Shastri Nagar 261. Despite efforts by the municipal corporation to mitigate pollution, the air quality remains concerning. In some areas, such as Khairthal, schools have been closed due to severe air pollution.

The police headquarters has directed officers to prevent stubble burning in their respective areas, with strict action promised against any negligence. A devastating fire ripped through a house in Jaipur, Rajasthan, on Thursday morning, claiming the lives of five family members. The tragedy unfolded in the Vishwakarma police station area around 7:30 am when a gas leak from a faulty pipe ignited a fire while the family prepared breakfast.

Rajesh (26), his wife Ruby (24), and their three children - Ishu (7), Dilkhush (2), and Khushmani (4) - were all victims of the blaze. The family, originally from Madhubani, Bihar, had been residing in the rented Jaipur home for approximately 4-5 months. They had just returned the previous evening after a short leave in their hometown.

According to initial reports, Ruby was preparing tea and breakfast when a rapid gas leak from the pipe engulfed the room in flames. Rajesh, who was present at the time, initially managed to escape the house. However, in a selfless act, he rushed back inside to try and save his wife and children.

The commotion alerted nearby residents who rushed to the scene. Unfortunately, the quick-spreading fire and the position of the gas cylinder and stove near the room's entrance prevented anyone from entering or escaping. The fire brigade eventually brought the blaze under control, but it was too late for the family.

Upon arriving at the scene, police recovered the bodies and secured the area for forensic examination. Jaipur Collector, SDM, Police Commissioner, and other local authorities offered their condolences to the bereaved family.
