Ashwin, visibly content with his decision, expressed no regret over his retirement and looked forward to exploring new avenues.

Warm Reception at Chennai Airport

The 38-year-old cricketer, who has taken 765 international wickets across formats, was greeted with flowers, cheers, and music at the Chennai International Airport. Tamil Nadu Cricket Association officials escorted him out of the airport, where his wife, Prithi, and their two daughters awaited him.

After arriving home, Ashwin sought blessings from his parents and briefly interacted with journalists. Speaking about his retirement, he said, “For many, it might be emotional and difficult to digest, but for me, it is a moment of relief and satisfaction. I had been considering this for some time, and on the fourth day of the Brisbane Test, I knew it was time to make the announcement.”

No Regrets About Career Decisions

When asked if he regretted not captaining the national team, Ashwin dismissed the notion. “I don’t have even an ounce of regret. Life is about moving forward, and I’ve never looked back with disappointment,” he affirmed.

Ashwin reflected on his career highs and lows, stating, “Typically, I would go to bed thinking about my performances, like taking wickets or scoring runs. But over the past two years, those thoughts stopped. That was a clear sign for me to take a different path.”

Future Plans

Ashwin clarified that while he will no longer play international cricket, he plans to continue in domestic leagues, including the Indian Premier League (IPL). “I’ll be representing Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming IPL season,” he confirmed.

He also mentioned a desire to take some time off before setting new goals. “I haven’t decided on my next steps yet. For now, I just want to rest and adapt to this new phase of life.”

Achievements and Legacy

Ashwin ends his illustrious international career as one of India’s most successful bowlers. In 106 Tests, he claimed 537 wickets, making him the second-highest wicket-taker for India in the format, after Anil Kumble (619). Ashwin also took 156 wickets in 113 ODIs and 72 wickets in 65 T20Is.

Making his debut in 2010 in ODIs, Ashwin transitioned to Tests the following year and quickly became a key player for India. Known for his sharp cricketing mind and exceptional skills, he played a vital role in several of India’s victories across formats.

A Hero’s Farewell

As Ashwin returned home, fans and well-wishers celebrated his remarkable career, highlighting his contributions to Indian cricket. Ashwin, visibly touched, said, “I didn’t expect such a warm welcome. This reminds me of the 2011 World Cup celebrations. It’s been a journey full of ups and downs, but I feel fulfilled.”

Ashwin’s departure marks the end of an era for Indian cricket, but his legacy as a master of spin and a true cricketing intellect will continue to inspire generations.

Tamil Nadu state archaeology department's move is part of a statewide exercise to ensure safety and splendour of archeological marvels of earlier era, and according to information available, 26 hillock monuments are set to be declared as protected sites.

The state government had in 1990 declared the hilltop of Kazhugumalai, consisting of monuments of Vettuvan Koil and a Jain adobe, spread across 3,585 square metres, as a protected site.

According to earlier notification, 100 metres from the protected monument and a further 200 metres near the site were declared as a regulated area for either mining operations or construction respectively, under rule 33 of the Tamil Nadu Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Rules, 1971. However, now the state archeology department is to announce the entire 21 hectares of hillock as part of the protected monument.

As per the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act (AMASR Act), as per the Industries, Investment Promotion & Commerce Department notification, no license will be granted for quarrying within a 300 meters radius from the boundaries of the archaeological site or remains.

The 25-hour countdown for the launch of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle-DL (PSLV-DL) carrying the XPoSat and 10 other scientific payloads began on Sunday at 8.10 a.m. and is progressing smoothly, officials of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) told IANS.

At 9.10 a.m. the Indian rocket PSLV-DL variant with the code PSLV-C58, standing 44.4 metre tall and weighing 260 ton, will blast off from the first launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh with XPoSat and 10 scientific payloads fixed to the PSLV Orbital Platform.

At about 21 minutes into its flight, the rocket will orbit XPoSat at an altitude of about 650 km.

Subsequently, the rocket’s fourth stage will be restarted twice to reduce the orbit into a 350 km circular orbit to maintain in 3-axis stabilised mode for Orbital Platform (OP) experiments.

The PSLV Orbital Experimental Module-3 (POEM-3) experiment will be executed, meeting the objective of 10 identified payloads, supplied by the ISRO and the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), the Indian space agency said.

its normal configuration, the PSLV is a four-stage/engine expendable rocket powered by solid and liquid fuels, alternatively, with six booster motors strapped onto the first stage to give higher thrust during the initial flight moments.

The ISRO has five types of PSLV rockets – Standard, Core Alone, XL, DL, and QL.

The major difference between them is the use of strap-on boosters which, in turn, largely depends on the weight of the satellites to be orbited.

The PSLV uses 6,4,2 solid rocket strap-on motors to augment the thrust provided by the first stage in PSLV-XL, QL & DL variants, respectively. However, strap-ons are not used in the core-alone version (PSLV-CA).

The XPoSat is the first dedicated scientific satellite from the ISRO to carry out research in space-based polarisation measurements of X-ray emission from celestial sources. The satellite configuration is modified from the IMS-2 bus platform. The configuration of the mainframe systems is derived based on the heritage of IRS satellites. It carries two payloads, namely POLIX (Polarimeter Instrument in X-rays) and XSPECT (X-ray Spectroscopy and Timing).

The POLIX is realised by the Raman Research Institute and XSPECT is by the Space Astronomy Group of the U.R. Rao Satellite Centre (URSC).

According to the ISRO, the three objectives of XPoSat are: (a) To measure polarisation of X-rays in the energy band 8-30keV emanating from about 50 potential cosmic sources through Thomson Scattering by POLIX payload. (b) To carry out long-term spectral and temporal studies of cosmic X-ray sources in the energy band 0.8-15keV by XSPECT payload and (c) To carry out polarisation and spectroscopic measurements of X-ray emissions from cosmic sources by POLIX and XSPECT payloads, respectively, in the common energy band.

After orbiting the XPoSat in 650km, the rocket’s fourth stage - PS4 stage - will be lowered to 350km, about 9.6 deg orbit, by restarting it twice. The left-out propellant in the PS4 will be disposed of through the main engines as a precursor to enabling the safety of the PS4 stage in atmosphere re-entry experiments planned in future.

The oxidiser will be let out first followed by fuel in a predetermined sequence of operations. The existing scheme of spent stage passivation by venting the tank pressure will also be active. Post passivation of PS4, the control of the stage is transferred to the POEM Avionics, the ISRO said.

The POEM is PS4 stage is configured as a 3-axis stabilised orbital platform for conducting experiments to space qualify systems with novel ideas. The PS4 Stage Orbital Platform Electrical power requirements are catered by a Flexible Solar Panel in conjunction with 50Ah Li-Ion battery in battery tied configuration.

The orbital platform consists of avionic systems to take care of navigation, guidance, control and telecommands and Orbital Platform Attitude Control System to cater to control of the platform to test the payloads, the ISRO said. The 10 payloads are from TakeMe2Space, LBS Institute Technology for Women, K J Somaiya Institute of Technology, Inspecity Space Labs Private Ltd, Dhruva Space Private Ltd, Bellatrix Aerospace Private Ltd (two payloads) and three payloads from the ISRO.

Highly placed sources in the MNM told IANS that the DMK is interested in allocating the Coimbatore seat to Kamal Haasan as he had performed extremely well in the 2021 Assembly polls losing to BJP's Vanathi Sreenivasan by a slender margin of 1,728 votes.

Kamal Haasan on Sunday inaugurated a state-level reach-out campaign of the MNM, 'Makkalodu Maiam' in the Coimbatore South Assembly constituency.

The MNM is planning to meet people in all the 234 Assembly constituencies of Tamil Nadu with the party leaders and cadres meeting people at the ward and panchayat level on the difficulties faced by them. This includes the issues overlooked by people's representatives in their respective constituencies.

The MNM, according to a senior leader of the party, would chalk out its election manifesto based on the feedback from the people at the grassroots levels.

The party leadership said that each ward secretary is given a list of 25 binary questions on basic amenities in their area in a Google Form and the feedback will be used to get a clearer picture on each constituency.

Sources in the MNM told IANS that the party Coimbatore district functionaries have already appealed to the Tamil superstar to contest from Coimbatore seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

It may be noted that Kamal Haasan had recently gifted a car to Sharmila, a Tamil Nadu bus driver who was ousted from job following a controversy of DMK leader Kanimozhi boarding the bus driven by her. Sharmila entered into a verbal duel with the conductor of the bus who asked for the ticket fare from Kanimozhi. This led to the owner of the bus dismissing Sharmila. Kamal Haasan invited her to his Chennai home and handed over her a new car which she can drive for a living.

This gesture of Kamal gifting a car to Sharmila, who is based out of Coimbatore, is also seen as a move by the Tamil superstar to garner popularity in the area.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 29: In a successful endeavour to protect our marine ecosystems and raise awareness about proper waste management, a Beach Cleanup Activity was recently organized by Fybros at the Ashtalakshmi Temple Beach, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The objective of the Beach Cleanup Activity was two-fold. Firstly, it aimed to safeguard marine ecology by reducing the amount of garbage dumped into these fragile ecosystems. Secondly, the activity had a profound psychological effect on the participants, sensitizing them to the harmful effects of improper waste management and excessive use of plastic.

The event witnessed a tremendous response from around 150 volunteers who dedicated their time and efforts to make a positive impact on the environment. Over 800 kilos of plastic, glass, and paper waste were collected during the cleanup. The volunteers diligently segregated the waste into basic categories and handed it to the corporation officials for further recycling and safe disposal.

Volunteers’ participation gave them a ground-level understanding of the alarming volume of wastage in our water bodies. Witnessing the reality of the situation instilled a sense of self-satisfaction and environmental awareness among the participants. They now hold a deeper understanding of the damaging impact of human activities on nature and its inhabitants.

The community around the water body expressed their appreciation for the impactful initiative, recognizing the positive change it brought about. Additionally, the local corporation applauded Fybros and the volunteers’ efforts, acknowledging the importance of such initiatives in maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment for all.

The activity was done in collaboration with Environmentalist Foundation of India and it fostered a connection with nature and its current condition, inspiring individuals to take further action in their capacity.

Fybros remains committed to its mission of environmental conservation and will continue to organize such activities in the future. We can create a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable world by working together.

Justice N Anand Venkatesh made the ruling while disposing of the petition filed by Muthu Subramania Gurukal in 2018 challenging a notification issued by the Executive Officer of the Sri Sugavaneswarar Swamy temple in Salem during that year calling up applications for filling up the post of archakar/sthanigar.

The petitioner had appealed that appointments must be made only on the base of Agama Sastra followed by the temple.

The Madras High Court constituted a committee headed by its retired judge, Justice M. Chockalingam to identify Agamic and non-Agamic temples in Tamil Nadu.

As questions were asked whether the appointments of priests in temples should be deferred until the committee submitted its report, the court said that there would be no impediment for temple trustees and fit persons appointed by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department to appoint the priests even before the submission of the report.
