In May last year, Invesco slashed Swiggy's valuation in its holding to about $5.5 billion.

In November, Swiggy's investor Prosus, in its financial filing, stated that Swiggy’s core food-delivery business grew 17 per cent and delivered gross merchandise value (GMV) of $1.43 billion in the first half of FY24.

"This was led by a rise in transacting users that drove double-digit order growth and inflation in AOV," Prosus said.

Prosus, which holds 32.7 per cent of the stake in Swiggy, mentioned trading losses reduced to $208 million.

The company further said that the quick-commerce business made rapid strides as customer adoption drove order growth.

Basket sizes grew well ahead of inflation. In the last 12 months, Swiggy has facilitated the disbursement of loans worth Rs 102 crore, of which Rs 10.1 crore was disbursed in November alone.

Swiggy's losses for the entire FY23 amounted to approximately $545 million, representing an 80 per cent increase compared to around $300 million in FY22.

“10,916 and 8,504 units of blue lay's (chips) and green lay's were ordered respectively today. Of course blue is winning here as well,” Swiggy posted on X.

The company further added: “3,509 condoms ordered, some players are playing off the pitch today”.

India bowled out Pakistan for just 191 in the highly-anticipated clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in front of more than 1,00,000 fans, and then, easily cruised to a seven-wicket victory.

Bowling first on a slow pitch with variable bounce, India were on the backfoot as Pakistan were cruising at 155-2 with captain Babar Azam getting his fifty and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan nearing his half-century. But Azam falling to Mohammed Siraj sparked a Pakistan batting implosion as they lost eight wickets for just 36 runs in their next 13 overs, ending up at 191 in 42.5 overs. Such was the innings that no batter was able to hit a six and Nasser Hussain on air said "a collapse only Pakistan team can manufacture".

Living up to its legacy as the biryani capital of the country, Hyderabad ordered a whopping 10 lakh biryanis on Swiggy this Ramzan. This is 20 per cent higher than the same period last year.

Haleem, a Ramzan special dish, saw over 4,00,000 orders placed for more than nine variants, including chicken, palamuru pottel, Persian Special haleem and dry fruit haleem. Mutton Haleem was the city's favourite variant.

Festive specials like Malpua, Firni and Rabdi saw a 20 per cent increase in orders.

Crispy and piping hot samosas and bhajiyas were the favourite for Iftar or breaking the fast. The most popular Iftar items included samosas and bhajia along with dishes made from dates. There was a whopping 77 per cent increase in orders for bhajiyas.

The findings were based on an analysis of orders placed on Swiggy from March 23 to April 18.

Restaurants such as Pista House Haleem, Paradise Biryani, and Mehfil emerged as Hyderabad's favourites during Iftar. Swiggy has also launched an innovative OOH campaign with an LED billboard to celebrate Ramzan's festivities. The billboards with a Haleem handi on a burner have been mounted at Secunderabad and Tolichowki locations in the city of Hyderabad.

Consumers turned to Instamart for the quick delivery of iftar necessities which included dates and other dry fruits to break their fasts. There were close to half a million orders placed for dry fruits and dates this Ramzan with a significant increase in the number of orders placed just for dates.

A Swiggy spokesperson told IANS that their delivery executives are being wrongly issued challans despite the notification being applicable only to bike taxi service providers.

"Some challans that have been issued to our delivery executives are in excess of Rs 15,000," said the company spokesperson.

This has "created fear and apprehension among our delivery executives", who are crucial in ensuring that our customers receive their orders on time.

A Zomato spokesperson told IANS that "while the notice is only for passenger vehicles, there is some misinterpretation on the ground".

In a letter sent to the Delhi government's transport department and seen by IANS, Dinker Vashisht, Group Vice President, Public Policy, Regulatory and Sustainability at Swiggy, wrote that the directions have been misinterpreted by Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials, who have started issuing challans to delivery partners.

"This has led to disruption of services, and confusion among the delivery partners, who are now apprehensive of providing their service with a fear of being penalised and harassed while on duty," Vashisht said, urging the Delhi government to intervene and give an assurance to delivery partners and last-mile delivery aggregators.

"Ensuring that our delivery executives can operate smoothly and serve our customers without any interruptions is our top priority," said the company.

Last week, ride-hailing major Uber asked the Delhi government to create a level-playing field for two-wheeler mobility rides for commuters.

The company said that different electrification mandates for ridesharing and delivery sectors, not only leads to inequitable sharing of responsibility but "seriously disadvantages the entire industry".

Carrying passengers on bike taxis bearing private registration numbers has been made a punishable offence and may attract fines up to Rs 10,000, according to a circular issued by the Transport Department of Delhi government.

Delhi uses two-wheelers across ridesharing platforms, accounting for estimated 20 lakh trips every month.

In 2022, over 19 lakh trips took place to and from metro stations in NCR on Uber Moto, underscoring the need-gap bike taxis to fill in solving the last-mile commute.
