New Delhi, 12 July (H.S.): The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a money laundering case related to the Delhi liquor policy.

Kejriwal, who has been in jail for over 90 days, was granted bail. However, he will remain in jail as he is currently being questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation in a separate case related to the same excise policy issue. The court found no illegality in Kejriwal's arrest by the Enforcement Directorate but granted him bail considering his custody duration.

New Delhi, 10 July (H.S.): The Delhi High Court has listed for July 15 the Enforcement Directorate's plea challenging the bail granted to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the money laundering case related to the alleged excise scam.

The court had earlier stayed the trial court's order which had granted bail to Kejriwal. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, who was supposed to hear the plea, was informed by the ED's counsel that they were served with Kejriwal's reply late on Tuesday night and required more time to file a rejoinder. Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, requested for a specific time for the hearing due to the urgency of the case. However, the ED's lawyer stated that they were served with the reply at 11 PM on Tuesday and needed time to go through it. The court granted time for the ED to file its rejoinder and listed the matter for hearing on July 15.

On June 20, Kejriwal was granted bail by a trial court on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh, which led to the ED's plea in the high court. The court acknowledged that the ED was entitled to file a rejoinder and granted them time to do so.

New Delhi, June 26 (HS): Jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has withdrawn the petition filed against the order of the Delhi High Court from the Supreme Court. The petition has been withdrawn by Kejriwal to challenge it again on new grounds. The court allowed Kejriwal to withdraw the petition.

The court again allowed Kejriwal to file a new petition against the decision of the Delhi High Court of June 25. During the hearing, the ED also did not object to Kejriwal withdrawing the petition.

On June 25, the Delhi High Court stayed the bail order granted to Kejriwal by the trial court. The High Court said that the order of the trial court is not correct. It should have looked at all the documents. The court said that the trial court should give the ED ample opportunity to present arguments. The High Court said that the trial court has not followed the two conditions of Section 45 of the Money Laundering Act.

The High Court said that the trial court did not take the earlier orders of the Supreme Court correctly. The High Court said that the interim bail granted to Kejriwal by the Supreme Court was for election campaigning. In such a situation, that order cannot be cited for personal freedom.

On June 24, the Supreme Court had deferred the hearing on the petition filed by Kejriwal against the High Court's order of interim stay on the bail order. During the hearing, the Supreme Court expressed surprise that the High Court reserved the decision on the demand for stay on bail, while the order is passed at the same time on the demand for stay on bail.

The High Court had reserved the decision on June 21. During the hearing, the ED had said that the entire order of the trial court is wrong. According to the ED, the trial court did not consider the arguments and evidence of the ED at all and did not give a decision according to the law. The ED had said that the evidence collected against Arvind Kejriwal after 2023 was not considered and the decision was given. The ED had said that it ordered bail to Kejriwal ignoring the statements of 13 Aam Aadmi Party workers and officials of Angadia, Goa.

The ED had said that the condition of section 45 of the Money Laundering Act was violated by not giving it adequate opportunity to oppose the bail during the hearing in the trial court. On June 24, the Supreme Court had deferred the hearing till June 26 on the petition filed by Kejriwal against the High Court's order to put an interim stay on the trial court's bail order.

New Delhi, June 24 (HS)" The Supreme Court has not given any relief to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in jail for the Delhi Excise Scam case. Vacation Bench headed by Justice Manoj Mishra ordered next hearing on June 26 on the petition challenging interim stay on bail granted by trial court. The apex said that in the meantime if Delhi High Court passes its order then it should be filed in Supreme Court.

During the hearing, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi on behalf of Kejriwal said that stay on bail from High Court is unprecedented, this has not happened till date. Singhvi while giving his argument said that if his bail is cancelled by High Court then he will definitely go back to jail. Singhvi said that suppose High Court rejects the ED's petition then in that situation how can the days spent in jail without reason be compensated.

Justice Manoj Mishra said that the High Court is likely to issue an order on this matter in a day or two. On this, Singhvi said that after the verdict in favour of Kejriwal from the trial court, why can't he be released on an interim basis? Then Justice Mishra said that if "we pass any order now, then we will give the verdict on the matter before the High Court."

Singhvi said that the High Court passed a stay order on this matter at 10:30 in the morning without giving any reason. "We have presented those 10 decisions in the High Court, in which it is said that once bail is granted, it cannot be stopped without special reasons." He said that if the High Court can give a stay order without seeing the bail order, then why can't the Supreme Court do it, the Supreme Court can also do it. Then Justice Manoj Mishra said that if the High Court has done something wrong, "will we also do something wrong".

Rouse Avenue Court had granted regular bail to Arvind Kejriwal on June 20. When the decision on Kejriwal's bail was being announced, ED's lawyer Zoheb Hussain had requested the Rouse Avenue Court to give him 48 hours to fill the bail bond so that he could challenge this order in Delhi High Court, but the Rouse Avenue Court rejected this request. On this, ED challenged the bail order granted by the trial court in Delhi High Court on 21 June. The High Court had put an interim stay on the bail order of the trial court till the decision was given even before hearing the arguments of both the parties on the ED's petition.

Delhi, May 18 (HS): Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's personal secretary Vibhav Kumar was arrested by Delhi Police on Saturday in connection with the assault on Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal. After arresting Vibhav, the police took him to Civil Lines police station.

Vibhav Kumar's lawyer Karan Sharma said that no information has been received from the police yet. We have sent them an e-mail that we will cooperate in the investigation.

The medical report has confirmed that Swati Maliwal has been injured. His medical report has come out in this regard. Injuries were found on the right cheek and left leg.

A CCTV footage has surfaced in the case of assault that took place at the Chief Minister's residence on May 13. In the footage, security personnel are seen taking Swati out of the Chief Minister's residence. After releasing this footage, Aam Aadmi Party has again raised questions on Swati Maliwal's statements.

Now the party says that in reality BJP's Anti Corruption Bureau has registered a case against Swati Maliwal for illegal recruitment of contractual employees in DCW. Swati has done this due to fear of action in the case. Meanwhile, in another development, MP Raghav Chadha today reached Chief Minister Kejriwal to meet him at his Civil Line residence.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was released from Tihar Jail on Friday after receiving interim bail from the Supreme Court. He expressed gratitude to the court and outlined his plans for the coming days.

New Delhi, 23 April - Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, currently lodged in Tihar Jail, received insulin treatment last evening, according to sources. The jail administration has not issued an official statement regarding this development. However, reports suggest that Kejriwal received insulin for the first time, with his sugar levels reportedly reaching 217.

The issue of Kejriwal's health has been a point of contention between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for several days. The AAP, through its official Twitter handle, confirmed that the Chief Minister was given insulin in jail, indicating that it was a much-needed intervention.

The sequence of events leading to the insulin administration began when Kejriwal complained of health issues to the jail authorities. After an examination by jail doctors, his sugar levels were found to be high, prompting the administration to administer insulin just before his meal at seven o'clock.

Reacting to the development, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj expressed relief over the news, highlighting the necessity of the treatment. He questioned why the Chief Minister had to approach the court for such basic medical care, suggesting that it raises concerns about the treatment of prisoners in Tihar Jail.

In response, BJP leaders and officials under the central government defended the jail administration's actions, stating that all prisoners are treated equally. They posed a rhetorical question, asking if all prisoners in Tihar Jail have to seek court intervention for medical treatment like insulin.

New Delhi, 02 April - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, citing moral grounds amidst his ongoing legal troubles.

During a press conference on Tuesday, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia criticized Kejriwal's conduct, stating that his repeated appearances in court (nine times) warranted his resignation. Bhatia highlighted past instances where resignations were demanded from other party members, such as when Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain faced legal issues.

Bhatia questioned the double standards in politics, stating, "Now that Arvind Kejriwal himself has gone to jail, he is talking about running the government from jail. Why are there double standards today? He should also have resigned." He emphasized the importance of upholding democratic values and respecting the Constitution.

Regarding Kejriwal's legal issues, Bhatia mentioned a recent case where the Delhi High Court denied him bail and suggested his involvement in a liquor scam. Bhatia expressed that the citizens of Delhi are increasingly dissatisfied with what they perceive as rampant corruption.

He also criticized Kejriwal's earlier promises, recalling his pledge to resign if accused of corruption and his commitment to frugal governance. Bhatia remarked, "Kejriwal had said that he will not take security, he will not take a car or bungalow but you have built Sheesh Mahal."

Bhatia concluded by referencing the Prime Minister's pledge to hold corrupt individuals accountable, emphasizing that Kejriwal should not be an exception.

New Delhi, March 22 - Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, arrested in connection with the Delhi Excise Scam case, has been remanded to 10 days of Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody by Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court. The ED had sought Kejriwal's custody for questioning in the case.

During the hearing, Assistant Solicitor General SV Raju, representing the ED, alleged that Kejriwal was the mastermind behind the liquor policy scam and had been involved in spying on ED officials. Raju claimed that documents seized during a raid at Kejriwal's residence indicated his involvement in bribery, with Vijay Nair acting as a mediator between the South Group and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Raju further stated that Kejriwal, as the national coordinator of the AAP, had orchestrated changes in the excise policy to fund the party's electoral campaign in Goa. He argued that Kejriwal's custodial interrogation was necessary to probe the financial transactions linked to the case.

Responding to the ED's allegations, senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, argued that the detention must satisfy the provisions of Section 19 of the Money Laundering Act. Singhvi contended that the ED's application for custody lacked substantial grounds and was primarily a replication of the reasons for arrest.

Kejriwal's arrest came after the Delhi High Court declined to provide him protection from arrest on March 21. The ED arrested Kejriwal following interrogation on the same evening. The case has generated significant attention, with political implications given Kejriwal's position as the Chief Minister of Delhi.

New Delhi, February 22: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for the seventh time in connection with the alleged irregularities in the city's excise policy. He is expected to appear before the agency for questioning on Monday.

This marks the seventh time the ED has summoned Kejriwal in this case. He has not responded to previous summonses issued on November 2nd, December 21st, January 3rd, January 18th, and February 2nd of this year.

The investigation pertains to alleged manipulation of Delhi's liquor policy, leading to the arrests of former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh.

As of now, there has been no official response from either the Chief Minister's office or the Aam Aadmi Party regarding the latest summons.

This development further escalates the ongoing political tussle between the AAP government and the central investigative agencies.

New Delhi, Feb 19 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday again skipped the Enforcement Directorate summons in connection with the alleged excise policy scam.

This is the sixth time Kejriwal has skipped the summons.

According to sources, he has termed the summons unconstitutional even as currently the validity of appearing before the ED is under the scrutiny of the court.

"Interestingly, the ED has taken the initiative to bring this matter to court themselves. Rather than persistently issuing summons, it is suggested that the ED await the court's decision, thus allowing due legal process to unfold," said the AAP sources.

Earlier, the ED on January 31, had issued summons to Kejriwal, and he was told to appear before it on February 2. That was the fifth summons issued to the AAP Convenor.

The financial probe agency's complaint alleged that Kejriwal intentionally did not want to obey the summons and kept on giving “lame excuses.”

"If a high-ranking public functionary like him disobeyed the law, it would set a wrong example for the common man, i.e., the Aam Aadmi,” the agency had said.

After ED moved the Delhi court against non-compliance of summons on February 17, Kejriwal appeared before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Divya Malhotra of Rouse Avenue Court through video conferencing and told the court that due to the ongoing budget session, he could not physically appear before the court.

The court adjourned the matter to be heard on March 16 after Kejriwal moved an application for exemption from personal appearance.
