Gandhinagar, March 18 – An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA was removed from the Gujarat Assembly on Tuesday after refusing to remove a sticker from his T-shirt that opposed the ongoing land survey process. The incident took place during the budget session’s question hour when Speaker Shankar Chaudhary objected to the display of protest slogans inside the House.

As per agency report, AAP MLA Hemant Khawa entered the Assembly wearing a T-shirt with a sticker that read, "Cancel the faulty land mapping process." When the Speaker pointed out that such demonstrations were not permitted inside the Assembly, Khawa defended his action, stating that he was merely trying to draw the government’s attention to the difficulties farmers were facing due to the ongoing land resurvey process finalizing agricultural land records.

Despite repeated warnings, the MLA refused to remove the sticker or leave the Assembly voluntarily. He insisted that his intention was not to stage a protest but to highlight a critical issue affecting farmers. The Speaker then directed marshals to escort him out of the House with due respect.

Khawa, who represents the Jamjodhpur constituency in Jamnagar district, continued to argue his case before being removed. His expulsion highlighted the growing tensions between the ruling BJP government and opposition leaders over land survey policies and their impact on farmers.

New Delhi, December 2 - Renowned civil services coach and motivational speaker Awadh Ojha joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday in the presence of party leader Arvind Kejriwal and senior leader Manish Sisodia.

Ojha expressed his alignment with AAP's education-focused ideology and highlighted his aspiration to contribute to the development of education through the political platform.

Speaking at the event, Ojha said, "I thank Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia for giving me the opportunity to work in the field of education through politics."

Kejriwal welcomed Ojha, emphasizing that his inclusion would strengthen the party’s efforts in the education sector. "With Awadh Ojha joining, our initiatives to strengthen education will gain momentum, which in turn will contribute to building a stronger nation," Kejriwal said.

Manish Sisodia also lauded Ojha's commitment to education, calling it a significant moment for the party. "Awadh Ojha has dedicated his life to education, and his contributions will enhance our mission," Sisodia added.

Delhi is gearing up for assembly elections in February next year. In the 2020 elections, AAP secured 62 out of 70 seats, and the party is optimistic about a third consecutive victory.

New Delhi, July 06 (HS). Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court has extended the judicial custody of Delhi Excise Scam accused and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the CBI case till July 15. Special Judge Kaveri Baveja ordered the extension of judicial custody.

Manish Sisodia's judicial custody was ending today, after which he was produced in the court. In this case, the Supreme Court has granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party's Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is in judicial custody in this case. On March 21, after Arvind Kejriwal did not get protection from arrest from the Delhi High Court, the ED arrested him after questioning late in the evening.i

Jammu, 29 June (H.S): Over 20 workers of the Aam Aadmi Party were detained on Saturday after they tried to hold a protest outside the BJP headquarters here against the arrest of party convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, officials said.

A group of AAP activists led by led by party leader Om Prakash Khajuria assembled near Trikuta Nagar as part of the nationwide protest against the arrest of Kejriwal and tried to move towards the BJP office but were stopped by police, they said.

The officials said over 20 workers were detained after they refused to disperse and tried to continue their march towards the BJP office.

Kejriwal was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Delhi Government?s now-scrapped excise policy. On March 21, he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money-laundering case linked to the policy. He was granted bail by a trial court that was stayed by the Delhi High Court.

'We had planned to gherao the BJP office (Jammu) against the illegal arrest of our leader in response to the call for nationwide protest but police took us into custody,' Khajuria said.

The protesters were carrying placards and shouting slogans against the BJP for allegedly misusing central agencies against opposition leaders.

'Kejriwal is being framed in a false case. The CBI was used when they (BJP) became apprehensive that he might be released by the Supreme Court,' Khajuria said, alleging that the country is faced with a ?situation worse than the Emergency? under the BJP rule.

New Delhi, May 23 (HS): Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi held a public meeting in Dilshad Garden on Thursday, the last day of election campaign in Delhi, in support of Congress candidate Kanhaiya Kumar from North East Delhi.

Appealing to vote for the Indi alliance candidates, he told the party workers that all seven seats in Delhi have to be won. For this, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers should work together.

The former Congress President said that the fight in this election is to protect the Indian Constitution. The Congress leader said, ?It is not just a book, our Constitution encompasses thousands of years of ideological legacy of Gandhi, Ambedkar and Nehru.? Rahul alleged that BJP always wants to tear the Constitution and throw it away.

Regarding reservation, the Congress leader said that people of BJP talk about abolishing reservation but Congress has said in its manifesto that we will remove the 50 percent limit on reservation and increase it beyond 50 percent.

Rahul Gandhi mentioned women and said that women work 16 hours a day, so to make crores of women of the country millionaires, Congress will deposit ?1 lakh every year in the accounts of women.

New Delhi, 02 April - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, citing moral grounds amidst his ongoing legal troubles.

During a press conference on Tuesday, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia criticized Kejriwal's conduct, stating that his repeated appearances in court (nine times) warranted his resignation. Bhatia highlighted past instances where resignations were demanded from other party members, such as when Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain faced legal issues.

Bhatia questioned the double standards in politics, stating, "Now that Arvind Kejriwal himself has gone to jail, he is talking about running the government from jail. Why are there double standards today? He should also have resigned." He emphasized the importance of upholding democratic values and respecting the Constitution.

Regarding Kejriwal's legal issues, Bhatia mentioned a recent case where the Delhi High Court denied him bail and suggested his involvement in a liquor scam. Bhatia expressed that the citizens of Delhi are increasingly dissatisfied with what they perceive as rampant corruption.

He also criticized Kejriwal's earlier promises, recalling his pledge to resign if accused of corruption and his commitment to frugal governance. Bhatia remarked, "Kejriwal had said that he will not take security, he will not take a car or bungalow but you have built Sheesh Mahal."

Bhatia concluded by referencing the Prime Minister's pledge to hold corrupt individuals accountable, emphasizing that Kejriwal should not be an exception.

New Delhi, Feb 18 (IANS) Rebuffing rumours about all not well in opposition bloc INDIA, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said that it is "mutual decision" of the AAP and Congress to go solo in Punjab for the Lok Sabha elections, and there are no differences between them.

Talking to reporters about AAP's decision to go it alone in Punjab, Kejriwal, who met Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi for lunch, said that the decision was mutual and there is no hostility over this.

The Chief Minister said that the AAP is holding seat-sharing talks with the Congress in Delhi as not going for it will make things easy for the BJP.

Since a decade, the BJP has been winning all seven parliamentary seats in the national capital.

Earlier, when Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced AAP's decision contest all 13 seats in the state, Punjab Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa had said that is what the grand old party wants exactly.

Recently in an interview to a private TV channel, Bajwa had said: "We cannot go with AAP in Punjab, as AAP is the ruling party and Congress is in opposition."

Reacting to the development, the BJP termed the opposition alliance as "opportunist".

New Delhi, Jan 10 (IANS) A Delhi court on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of AAP MP Sanjay Singh and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia until January 20.

Singh, who had filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections, has been directed by the court to be taken to the Returning Officer to collect the election certificate on January 12 under appropriate security.

Special Judge MK Nagpal of the Rouse Avenue Court also asked the jail authorities to consider Singh's application sympathetically, requesting a table and chair and permission to carry some books in judicial custody.

Additionally, interim bail was granted to Sarvesh Mishra until the disposal of his regular bail application in the same case, where he is charged alongside Singh.

The court allowed time for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to file a fresh list of unrelied documents related to the case.

On January 6, the court had allowed Singh to be physically present to file his renomination papers for the forthcoming elections to the Upper House.

A day before, the court had granted permission to Singh to sign forms and documents for his RS renomination.

The judge had directed the jail superintendent to facilitate Singh's visit to the Returning Officer on January 8 and 10 for the submission and scrutiny of his nomination papers.

The court had specified that Singh could remain at the office until the nomination and scrutiny process were complete.

However, the court had imposed restrictions during these visits, prohibiting the use of mobile phone, communication with other accused, suspects, or witnesses in the case, and addressing the press or holding public meetings.

Singh has also been permitted to meet his counsel and family members to facilitate the renomination and scrutiny processes. Singh had filed an application submitting that his current term as a Rajya Sabha member is expiring on January 27.

On Singh seeking direction to the Tihar Jail Superintendent to allow him to sign the documents, the court had passed the order on January 5, saying that the prison superintendent must ensure that Singh's signatures are permitted to be taken on the said documents and he is also permitted to meet his counsel for half-an-hour to discuss the modalities in connection with the filing of his Rajya Sabha renomination.

"It is being directed that if the documents are presented by the counsel for the accused before the jail authorities on January 6, the Jail Superintendent must ensure that the signatures of the accused are permitted," the judge had said.

On January 11, the AAP MP had moved the Delhi High Court, seeking bail in the money laundering case in connection with the alleged excise policy scam.

The move came after Judge Nagpal had, on December 22, dismissed Singh's bail plea. On December 21, the trial court had also extended the AAP leader's judicial custody in the case and had asked the ED to provide a copy of its fifth supplementary charge sheet and related documents to him.

Denying bail to Singh, the judge had said that the evidence demonstrated the accused's involvement in money laundering and that there were reasonable grounds to believe in the guilt based on the connection to proceeds of crime from scheduled offences investigated by the CBI.

The ED had arrested Singh on October 4 after carrying out searches at his residence in the North Avenue area.

Gandhinagar, Jan 4 (IANS) In a strategic move ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has the ED breathing down his neck, is set to embark upon a three-day tour of Gujarat on January 6.

As per the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), this tour is a significant step in the party's campaign efforts for the Lok Sabha polls.

During his visit, the Delhi Chief Minister is expected to engage in a series of public meetings, addressing both the general populace and dedicated party workers.

These interactions aim to bolster the AAP's presence and support in the state, as the party gears up for the national polls.

A key highlight of Kejriwal's tour is anticipated to be his meeting with the currently imprisoned AAP leader Chaitar Vasava. The details of this meeting, however, are yet to be disclosed.

Ahmedabad, Dec 11 (IANS) AAP MLA representing the Botad Assembly seat, Umesh Makwana, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, requesting an anti-corruption probe against himself.

The letter has triggered a controversy in the state's political circles.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau's (NCRB) 2022 report, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Gujarat had booked 160 officials, with five facing cases related to disproportionate assets.

The data showed a fluctuation in corruption cases over the past years, highlighting the significance of Makwana's call for transparency and accountability in the state's political landscape.

Makwana, who has completed one year as an MLA, suggested that the ACB should scrutinise his financial status for any signs of disproportionate assets.

He also called for the inquiry to be extended to the other legislators, MPs, ministers, as well as IAS and IPS officers in the state.

The MLA's letter has gone viral on social media.

In his letter, Makwana emphasised transparency, stating that the ACB investigation report should be posted online on the Gujarat government's website, allowing the people of the state to access information about the income and assets of every MLA, MP, and top government officials.

The letter has sparked discussions in the political circles, with some seeing it as a direct challenge to Chief Minister Patel.

New Delhi, Dec 11 (IANS) A Delhi court on Monday extended, till December 21m the judicial custody of AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh in alleged excise policy scam case.

The Rouse Avenue Court has also listed hearing on Singh's bail application for hearing on Tuesday. During the hearing, the court also granted permission to Singh to appear before the Parliament’s Privilege committee to file his submissions in a 'breach of privilege' matter.

Singh had to appear before the committee on October 5, however he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on October 4 in connection with its probe into the now scrapped excise policy case following day-long searches at his residence here.

On December 9, the ED strongly opposed the bail plea of Singh, arguing that the documents recovered from Singh were not part of the judicial record, highlighting his perceived influence.

Special Judge M.K. Nagpal had then adjourned the hearing till Monday, where the defence counsel were to present their counterarguments.

Advocates Zoheb Hossain and Naveen Kumar Matta represented the ED during the proceedings.

In response, Sanjay Singh, through his legal representatives, appealed to the court for his release, asserting that the investigation against him had already concluded. His defence emphasised that Singh's continued detention served no purpose, especially considering the filing of a charge sheet by the ED, signalling the end of their inquiry.

The defence argued that further custodial interrogation was unnecessary, as Singh's detention lacked justification. However, the ED countered it, asserting that the investigation was still ongoing. It also expressed apprehension that granting bail to Singh might impede the ongoing probe, potentially leading to tampering with evidence and influencing witnesses.

According to ED sources, the financial probe agency filed a 60-page charge sheet, alleging that Singh was involved in conspiracy, money laundering and helping the accused. The ED has also named one more person as accused in the chargesheet, however, they have not revealed the name so far.

Singh’s arrest was the second big arrest in the case after former Deputy Chief Minister and AAP leader Manish Sisodia.

The ED had also arrested AAP communication incharge Vijay Nair in the case. The liquor scam case pertains to allegations that the AAP-led Delhi government's excise policy for 2021-22 allowed cartelisation and favoured certain dealers who had allegedly paid bribes for it. The AAP has strongly refuted the charge and accused the BJP government at centre of indulging in political vendetta.

New Delhi, Dec 1 (IANS) With the Assembly elections over and the results expected on Sunday, the seat sharing talks of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) will gain pace even as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is bargaining hard with Congress for seats in northeastern states and in Gujarat.

A senior Congress source said that the seat sharing talks will gain momentum once the Assembly election results of five states are declared. The sources said that the party will be in good condition of bargaining as it is expected that it will improve its tally of the MLAs in five states as compared to 2018.

On the talks with the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the party source said that they are ready to give it three seats in Delhi and also their present seats in Punjab.

"However, they are demanding seats in Assam, Haryana (Sonepat) and several other northeastern states and in Gujarat," the source said, adding that the party is not ready to accept the condition led by the AAP.

However, the source said that the discussion will be held in detail before coming to any conclusion as no decision has been taken yet.

After the third meeting of the INDIA bloc in Mumbai on August 31 and September 1, it announced to form a 14 member coordination committee and 19 member Election Strategy Committee to take on the BJP in crucial 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The coordination committee has Congress's KC Venugopal, NCP's Sharad Pawar, DMK's T.R. Baalu, JMM's Hemant Soren, Shiv Sena-UBT's Sanjay Raut, RJD's Tejashwi Yadav, Trinamool Congress' Abhishek Banerjee, AAP's Raghav Chaddha, Samajwadi Party's Javed Ali Khan, JD-U's Lallan Singh, CPI's D. Raja, National Conference's Omar Abdullah, and PDP's Mehbooba Mufti. The CPI-M is yet to select its nominee.
