Surat experiences extreme heat as mercury reaches 38 degrees in February The city of Surat in Gujarat is witnessing an unprecedented heat wave in February due to hot and dry winds from the north. The temperature has already crossed 38 degrees, breaking the previous record of 38.4 degrees in February 2018. This is the second time in six years that the mercury has risen above 38 degrees in February. While the hot and dry winds are expected to continue for another day or two, the temperature may drop by 2 to 3 degrees.

The maximum temperature in the city is 6 degrees above average, and the minimum temperature is 3 degrees above average. The Meteorological Department has warned of a heat wave in some areas of Kutch and Saurashtra in the next two days. According to Dr. Manorama Mohanty, director of the Meteorological Department, climate change and dry winds have contributed to the temperature rise in Gujarat.

The abnormal increase in temperature has also impacted other parts of the country, with Delhi experiencing temperatures 10 degrees above normal. Dr. Naresh, a scientist with the Indian Meteorological Department, has warned that the temperature may increase in Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal, and Uttarakhand due to the effect of the Western Disturbance.
