Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates recently tested a new pesticide sprayer developed by an Indian startup, marking a significant recognition for indigenous agricultural innovation. The sprayer, designed to provide farmers with a more efficient and user-friendly alternative, was created by local engineer Yogesh Gawande.

As per agency report, Gawande founded his company in 2019 in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, with the aim of developing innovative agricultural solutions. On March 17, during his visit to the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in New Delhi, Gates personally tried operating the sprayer in the presence of its creator.

Gawande explained that he initially developed the sprayer as part of a college engineering project. Unlike traditional methods where farmers carry heavy pesticide tanks on their backs, this device operates on wheels, allowing simultaneous spraying on four rows of crops. The sprayer's nozzle height can be adjusted between 12 to 14 feet, making it suitable for spraying pesticides on taller trees. Additionally, the nozzle pressure can be regulated to prevent crop damage.

Despite the product’s initial appreciation, Gawande faced challenges in commercializing it. However, with support from the Marathwada Accelerator for Growth and Incubation Council (MAGIC), he successfully established his company. Today, the sprayer is sold in 22 Indian states and has also received orders from African countries like Kenya and Namibia.

Gawande, who is associated with the Gates Foundation, was given an opportunity to present his invention to Bill Gates during his visit to India. Gates spent several minutes examining the device, tested its operation, and inquired about its working mechanism.

MAGIC directors Prasad Kokil and Ashish Garde highlighted the achievement as a proud moment for their organization and the city, emphasizing that locally developed innovations are gaining global recognition.

New Delhi - Melinda Gates, the former wife of Bill Gates and a prominent figure in philanthropy, has decided to resign from her role as co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Her resignation, announced after 23 years of service, will be effective from June 7. As per the agreement, Melinda Gates will receive $12.5 billion.

In a statement shared on 'X' platform, Melinda Gates expressed her decision to step down, stating, "After much consideration, I have decided to resign from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. My last day at the foundation will be June 7."

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is renowned for its global philanthropic work and is regarded as one of the world's top non-governmental organizations. Following Melinda Gates' announcement, Bill Gates also took to social media to acknowledge her contributions and express gratitude.

It is worth noting that Bill Gates and Melinda Gates divorced in 2021 after 27 years of marriage. However, they had previously stated their intention to continue working together at the foundation. They had agreed to a trial period until 2023, during which they would assess their ability to work together. If they were unable to do so, they would separate their responsibilities within the foundation.

Bhubaneswar, Odisha: Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates visited the Maa Mangala slum in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Wednesday. During his visit, Gates interacted with residents and government officials to learn more about the Jaga Mission, a government initiative aimed at improving living conditions in slums.

Gates engaged in discussions with slum dwellers, inquiring about the basic amenities available to them and their experiences with the Jaga Mission scheme. He also visited the Biju Adarsh Colony, a model colony developed under the program, alongside state government officials.

New Delhi, Feb 28 (IANS) Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates on Tuesday visited the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) office in Mumbai, where he held wide-ranging discussions with Governor Shaktikanta Das.

In a tweet, RBI said that Gates went its office during his visit to India, where he is exploring business opportunities in sectors like health and education.

Gates had recently indicated that he wants to do business-related activities in India.

"Like every other country on the planet, India has limited resources. But it has shown us how the world can still make progress in spite of that constraint," Gates had tweeted on Monday.

San Francisco, Feb 24 (IANS) In order to test if people can use ChatGPT to instruct robots without knowing programming languages or understanding robotics systems, Microsoft has conducted research to see if it can think outside the text and think about the physical world to help with robotics tasks.

"The key challenge here is teaching ChatGPT how to solve problems considering the laws of physics, the context of the operating environment, and how the robot's physical actions can change the state of the world," Microsoft said in a blogpost.

"It turns out that ChatGPT can do a lot by itself, but it still needs some help. Our technical paper describes a series of design principles that can be used to guide language models towards solving robotics tasks. These include, and are not limited to, special prompting structures, high-level APIs, and human feedback via text," it added.

After ChatGPT was given access to object-detection and object-distance data via application interfaces, the Microsoft researchers investigated its ability to generate code, mostly in Python, for robotics scenarios such as zero-shot planning and code generation.

As the AI chatbot was trained on a large amount of code and written text, it can generate code.

The system can solve coding problems and debug programmes, as well as respond to dialogue and seek clarifications, according to the researchers.

Moreover, ChatGPT was tested as a language-based interface between a non-technical user and a drone using these dialogue and clarification capabilities in mind.

The researchers note that while GPT-3, LaMDA, and Codex demonstrated good results when it comes to robotics planning and coding, ChatGPT stands out as "a potentially more versatile robotics tool because it incorporates natural language and code generation models with dialogue flexibility".

"ChatGPT asked clarification questions when the user's instructions were ambiguous and wrote complex code structures for the drone such as a zig-zag pattern to visually inspect shelves," the researchers said.

Microsoft tested ChatGPT to use a robotic arm to move blocks around to form the Microsoft logo, with writing an algorithm for a drone to reach a point without crashing into obstacles, and whether ChatGPT can decide where a robot should go based on sensor feedback in real-time.

San Francisco: Taking the world by storm these days, AI chatbot ChatGPT has now interviewed UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, in which they answered a range of questions.

Bill Gates on LinkedIn shared the video of the interview, saying: "Rishi Sunak and I were interviewed by an AI chatbot and had a great conversation about the future. Spoiler alert: it's bright".

The AI chatbot's first question was about the impact of technology on the global economy and job market over the next 10 years.

In response, Bill Gates said that "we need to be more efficient because there is a labour shortage in healthcare and education. Hopefully, technology like AI can help us be more efficient."

Another question posed by ChatGPT is what advice they would give to their younger selves at the start of their careers if they could go back in time.

To which Gates said, "I was kind of overly intense and didn't believe in weekends, I didn't believe in vacations. I had a very "narrow view" of the working style, the talking style. And for the small early Microsft Group, that was OK, but then as we got bigger, I had to realise, as you get people with families in, you have got to think about this, it is a very long-term thing."

He added that he was intense on himself, which he applied to others who worked for him and likes to realise it sooner if he could go back in time.

Sunak gave a similar response, stating that he comes from an immigrant family and has always worked to get ahead. "Over time I've come to realise you've got to live in the moment."

The next question ChatGPT asked was what one aspect of their jobs they wish AI could do for them.

The Microsoft co-founder answered saying, that sometimes when he is writing notes, he uses AI to make them 'clever'. He also claims to have used AI to write songs, poems, and other works.

The UK Prime Minister said that it would be great if AI could take care of PM's Question Time for him every week.
