New Delhi, Jan 10 (IANS) Lakshmi Mittal, Chairman of ArcelorMittal, said the Hazira site of AM/NS India will be one of the world's largest single-location integrated steel plants with a total capacity of 24 MTPA of crude steel production.

“We are fully confident that with the support of the Gujarat government, we will be able to commission this full site in the next five years. We continue to invest not only in steel but also in emerging sectors like renewable energy and green hydrogen,” Mittal said at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2024 in Ahmedabad.

“Steel is one of the primary contributors to any nation’s journey towards self-reliance. At the heart of Atmanirbharta, is steel which supports a range of applications across sectors such as infrastructure, urbanisation, renewables, automotive including electric vehicles, defence, and railways.

"By bringing the best of global technology, we are developing high end products which helps steel consumers across MSMEs to start-ups to become competitive.

“At this Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, we have signed MoUs for phase 2 of the project. I am proud to say that this expansion project is progressing rapidly and as per target, its Phase 1 will be completed by 2026," he added.

Surat - Five large barges carrying thousands of tonnes of coal got stuck near the ONGC Bridge at Hazira Jetty, raising questions about the safety of the structure. The barges, which had left from Hazira Jetty, were pulled towards the bridge due to strong wind waves, water velocity, and broken ropes.

Motorists passing the ONGC Bridge were curious to see the stranded coal-laden barges. Authorities are making efforts to safely move the barges back to the jetty.

Various companies' barges are tied at Hazira Jetty, with private company barges operating nearby. Occasionally, excessive wind and water velocity can cause the barges' ropes to break, resulting in them being pulled into the river and getting stuck near the ONGC Bridge pillars. If the barges' speed is too fast, they can collide with the bridge, causing potential damage.

The coal loaded onto the barges originated from Indonesia and was being unloaded at Magdalla Port. The strong winds forced the five boats under the ONGC Bridge, where they collided with each other. It is currently being investigated whether the barges hit the bridge's pillar or not.

Local residents have expressed concerns that if the barges collide with the bridge, it may compromise the structure.

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) celebrated International Women’s Day by organizing a sports day in Hazira on Friday. The sports event, which was organized in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Gujarat and the District Sports Office, Surat, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of women's health. More than 400 women from Hazira and the surrounding villages participated in various sports as part of the event.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Deputy Commissioner of Police Saroj Kumari, Padma Shri Awardee Ramilaben Gamit, District Senior Sports Coach Chetan Patel, sarpanches of nearby villages, and top officials of AM/NS India. The best performers were awarded prizes and mementos at the end of the tournament.

Dr. Vikas Yadvendu, Head-CSR at AM/NS India, emphasized the importance of women's health and said that the sports meet was organized to encourage women to focus on their health. "A healthy woman means a healthy family and healthy families mean a healthy society. Women’s health is critical but somehow most women tend to ignore their own health while caring for their families. I am confident that the sports meet will lead to greater health awareness among women," he said.

The sports day organized by AM/NS India was a great initiative to celebrate International Women’s Day and raise awareness about women's health. It also provided an opportunity for women to participate in sports and focus on their physical fitness.

Hazira-Surat, 18 February 2023: 2 associates of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) have been awarded the prestigious Rajya Shram Ratna Award by the state government. AM/NS India bagged two of the 16 awards for industries in the south Gujarat region.

Bipin Nena of Prince Engeetech, who is serving in the electrical department of AM/NS India’s 500 MW power plant at Hazira, was bestowed the Rajya Shram Ratna Award, the highest honour under the state government’s Rajya Puraskrut Shram Paritoshik (Shram Awards) scheme.

Santosh Kumar of Jagannath Enterprise, who is serving in the HRC division of CRM department, was honoured with the Rajya Shram Vir award. 

They were presented the award by Government of Gujarat’s Labour and Employment Minister Balvantsinh Rajput in Gandhinagar. The Rajya Shram Award carries a cash prize of Rs. 25,000, while the Rajya Shram Vir award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,000. Both were also awarded certificates of recognition.

“We are extremely proud of the achievements of Bipin Nena and Santosh Kumar. At AM/NS India, we accord top priority to the safety of workers and employees, and 2 of our associates receiving awards from the state government are a testimony of that. The awards are an inspiration for all of us at AM/NS India,” said Dr. Anil Matoo, Head of Human Resource Operations, IR & Administration at AM/NS India.

The state government has implemented the Rajya Puraskrut Shram Paritoshik (Shram Awards) scheme to encourage and recognize innovative work done by industrial workmen in the field of production, productivity, industrial peace, presence of mind, and steps taken to save the life and limbs of fellow workers and public property at large of the affected area in the event of any calamity/emergency and any special work done for the welfare of workers. Under the scheme, awards are given each year on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti to felicitate deserving workmen.
