The construction of modern and robust infrastructure has made the traffic system more efficient and faster than before.

Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, road and bridge construction is being prioritized across Gujarat, positively impacting Rajkot as well. Recognized as a center for trade and industry in Saurashtra, Rajkot has seen the construction of 5 flyovers and 1 railway underbridge in the past five years to reduce traffic pressure and strengthen transportation. These projects have significantly eased travel on the city's major routes.

The three-arm flyover bridge built at Hospital Chowk is proving to be a major convenience for drivers heading towards the Rajkot-Jamnagar route. Meanwhile, the double-decker flyover at K.K.V. Chowk on the 150-foot ring road plays a crucial role in facilitating traffic towards Kalawad Road.

Additionally, the flyover at Nana Mawa Chowk on the 150-foot ring road helps vehicles heading towards Gondal Chowk pass quickly without stopping at signals. The flyover at Ramdevpir Chowk and the one built between Prem Mandir and Mota Mawa on Kalawad Road have also given new momentum to the city's transportation facilities. The General Bipin Rawat railway underbridge constructed near Lakshminagar Nala has provided a permanent solution to the waterlogging problem during the monsoon, offering significant relief to local drivers in the rainy season.

Considering the increasing traffic needs, a new railway overbridge is being constructed to extend the existing Sandhya Bridge on the Rajkot-Jamnagar railway line. This Sandhya Bridge, being developed by the Municipal Corporation at a cost of approximately 743.2 million rupees, is nearing completion and will soon be dedicated to the public. Meanwhile, the construction of a multi-level iconic bridge at Kataria Junction, connecting the second ring road and Kalawad Road, is also progressing rapidly.

According to Municipal Commissioner Tushar Sumera, about 40 percent of the project work has been completed. These modern flyovers and bridges being developed in Rajkot are not only improving the traffic system but also shaping a new identity for the city. With smart infrastructure, rapid development, and modern urban facilities, Rajkot is now establishing a strong presence among Gujarat's emerging modern metropolises.

In a crucial meeting held at the collector's office, directives were issued for the effective implementation of the district's disaster management plan.

A total of 12 officials, including a deputy collector in each taluka, have been assigned special duties to address emergencies such as heavy rainfall and potential flooding. Additionally, all staff have been instructed to be present at their respective workplaces during storm or heavy rain warnings. The meeting, chaired by District Development Officer Anandu Suresh Govind, emphasized the need for various departments to ensure preparedness for rescue and evacuation operations during the monsoon.

He directed the immediate removal of obstacles that could impede water flow and called for a study of previously flooded areas to find permanent solutions. There was also an emphasis on prohibiting potential water sports activities in the district before the monsoon begins. Resident Additional Collector N.K.

Muchhare instructed the timely removal of dilapidated electric poles, dangerous hoardings on tall buildings, and other hazardous structures. The meeting stressed prioritizing effective measures to prevent loss of life during the monsoon. It was mentioned that in the event of any accidents, all procedures, including post-mortems, should be completed promptly to provide immediate financial assistance to the affected.

Furthermore, departments such as Panchayat, Construction, Health, Agriculture, and Animal Husbandry were directed to hold meetings with their staff to take necessary precautions. Plans were made to establish 24-hour flood control rooms at the taluka level starting June 1 and to strengthen communication systems. Instructions were also given to identify low-lying areas, prepare a list of safe locations, and arrange for swimmers and rescue equipment in advance.

The administration directed the relevant departments to inspect dams and canals, clean riverbeds, place warning boards on dilapidated buildings, and ensure the safety of grains in government warehouses. The meeting was attended by various departmental officials, provincial officers, Mamlatdars, taluka development officers, and chief officers of municipal corporations.

The Saurashtra-Kutch region has witnessed a sharp rise in electricity demand due to extreme heat. The increasing use of air conditioners, fans, and other cooling devices across Saurashtra, including Rajkot, has led to a continuous rise in electricity consumption.

On Tuesday, the highest demand of 7280 megawatts was recorded compared to the last eight days. According to sources in the energy department, if temperatures rise further, this demand could reach 8000 megawatts in the coming days. Currently, some power generation units in the Morbi area are not fully operational.

If they become active, the demand is expected to increase further. Officials at the load dispatch center located near Charania in Jetpur mentioned that electricity demand peaks every summer. Under normal circumstances, a demand of up to 8500 megawatts can be met without any disruption.

For any demand beyond that, additional electricity is purchased from the National Power Exchange, although such a need has not arisen yet. Officials also noted that there is a continuous increase in electricity generation from solar rooftop projects in Saurashtra, which is helping to balance local demand.

An increase in the use of solar energy is also being observed in industrial areas, which may reduce the need for private electricity purchases in the future. Overall, amidst rising heat, the electricity supply system remains balanced for now, but demand pressure may increase if temperatures rise further.

As the Election Commission is working to raise voter awareness through various means for the local body elections in 2026, a unique initiative has emerged in Rajkot. The Rajkot District Milk Producer Cell is conveying the message of voters' rights through milk receipts.

The elections for the taluka panchayat, municipality, and district panchayat scheduled for April 26 are expected to have a significant impact on rural areas. Keeping this in mind, the Rajkot district administration and election branch have adopted an innovative method to reach out directly to milk producers. The receipts given to the producers who deliver milk prominently feature the message that 'My vote is my right.' This initiative aims to convey that just as fat has a price in milk, the right to vote is equally valuable.

According to Nikhil Chavda, registrar of Gopal Dairy, approximately 20,000 milk producers receive such receipts daily. Over the past five days, more than 80,000 receipts containing the voter awareness message have been distributed. Additionally, outreach to voters is also being conducted through the Amul Kisan app.

Approximately 4,700 mobile users receive bulk messages daily, and more than 15,000 awareness messages have been broadcast since April 16. This campaign will continue until April 26. Rajkot District Collector and Election Officer Dr.

Om Prakash is actively promoting this campaign under the guidance of the SVAP department. The administration's goal is to raise awareness among as many people as possible to ensure their participation in the democratic process.

Customers purchasing medicines at medical stores will receive bills that not only provide information about the medicines but also include the voting date and the importance of voting.

A special stamp is being placed on the bills, stating that voting is a right and encouraging people to vote. As customers view their medicine bills, they are reminded to vote in the elections scheduled for April 26. This campaign is part of the district administration's 'SWAP' activity, which also displays the dates for general and by-elections for the taluka and district panchayat, municipal corporation, and Gondal municipality, aiming to raise awareness among as many people as possible.

The nodal officer of 'SWAP', Jigyashaben Garhvi, mentioned that several organizations are collaborating with the administration to enhance voting awareness. With the support of the health department, this message is also being conveyed through bills at public service centers and tax branches of the municipal corporation, in addition to private medical stores. She noted that when people visiting for medicine purchases or tax-related work see such messages, they respond positively and express their commitment to participating in this democratic festival.

The car had a police sticker, and the robbers were dressed in white shirts and khaki pants, making them appear like real officials.

The robbers identified themselves as customs officials and seized all three bags. They then left Prince Rampariya at the scene while taking Mahesh Mamatora away in the car to a distance before fleeing. Upon receiving information about the incident, the Khagoul police arrived at the scene and began an investigation.

The police recovered a stolen car, a motorcycle, and an empty bag used in the robbery. It is reported that the robbers removed and discarded the GPS device from the bag, indicating that the heist was well-planned. Upon learning of the incident, businessman Sunilbhai Fitchadiya and his brother Jigneshbhai rushed to Danapur.

Considering the seriousness of the case, the police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and are reviewing nearby CCTV footage. Initial investigations revealed that the robbers had been following the employees from the railway station.

Meanwhile, the biggest question arising is why such a large quantity of gold was being sent by train and how the robbers obtained precise information about it. The police believe that this robbery is part of a well-orchestrated conspiracy and that the culprits will be arrested soon, leading to the resolution of the case.

Police Commissioner Brajesh Kumar Jha has ordered all arms license holders in areas where the model code of conduct is in effect to surrender their weapons to the respective police stations.

This order pertains to the general elections for 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats, and 260 taluka panchayats, as well as by-elections for 13 vacant seats in 11 municipal corporations. The police have instructed all relevant police stations to ensure the collection of weapons from license holders in their areas and to provide this information to the commissionerate. The police commissionerate has also imposed a complete ban on the public display and use of licensed weapons until the election process is completed.

This order applies to all license holders, regardless of whether their license was issued by Rajkot or another authority. Additionally, a temporary halt has been placed on the buying and selling of weapons. However, weapons surrendered to the respective police stations will be returned without any additional orders after the election process concludes on April 30, 2026.

Some categories are exempt from this order, including government and semi-government institutions, banks, corporations, gunmen of recognized security agencies, personnel engaged in the security of ATMs and currency chests, and state, national, or international level shooters. However, individual license holders will not benefit from this exemption. Security guards will be required to carry a certificate issued by the bank manager, detailing their identity and appointment.

The relevant bank management must inform the police station about such employees, which will be verified by the police. Additionally, officials and employees of the central and state governments who are legally permitted to carry weapons and are on election duty will be exempt from this order.

Individuals with special permissions will also be granted exemptions. The police administration has made it clear that strict legal action will be taken against those who violate the order.
