Surat. The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized an important session on 'Conflict in the Middle East and Emerging Opportunities in Other Markets' to raise awareness among the industry about the changing global landscape.

The event took place on April 25, 2026, at the Samhati complex in Sarsana, with a large number of industrialists and business representatives in attendance. At the beginning of the program, the Chamber's Vice President Ashok Jirawala welcomed the guests and noted that the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East are clearly impacting global trade. He emphasized the need for industries to understand this situation and seek new markets while updating their strategies.

On this occasion, Dr. Vandana Srivastava, President of the Albert Chamber of Commerce, analyzed the Middle East crisis and its impact on the global supply chain in her detailed address. She mentioned that new opportunities are rapidly emerging for Indian industries in regions such as Canada, Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia under the current circumstances.

She advised industrialists to focus on quality, innovation, and competitive pricing to strengthen their position in international markets. Additionally, she highlighted the need to explore global expansion possibilities through strategic partnerships and business alliances. Dr.

Srivastava referred to the 'China Plus One' strategy, stating that global companies are now looking towards India as an alternative to China. This presents a significant opportunity for the Indian manufacturing sector, which can be leveraged with the right policies and preparations. During the program, the Chamber's Group Chairman Sanjay Punjabi introduced the keynote speaker, while Devkishan Mangani, Chairman of the Global Connect Committee, moderated the session.

In the end, he expressed gratitude to all participants and concluded the program. This session is considered an important step towards better communication and collaboration between the industry and the government, which could help promote industry-friendly policies in the future.

A delegation from the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry met with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday, April 23, 2026, to present important industry-related issues. Led by Chamber President Nikhil Madras, the delegation included Vice President Ashok Jirawala, former President Vijay Mevawala, Honorary Minister Bijal Zariwala, and Treasurer CA Mitish Modi.

During the meeting, the Chamber demanded the reimplementation of the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS), which was introduced during the COVID period, considering the current situation in the Middle East. They also proposed providing collateral-free loans to industrialists with a six-month moratorium. Expressing concern over the uncertainty in gas supply due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East, the Chamber called for a faster and more effective gas distribution system.

The delegation reported that workers were leaving Surat for their home states due to a shortage of gas, which is impacting the industry. To prevent the migration of workers, they suggested coordinating with the Railway Ministry to arrange additional trains to bring back workers who had gone outside. Additionally, they expressed concern over the delays in the proposed PM Mitra Park project near Surat.

The Chamber urged the state government to prioritize this project by appointing a developer soon and accelerating development work to strengthen Surat's leading position in the textile sector. The Chief Minister listened carefully to all the Chamber's suggestions and assured that necessary steps would be taken to address industry-related issues. He also sought the Chamber's cooperation to ensure maximum participation of industrialists in the 'Vibrant Gujarat' program, to which the Chamber responded positively.

Surat. Following the stampede and chaos at Udhna railway station last Sunday, the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCCI) has entered action mode.

On Monday, April 20, 2026, a delegation from the chamber's railway committee met with Western Railway's General Manager Ramashray Pandey at Udhna station and presented a detailed plan to ensure the safe travel of migrants. In addition to Udhna, the chamber's president Nikhil Madarasi mentioned the option of Bhestan-Chalthan, noting that currently most holiday special trains are only being operated from Udhna station, leading to unbearable pressure on passengers there. To address this issue, the chamber proposed alternative stations to the railway.

It suggested that trains should also be started from Surat, Bhestan, and Chalthan railway stations to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh. Considering the increasing crowd in April and May, a sufficient number of new holiday special trains should be put on track. The chamber informed the railway administration that around 500,000 migrant workers are employed in Surat's industry.

During school holidays, when these workers return home with their families, the situation at the stations becomes dire. There is a need for solid and proactive planning to prevent the ongoing chaos at Udhna station over the past two years. General Manager Ramashray Pandey listened seriously to the chamber's proposals and assured that new trains would be operated.

However, he also made an important suggestion that the railway is monitoring the number of passengers and will arrange for additional trains. But, to manage the crowd, industrial unit owners must also cooperate by encouraging workers to travel on other days of the week instead of just Sunday, to avoid heavy crowds accumulating at the station on a single day.

The meeting was attended by railway committee chairman Rakesh Shah, secretary Paulik Desai, and other members. The chamber assured that they would coordinate with industrial units to distribute the travel load throughout the week and prevent unpleasant incidents at Udhna railway station.
