The upcoming lineup is expected to feature four models: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a brand-new addition – the iPhone 17 Slim. All models will run on the latest iOS 26, which introduces the innovative Liquid Glass Interface along with a host of unique new features.

As per agency report, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models will be powered by Apple’s latest A19 Pro chipset, manufactured using TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process. This advancement is expected to offer significant improvements in performance and battery efficiency.

Design changes are also on the horizon. In the iPhone 17 Pro, the Apple logo on the rear panel may be slightly repositioned downward, likely to accommodate a new layout for the MagSafe magnets. The Pro model may feature an aluminum frame, a shift from the titanium frames used in the iPhone 15 and 16 Pro models. The rear camera bump could become larger and more rectangular in shape, although the triangular lens layout is expected to remain.

Apple is rumored to introduce a new Sky Blue color variant for the iPhone 17 Pro. Additionally, the Pro models may come equipped with 12GB RAM, up from the current 8GB, enabling smoother multitasking and enhanced AI functionalities.

Another key development is Apple’s work on its own Wi-Fi 7 chip, which could potentially replace Broadcom components in these new iPhones. This would mark a major step toward further in-house hardware integration.

On the camera front, significant upgrades are expected. The front camera could be enhanced from 12MP to 24MP, while the rear telephoto lens may see a major boost from 12MP to 48MP. Advanced features like 8K video recording and dual video recording capabilities are also likely to be included.

With these major hardware and software improvements, the iPhone 17 series is shaping up to be one of Apple’s most feature-rich and technologically advanced releases to date.

The company stated that the smartphone is being produced at its Noida facility, which has been central to Samsung’s manufacturing operations in India.

The Galaxy S25 Edge is priced between Rs 1.09 lakh and Rs 1.22 lakh, depending on the configuration. As per agency report, the model is part of Samsung’s broader effort to strengthen its position in the premium smartphone segment in India.

According to Counterpoint Research, Apple and Samsung together accounted for 94 percent of all smartphones manufactured in India in 2024. Samsung alone captured a 17 percent market share in the Indian smartphone sector during the January–March quarter of 2025, supported largely by the success of its flagship S-series devices.

The S25 Ultra series in particular has contributed significantly to Samsung’s dominance in the premium category. The local production of the Galaxy S25 Edge further underscores the company’s commitment to its ‘Make in India’ initiative and its focus on delivering high-end innovation to Indian consumers.

According to fresh reports, the production of this new foldable device could begin soon, marking a significant addition to Samsung’s Galaxy Z series lineup.

As per agency reports, Samsung plans to start sourcing necessary components in April, alongside ramping up production for its next-generation foldable phones. The tri-fold smartphone is expected to be launched between July and September this year, aligning with the release schedule of the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip. Speculation is also growing over the device’s official name, with some reports suggesting it could be called the Galaxy G Fold, distinguishing it from the existing Z Fold lineup.

Unlike Samsung’s previous foldable phones, the new tri-fold design will allow the device to fold inwards twice, setting it apart from Huawei’s Mate X T, which folds differently. The Samsung tri-fold is rumored to feature a 9.96-inch display when fully unfolded, slightly smaller than the Huawei Mate X T’s 10.2-inch screen. However, compared to other Samsung foldables, it will offer a larger display, providing users with an enhanced viewing experience.

Despite offering a sizable screen, the device’s weight is expected to be similar to Huawei’s tri-fold smartphone, which weighs approximately 298 grams. However, due to its inward-folding mechanism, Samsung’s version may be slightly thicker than its competitor.

Huawei was the first company to introduce a tri-fold smartphone last year with the Mate X T, which has recently expanded into global markets. Samsung’s entry into this segment is expected to intensify competition in the foldable smartphone industry, with the company leveraging its advanced display technology to offer an innovative and user-friendly experience.

These gadgets have serious concerns, such as smartphone addiction, even though they have many advantages, such as fast communication and easy access to a multitude of information. To guarantee the general growth and well-being of the younger generation, it is our collective responsibility as parents, teachers and community members in general to address this issue and foster good habits in them.

Addiction to smartphones among young people can have a negative impact on their social connections, mental & physical health as well as on the overall quality of their life. An increase in sedentary behaviour, bad posture, eye strain, and disturbed sleep patterns have all been related to excessive smartphone use, which has been shown to deteriorate physical health. Additionally, extended use of screens can have an adverse effect on mental health as well as academic performance by raising stress levels, causing anxiety, depression and lowering cognitive capacities. Furthermore, relying too much on smartphones for socialising can prevent people from developing significant verbal skills and interpersonal relationships, which can limit social interactions.

The following tips can significantly help the young generation in becoming less reliant on their smartphones and developing better habits:

1. Set Specific Boundaries: Define precise times and locations, such as “phone-free” zones for family time, meals, and before bedtime, when smartphone use is not allowed. Maintaining these limits over time will help you establish a pattern that lessens your child’s dependency on continual digital stimulation.

2. Monitor Screen Time: To keep tabs on the amount of time spent on a smartphone each day, use third-party apps or the built-in smartphone screen monitoring tools. Establish reasonable targets for progressively cutting back on screen time, then make an effort to adhere to them.

3. Engage in Mindfulness Practice: Apply mindfulness practices to your everyday life to increase your awareness of your smartphone usage patterns and how they affect your as well as your child’s mental health. Take periodic breaks from the devices and do things like deep breathing exercises or meditation that can help one become more present and relaxed.

4. Limit alerts: To reduce interruptions and distractions during the day, turn off non-essential alerts. To recover ownership of attention as well as focus, give priority to notifications from contacts or apps that are critical and silence/mute those from less significant sources; this will also help your children get distracted by multiple notifications that increase their craving for a digital presence.

5. Set Apart Tech-Free Time: Plan times during the week or day when using devices is completely prohibited. This will allow for unhindered leisure activities, socialising, or rest. Take advantage of this opportunity to spend time with loved ones, pursue hobbies, or get back in touch with nature without the screen distractions.

6. Find Substitute Activities: Seek substitutes for excessive mobile phone use, like reading a book, working out, engaging in artistic endeavours, or interacting with others in person. Try out a variety of hobbies to discover ones that satisfy you and make you happy without using technology.

7. Establish Clear Objectives: Whether using smartphones for pleasure, productivity, or communication, establish explicit objectives and priorities. Make sure your smartphone usage is in line with these aims. Avoid wasting time on pointless browsing or using too many apps, which might hinder your progress.

8. Seek Medical Attention If Needed: You should think about getting assistance from a therapist or a counsellor who specialises in digital addiction if the smartphone addiction has a major negative influence on the child/youngster’s relationships, mental health, or everyday functioning. These professionals can offer tailored approaches and assistance to tackle fundamental problems and cultivate more practical coping techniques for you or your loved ones.

We can develop healthy habits and guarantee the complete growth of the next generation in a world that is increasingly digital by encouraging appropriate smartphone use, boosting digital literacy, and placing a higher priority on wellbeing than excessive screen time. Applying these tips over time will turn into habits that the young generation will carry for life. After all, a mindful generation raises a mindful society.

In the fourth quarter of 2023 alone, iPhone shipments saw seven per cent growth in India, according to CMR data accessed by IANS.

Apple's Q4 2023 performance in India paints a picture of strong measured progress in a crucial growth market.

"The 28 per cent YoY growth in iPhone shipments in 2023 underlines Apple’s long-term growth potential in India. I believe India will power Apple’s growth over the next decade, just like China did in the previous one," said Prabhu Ram, Head, Industry Intelligence Group at CMR.

The iPhone 15 grew on the back of the rising premiumization trend in India.

"The continued significance of older generation iPhones, including the iPhone 14 and 13 series underscores the effectiveness of Apple's affordability initiatives and targeted retail strategies in appealing to a broader spectrum of Indian consumers, contributing to the overall growth," Ram told IANS.

As India doubles down on local manufacturing, Apple assembled iPhones worth more than Rs 1 lakh crore in India in 2023, according to industry data.

However, according to industry sources, the actual market value of the iPhones manufactured/assembled in India could be much higher, depending on taxes in other countries.

Apple’s manufacturing in India is part of the goals set under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme.

Led by Apple, India is set to cross $15 billion (over Rs 1,24,000 crore) in mobile phone exports in the current fiscal year (FY24), posting a growth of 35 per cent over the last fiscal year.

Apple's revenue in India hit nearly Rs 50,000 crore in FY23, with sales increasing 48 per cent to Rs 49,321 crore and net profit rising 76 per cent to Rs 2,229 crore -- fastest growth of net profit for Apple in India in the last five years.

New Delhi, Jan 23 (IANS) Artificial intelligence (AI) is here and when it comes to devices around us, the role of this new technology to boost productivity, creativity and overall daily-life experiences is now being explored by various original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). For the record, Samsung has taken a leap with its new ‘Galaxy AI phones’.

From breaking language barriers with AI-driven text and call translations to maximising creativity with its ‘ProVisual Engine’ that comes with AI-powered tools for images, the new Galaxy S24 Ultra has gone beyond incremental changes we have been witnessing in premium smartphones lately.

With the gesture-driven ‘Circle to Search’ feature with Google, the company has transformed the way online searches for shopping, travel and other tasks are done.

It is heartening to see that the Galaxy S24 Ultra with a 6.8-inch flatter display has turned its focus back on the phone’s most fundamental role: communication.

With the ‘Live Translate’ feature, you can chat with another student or colleague from abroad without any language concern.

You can book an Uber or a dinner reservation at your favourite restaurant while on vacation in another country where language can be a problem.

The ‘Live Translate’ is a two-way, real-time voice and text translations of phone calls within the native app. No third-party apps are required, and on-device AI keeps conversations completely private, according to Samsung.

Galaxy S24 series marks a milestone in the history of search as the first phone to debut intuitive, gesture-driven ‘Circle to Search’ with Google.

With a long press on the home button, you can circle, highlight, scribble on or tap anything on Galaxy S24 Ultra’s screen to see helpful, high-quality search results.

If you see a friend wearing a stunning jacket, you can just focus on the jacket, use the ‘Circle to Search’ feature and the AI-driven search will offer multiple options when to buy that jacket from online, without having to leave the app.

Depending on your location, for certain searches, generative AI-powered overviews can provide helpful information and context pulled together from across the web, and you can ask more complex and nuanced questions.

With the ‘Interpreter’ feature, live conversations can be instantly translated on a split-screen view so people standing opposite each other can read a text transcription of what the other person has said. The feature even works without cellular data or Wi-Fi.

For messages and other apps, the ‘Chat Assist’ feature can help perfect conversational tones to ensure communication sounds as it was intended: like a polite message to a coworker or a short and catchy phrase for a social media caption.

AI built into Samsung Keyboard can also translate messages in real time in 13 languages.

The Indian organisations will also get a big boost with ‘Note Assist’ in Samsung Notes, featuring AI-generated summaries, template creation that streamlines notes with pre-made formats and cover creation to make notes easy to spot with a brief preview.

For voice recordings, when there are multiple speakers, the ‘Transcript Assist’ feature uses AI and speech-to-text technology to transcribe, summarise and even translate recordings.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform. The device offers superior usability and faster and smoother gameplay, alongside the Ray tracing module for a more immersive gaming experience.

Galaxy S24 Ultra design utilised titanium for the first time for a premium feel and enhanced durability. The thinnest model yet, the device features a flat front edge display compatible with the S Pen and a more vivid and durable screen with even bezels.

Now comes to the camera. The ‘ProVisual Engine’ is a comprehensive suite of AI-powered tools that transforms image capturing abilities and maximises creative freedom, taking care of shaky, pixelated images taken from far away.

Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Quad Tele System, with new 5x optical zoom lens, works with the 50MP sensor to enable optical-quality performance at zoom levels from 2x, 3x, 5x to 10x10 magnification, thanks to Adaptive Pixel Sensor. Images also show crystal clear results at 100x with enhanced digital zoom.

With upgraded Nightography capabilities, you will find that photos and videos shot on Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Space Zoom are brilliant in any condition, even when zoomed in.

You will also be able to capture more light in dim conditions with Galaxy S24 Ultra’s larger pixel size, now 1.4 micrometre, which is 60 per cent bigger compared to S23 Ultra.

Blur is reduced on Galaxy S24 Ultra with wider optical image stabiliser (OIS) angles and enhanced hand-shake compensation.

When recording videos, both front and rear cameras are equipped with ‘Dedicated ISP Block’ for noise reduction.

To give you even more creative freedom, ‘Generative Edit’ can fill in parts of an image background with generative AI.

When a picture is crooked, AI will fill in the borders. When an object needs to be slightly moved to be in the perfect position, AI will let you adjust the position of the subject and generate a perfectly blended background in its original spot.

For gamers, Galaxy S24 Ultra offers an optimal thermal control system with a 1.9 times larger vapour chamber, improving device surface temperature.

The Corning Gorilla Armor display is optically enhanced and demonstrates superior durability against damage caused by everyday scratches.

In India, Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra in Titanium Gray, Titanium Violet and Titanium Black colours starts from Rs 129,999 (12GB+256GB variant).

The 12GB+512GB variant costs Rs 139,999 and 12GB+1TB model of Galaxy S24 Ultra will come at Rs 159,999.

In India, customers pre-booking Galaxy S24 Ultra get benefits worth Rs 22,000 and the effective price can go pretty low with device upgrade and other offers.

Conclusion: In a saturated smartphone market, Galaxy S24 Ultra promises fresh air, with practical, real-life use cases of AI that will make your life easy.

Remember: The primary use of a smartphone is to communicate and Galaxy S24 Ultra does exactly that with the help of AI, in a much smarter way.

According to the market research firm Canalys, Indian smartphone vendors benefited from strong demand throughout the festival season, driving Q4 sales to 38.9 million units -- a remarkable 20 per cent increase in comparison to the previous year.

“In 2023, growing investment in mainline retail space proved beneficial not only for vendors but also allowed the overall market to stabilise,” said Sanyam Chaurasia, Senior Analyst at Canalys.

Samsung maintained the top position in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2023 with a market share of 20 per cent and shipments of 7.6 million units. Xiaomi continued its robust performance, claiming second place by shipping 7.2 million units. Vivo secured third position with shipments of seven million units, while realme and OPPO rounded out the top five by shipping 4.5 million and 3.7 million units, respectively, the report mentioned.

“The premium segment witnessed robust growth, thanks to easy financing options, incentive schemes for retailers and rising disposable income,” said Chaurasia.

“With the celebration of Diwali in November 2023, Apple got the opportunity to push the latest iPhone 15 series during the festive sales, contributing more than 50% to its shipments in Q4," he added.

The analyst also noted that Samsung had set aggressive retail targets for its premium Galaxy S23 series to drive premium segment growth. Along with this, Samsung’s latest Galaxy S23 FE launch in Q4 drove shipments, due to compelling banking deals.

“Canalys expects the Indian smartphone market to grow by mid-single digits in 2024, driven by affordable 5G and the pandemic period replacement cycle. But the biggest challenge for vendors this year will be to manage the rising bill of materials costs,” Chaurasia stated.

According to the Financial Times, battery manufacturers, such as Desay of China, have been encouraged to establish new factories in India, while Simplo Technology, a Taiwanese battery supplier for Apple, has been asked to increase manufacturing in India for future orders.

Earlier this week, Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar said Japanese electronic parts maker TDK Corp will manufacture lithium-ion (li-ion) battery cells for Apple iPhones in India.

"Another big win for PM @narendramodi ji's visionary PLI scheme in shifting the mobile manufacturing ecosystem to India. TDK, a leading supplier of cells to Apple, is setting up a 180-acre facility in Manesar, Haryana to build cells for batteries which will be used in the #MadeInIndia iPhones," he wrote on X.

Companies like Desay and Simplo package the electric cells produced by TDK and their counterparts into modules and send them to assemblers such as Taiwanese contract manufacturer Foxconn, the report mentioned.

Foxconn plans to invest $1.54 billion in India. In a stock exchange filing, Foxconn said that the investment will help it fulfil "operational needs."

Meanwhile, Apple has asked the Indian government to exempt its existing iPhones from the requirement of a common charging port (USB-C) for electronics devices, as the Centre evaluates the possibility of mandating a common charger for most devices.

In a meeting with the IT Ministry officials late last month, Apple told the officials that if such a rule -- similar to what has been proposed by the European Union (EU) to require devices to have universal charging ports -- is brought, it may hamper its domestic manufacturing plans, reliable sources told IANS.
