Indore, October 18 – A massive fire broke out in a three-storey house in Indore late Friday night, leading to the death of an 11-year-old boy from suffocation, while five members of his family fell seriously ill due to smoke inhalation. The incident took place in the Juni Indore area, as confirmed by the local police.

As per agency report, the fire erupted around 2:15 a.m. in the residence of a scrap dealer, reportedly due to a short circuit. The front portion of the house was used to store scrap materials, while the family lived in the rear section. The presence of foam and sponge among the scrap items caused the flames to spread rapidly throughout the building.

According to Police Station In-Charge Anil Gupta, the narrow structure of the house had only one entrance and no ventilation, making it difficult for the smoke to escape. The family of six living on the first floor began to suffocate as thick smoke filled the house, though none of them suffered burn injuries.

Rescue teams, along with firefighters, managed to pull all six members out of the house and rush them to a nearby hospital, where 11-year-old Rehman was declared dead on arrival. The remaining five, including Rehman’s parents, two sisters, and a brother, were hospitalized in critical condition. Four of them are currently on life support, officials said.

Gupta added that another family residing on the second floor was safely rescued by the emergency team using a tree adjacent to the house. The police have launched a detailed investigation into the cause and circumstances of the fire.

Gujarat is gearing up to welcome its third Vande Bharat Express train, which will also be the second to serve the city of Surat. The Western Railway recently announced its plans to operate this high-speed train between Udhna and Indore. Although the official start date has yet to be disclosed, the approximate timetable for the train has been released.

The Vande Bharat Express will leave Indore at 5:50 a.m. and is scheduled to reach Udhna at 1:20 p.m. The return trip from Udhna will commence at 1:55 p.m., with the train arriving back in Indore at 9:30 p.m. The new service will operate six days a week, excluding Tuesdays, and will make stops at Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Ratlam, and Ujjain. The train will cover the 570-km distance in approximately 7.5 hours, maintaining an average speed of 76 km/h.

Boost for Devotees of Ujjain Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga
This new train service is particularly good news for devotees visiting the Ujjain Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, one of the 12 self-proclaimed Jyotirlingas in India. Located in Ujjain, the Mahakaleshwar Temple draws crowds throughout the year, with especially high footfall during the months of Mahashivratri and Shravan. The Vande Bharat Express is expected to facilitate easier pilgrimages, especially for those traveling from South Gujarat.

Although many trains are experiencing increased speeds, the Vande Bharat Express to Surat is set to operate at an average speed of just 74-75 km/h. New Delhi, Friday - The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has announced the winners of the India Smart City Awards Competition (ISAC) 2022 under the Smart Cities Mission. Among the accolades, Indore received the National Small City Award, Madhya Pradesh won the State Award, and Chandigarh bagged the Union Territory Award.

The competition attracted a total of 845 nominations from 80 eligible smart cities. From this pool, 66 finalists emerged victorious in five distinct award categories: 35 in Project Award, six in Innovation Award, 13 in National/Zonal City Award, five in State/UT Award, and seven in Partner Award.

Cities and Categories

Coimbatore secured the top ranking in the built environment category. Ahmedabad won in the Culture and Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) category. Other cities receiving recognition include Jabalpur for Economy, Chandigarh for Governance and Mobility, Indore for Sanitation, Water and Urban Environment, and Vadodara for Social Aspects. Hubli and Dharwad were also selected for awards. Surat won in two separate categories: Innovative Idea and Covid Innovation.

Indigo Airlines has reopened bookings for  fights connecting Surat to Udaipur and Indore, set to commence on August 21. This decision comes on the heels of a sudden suspension of bookings for these routes, as well as the Surat-Kolkata route which began on July 1 and July 3 respectively.

While this move bolsters Surat's connectivity with two additional cities, the Kolkata-Surat connection remains in limbo. The earlier suspension led to a flurry of cancellations for passengers who had opted for the Kolkata-Bangkok-Surat route, resulting in palpable dissatisfaction amongst Surat's travel community. However, in a gesture of goodwill, Indigo redirected affected passengers through the Bengaluru-Bangkok-Surat route, ensuring ticket refunds and rebookings.

Moreover, Indigo has opted for a 72-seater ATR aircraft for its Surat-Udaipur and Surat-Indore journeys, aligning with the anticipated travel demand.

In related news, there's ongoing discussion about the naming of Surat airport. Proposals by local citizens and organizations suggest naming it after notable figures like Veer Kavi Narmad and Morarji Desai. The event aimed to raise public awareness about sickle cell anemia, a genetic disease that has been causing distress to patients and their families. Member of Parliament Shankar Lalwani, during the program, launched a website (www.sicklecell.co.in) created by Dr. AK Dwivedi, which contains comprehensive information about the disease.

Until recently, sickle cell anemia remained relatively unknown in Indore, but with growing concern from the Prime Minister and the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, public awareness has become crucial. Sickle cell anemia poses significant challenges for patients and their families, with limited success in conventional medical treatments. However, Dr. AK Dwivedi, an expert in homeopathic medicine, asserts that homeopathy can alleviate the problems faced by sickle cell anemia patients. As a nation known for its youth, it is imperative to educate and create awareness among the younger generation about sickle cell anemia. Additionally, Dr. Dwivedi recommends conducting blood tests and matching blood reports before marriage to prevent the transmission of sickle cell anemia to future generations.

MP Shankar Lalwani addressed a workshop on the significance of homeopathic medicine in sickle cell disease on Sunday, coinciding with World Sickle Cell Day. Dr. AK Dwivedi, a member of the Central Council for Homeopathic Research in the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, presided over the workshop. Dr. Dwivedi discussed the symptoms of sickle cell anemia, such as weakness, fatigue, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, and difficulty performing daily tasks. He emphasized the effectiveness of homeopathic medicine in addressing these issues, noting that long-term homeopathic treatment eliminates the need for repeated blood transfusions and enables patients to resume their daily activities. The workshop witnessed significant attendance from youth and medical students, who also underwent free blood tests. Additionally, participants actively engaged in environmental conservation by planting pomegranate and gooseberry plants.

Following the program, a free homeopathic camp was organized in the village of Badgonda, Mhow tehsil, where homeopathic medicines were distributed after careful examination of sickle cell anemia patients. Attendees were also provided with detailed information regarding diet, yoga asanas, and daily routines to manage the disease effectively.
