New Delhi, March 9 (IANS) India batter Prithvi Shaw, who was in the headlines recently after an altercation at a nightclub with social media influencer Sapna Gill, on Thursday shared a cryptic story on his Instagram account that left the fans baffled.

"Some people will only love you, as much as they can use you. Their loyalty ends where the benefits stop," Shaw wrote in his Instagram story.

However, it is unclear whom the post was aimed at.

Shaw was recently embroiled in some major controversy when he got involved in an altercation at a Mumbai nightclub with social media influencer Sapna Gill and her friends. He was allegedly attacked and a car in which he was travelling with friends was struck with baseball bats by some fans insisting on a repeat selfie with them.

The fiery opener last played an international game for India in a T20I against Sri Lanka in 2021. Shaw was selected in the T20I squad for the home series against New Zealand in January but failed to make the final playing XI in any of the games.

The right-hander will next be seen in action for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2023, starting on March 31.

Mumbai, Feb 17 (IANS) Bhojpuri films actress and social media celeb Sapna Gill was arrested late on Thursday in connection with the alleged assault on cricketer Prithvi Shaw and damaging the car in which he was travelling, Mumbai Police said on Friday.

She was produced before an Andheri Magistrate Court which sent her to police custody till February 20, officials said.

Late on Wednesday, Shaw and his friends - who stepped out after dinner at a five-star hotel - were accosted by Sapna Gill and her friends who insisted on clicking selfies with the cricketer.

Though he obliged the first and second time, Shaw refused the third plea for selfies which apparently enraged Gill and her friends, and she tried to hit him with a baseball bat and even damaged the windshield of the car in which he was travelling.

As Shaw and his friends drove off, Gill and her friends chased them in another car and were stopped at a police check post nearby in Santacruz.

On Thursday, Shaw's friends lodged a complaint with Oshiwara Police Station against Gill and at least seven others under various charges including rioting, extortion, assault, etc, and police managed to arrest her late last night.

Videos of the shocking incident, shot by some bystanders, went viral in which the celeb cricket star is seen grappling with Gill wielding the bat ostensibly to hit him and he trying to save himself.

Gill subsequently made a counter-claim that Shaw had allegedly tried to assault her first and she was defending herself.

Hailing from Chandigarh, Gill, 32, is based in Mumbai and is a social media influencer on several channels like YouTube, Instagram, Josh, SnapChat, etc., besides dancing, acting in several Bhojpuri films in the past decade with top stars like Ravi Kishen, Pawan Singh, Dineshlal Yadav and many others.

Following a complaint lodged by the friends of Shaw, 23, the Oshiwara police on Thursday registered a case against at least eight accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to unlawful assembly, intent to harm with weapons, etc, an official said.

It was on Wednesday night when Shaw and friends, including Ashish Yadav, stepped out after having dinner at a suburban five-star hotel near the Mumbai Airport. Just then, they were accosted by some purported fans who asked for selfies with Shaw and he obliged them, but a couple of them insisted on a second selfie which he refused, saying he wanted privacy with his friends. Enraged at the denial, the so-called fans allegedly pounded and shattered his friend's car's windshield with a baseball bat and tried to chase Shaw with the weapon.

In a viral video of the incident posted by some bystanders, the celeb cricketer can be seen wrestling with a young woman fan wielding a baseball bat ostensibly to assault him as he tries to save himself.

As Shaw and his group drove off, the fans followed them in their vehicle and both the cars stopped near a police check-post before the matters seemed to calm down.
