New Delhi, December 9. The Goa Police has approached the Central Bureau of Investigation to seek the issuance of an Interpol Blue Notice against Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, the owners and main accused in the tragic nightclub fire case. Officials confirmed on Tuesday that the move aims to locate the duo who fled the country following the blaze that claimed twenty-five lives.

The incident occurred late Saturday night at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub situated in Arpora, approximately twenty-five kilometers from Panaji. As per agency report, it is believed that the owners, Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, escaped to Phuket in Thailand just hours after the tragedy unfolded. The police disclosed this information on Monday while detailing the sequence of events following the fire.

An Interpol Blue Notice is issued to collect additional information concerning a person's identity, location, or activities in relation to a criminal investigation. The agency is currently in contact with Interpol following the request from the Goa Police to trace the fugitives. Officials clarified that a Red Notice, which allows for the detention of fugitives, can only be issued after a charge sheet is filed and a non-bailable warrant is secured against the wanted individuals.

A senior police officer stated that steps have been initiated to coordinate with the Interpol division of the CBI to apprehend Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra at the earliest. The devastating fire resulted in the deaths of twenty staff members of the nightclub and five tourists, four of whom were from Delhi. Additionally, five injured individuals are currently undergoing treatment at the government-run Goa Medical College and Hospital.

Panaji, October 20 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Diwali with Indian Navy personnel aboard the country’s indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, describing it as a monumental symbol of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and a testament to India’s growing technological prowess and self-reliance.

As per agency report, the Prime Minister arrived in Goa on Sunday evening and boarded the indigenously built aircraft carrier stationed off the Goan coast. After embarking on INS Vikrant, he proceeded to the flight deck surrounded by MiG-29K fighter jets and witnessed both day and night operations, observing the fighter aircraft taking off and landing on the carrier’s short runway.

The evening also featured a vibrant cultural program by naval officers and sailors, who performed patriotic songs, including a special composition commemorating the Indian Armed Forces’ success in Operation Sindoor. Sources said the Prime Minister was deeply moved by the performance and the spirit of the naval personnel.

On Monday morning, Modi participated in a yoga session on the deck of INS Vikrant, followed by a spectacular display of warships in a steampast and aircraft in a flypast formation. He also addressed the naval officers with an inspiring speech and distributed sweets to mark the festive occasion.

The Prime Minister said that INS Vikrant is not merely a warship but a living example of India’s hard work, innovation, and commitment in the 21st century. He noted that the BrahMos missile has now become a symbol of strength that commands respect globally, with several countries expressing interest in purchasing it.

Expressing his emotions, Modi stated that celebrating Diwali with the armed forces was a special experience, adding that the energy and enthusiasm he witnessed among the naval personnel filled him with immense pride.

India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, was commissioned into the Navy in 2022. Described as a “floating city,” it is the largest warship ever constructed in India and the country’s second operational aircraft carrier after INS Vikramaditya. Prime Minister Modi has maintained the tradition of celebrating Diwali with India’s armed forces since 2014.

Panaji, May 21 — Goa witnessed a second consecutive day of rainfall on Wednesday, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy rain in the state through May 26. In response, the state government has taken precautionary steps to ensure public safety, including banning access to popular tourist spots like the Dudhsagar waterfalls.

Referring to the IMD’s weather advisory, Goa's Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane issued a statement urging both residents and visitors to prioritize their safety during this period of adverse weather. He specifically appealed to the public to avoid visiting waterfalls and areas considered high-risk due to slippery terrain and strong water currents.

Citing the danger posed by fast-flowing water and slick rocks, Rane confirmed that entry to the Dudhsagar waterfalls has been restricted until further notice. He further advised people to steer clear of other such natural attractions during this time.

As per agency report, the IMD warned of widespread rainfall across Goa, with the possibility of “heavy to very heavy” showers in some areas. The weather bureau added that between May 21 and 23, the region could also experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, scattered rainfall, and strong winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have requested cooperation from the public to avoid accidents and ensure safety during the ongoing spell of inclement weather.

Ratnagiri, May 19 – A tragic road accident occurred on the Mumbai-Goa Highway near Jagbudi River in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district, resulting in the deaths of five individuals and leaving one seriously injured. As per agency report, the victims were travelling from Mira Road in Mumbai to Devrukh in Ratnagiri to attend a funeral when the vehicle lost control and plunged into the river.

The accident took place when the driver lost control of the car while navigating a stretch near the Jagbudi River. The vehicle veered off the road and fell into the water. Five passengers died on the spot due to the impact, while the driver sustained serious injuries.

Upon receiving information about the incident, local residents rushed to the scene and promptly informed the police. Emergency responders arrived shortly thereafter, transporting the injured driver to a nearby hospital for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were recovered and sent for postmortem examination.

This incident adds to a series of road accidents that have occurred in Maharashtra in recent weeks. On April 28, a collision near Bela village on the Mumbai-Kolkata National Highway in Bhandara district claimed four lives and left one person critically injured. A Bolero vehicle travelling from Raipur to Nagpur was struck by a speeding truck approaching from the opposite direction, resulting in the fatalities.

Earlier, on April 18, a BMC garbage truck overturned on the Eastern Express Highway in Mumbai’s Chembur area, killing one laborer and injuring two others. On April 15, in Buldhana district, three people were killed and 20 injured when a Madhya Pradesh Transport Corporation bus collided with a brick-laden truck on the Khamgaon-Nandura highway.

These incidents highlight the growing concerns over road safety in Maharashtra, with authorities urging drivers to exercise caution, especially on high-speed corridors and highways prone to accidents.

Panaji, May 3 – A tragic stampede during a temple festival in North Goa early Saturday morning claimed the lives of six people and left 30 others injured. The incident occurred at the Shri Lairai Devi Temple in Shirgaon, approximately 40 kilometers from Panaji.

As per agency report, the stampede broke out around 3 AM during the annual religious gathering, which draws thousands of devotees from across Goa, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. A senior police officer stated that narrow lanes leading to the temple became overcrowded as worshippers surged forward, resulting in chaos and panic.

Director General of Police Alok Kumar confirmed the death toll and said that many of the injured are currently undergoing treatment in various hospitals across the state. He explained that a slope near the temple became the focal point of the incident. Several people lost their footing on the incline and fell, triggering a domino effect where others stumbled over them, leading to the fatal stampede. Around 40 to 50 individuals were caught in the fall, though the situation remained confined to the sloped area.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant visited the North Goa District Hospital to meet the injured and assess the situation firsthand. In a message shared on social media platform X, he expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured all possible assistance to affected families. He also stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spoken with him over the phone, offering full support and resources to handle the situation.

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane reported that at least 30 individuals were injured, including eight in critical condition. Two of them were referred to Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim, while eight others were admitted to the district hospital. An additional ten people with minor injuries were treated on-site.

The health department launched an immediate emergency response. Rane said the 108 ambulance service was promptly activated, deploying five ambulances to the temple area shortly after the incident. Three more were stationed at the district hospital. Additional doctors were summoned, and a dedicated ICU equipped with ventilators was set up to handle critical cases.

Rane affirmed that all necessary arrangements had been made and that the condition of each patient was being closely monitored. The tragedy has cast a shadow over what was meant to be a celebratory religious event and has prompted renewed discussions on crowd control measures at large public gatherings in the region.

In a critical early morning operation on Friday, the Indian Navy rescued three injured crew members from a Panama-flagged cargo vessel, MV Heilan Star, located approximately 230 nautical miles west of Goa. The rescued individuals include two Chinese nationals and one Indonesian citizen. A fourth crew member, also a Chinese national, was reported dead before the rescue could take place.

As per agency report, the Indian Navy launched the emergency medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) operation after receiving an alert from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai during the night of March 20–21. The alert informed that four crew members aboard MV Heilan Star had suffered severe burns and were in urgent need of advanced medical attention.

Responding swiftly, the Navy diverted two of its ships, INS Vikrant and INS Deepak, from their existing deployments to assist in the mission. The rescued individuals were airlifted to INS Hansa in Goa and subsequently transferred to a civilian hospital for further treatment.

The Indian Navy’s prompt and effective response highlights its operational readiness and commitment to humanitarian missions in the region. The rescue operation, conducted under challenging conditions far from the coast, underscores India’s growing maritime capabilities and its role as a reliable responder in regional maritime emergencies.

Surat, March 8 – In a significant development for Surat travelers, Air India Express has announced the launch of a direct flight from Surat to Goa, starting March 30. The flight will complete the journey in just two hours, with a one-way fare set at ₹5,800. Bookings for the service have already begun.

As per agency reports, the Surat-Goa flight will depart from Surat at 7:30 PM and arrive in Goa at 9:25 PM. Following its stop in Goa, the flight will continue to Bengaluru, allowing passengers traveling between Surat and Bengaluru to remain on the same aircraft without changing flights. The return flight from Bengaluru will take off at 3:45 PM and land in Surat at 7:20 PM. From Surat, it will then depart at 7:50 PM and reach its final destination at 11:25 PM.

Currently, IndiGo operates one daily and one weekly flight between Surat and Goa. With Air India Express adding this third flight, connectivity between the two destinations will improve further. Additionally, the summer schedule, set to take effect from March 28, is expected to introduce several new flights from Surat International Airport.

Surat has also recently witnessed international connectivity expansion. Earlier, flights from Surat to Mauritius were introduced, with IndiGo launching a flight via Bengaluru on December 4. Operating four times a week, the Mauritius-bound service takes approximately 14 hours, including a 6-hour, 25-minute layover in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, domestic air connectivity in Gujarat is also improving, with winter flight plans being developed for key airports in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot.

Mumbai, 10 July (HS): A major block on Mumbai-Goa Highway from July 11 to 13 has been announced, because of the installation work of girders on new Mhaisdara bridge at Pui near Kolad. The road will be blocked in two phases between 6 am and 8 and, and 2 pm and 4 pm.

2. From Wakant Fata to Pali-Rawalje-Kolad or Pali-Rawalje-Nizampur-Mangaon and then onto the highway.
3. Vehicles on Khopoli-Pali-Wakan national highway can take Pali-Rawalje-Kolad or Pali-Rawalje—Nizampur-Mangaon to Mumbai-Goa Highway.

For those going to Mumbai from Goa, the alternative routes are
1. From Kolad to Rohe-Bhise Khind-Wakan Fata or from Nagothane to the highway.
2. From Kolad to Rawalje-Pali-Khopoli and to the national highway.
3. From Kolad to Rawalje-Pali-Wakan Fat to highway.
