The Bengaluru-based professional services firm has been ranked 64th spot in the top 100 list.

“Infosys has been featured in TIME World’s Best Companies 2023 list. We are among the top 3 global professional services firms and the only brand from India in the Top 100 global rankings,” the company said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

The list, curated by TIME and Statista, is dominated by global Big Tech companies like Microsoft, Apple, Alphabet (Google’s parent company) and Meta Platforms which were the top four companies on the list.

Other top companies in the coveted list are Accenture, Pfizer, American Express, BMW Group, Dell Technologies, Louis Vuitton, Delta Air Lines, Starbucks, Volkswagen Group, General Motors, Ford and others.

The list is based on a formula of revenue growth, employee-satisfaction surveys, and rigorous environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG, or sustainability) data. Big Tech had a tough year, laying off tens of thousands of workers since January.

But the world’s biggest tech companies are also the ones doing best for investors, employees, and the planet.

“Microsoft, for example, the top company in the global rankings, made $72 billion in its most recent fiscal year, a 63 per cent increase from 2020, while also reducing overall emissions by 0.5 per cent,” said TIME.

Accenture, based in Dublin, had the highest ESG ranking of any company on the list.

“The rankings show just who dominates the world economic order, with fast-moving tech and business-services companies unseating the manufacturers and consumer-goods companies that once drove the global economy,” the magazine said.

He said this after launching a biography on the life and times of Madan Mohanka, an entrepreneur and Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) alumni.

The book, titled: "I Did What I Had To Do", was authored by Anjana Dutt, an advertising professional, and details Mohanka's rise to success and the belief systems that paved the way for his meteoric journey. The event took place in Ahmedabad.

In his speech, Murthy praised Mohanka's story, saying that it provides valuable insights and inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs as well as business leaders.

He said, "A man who believes in action, his biography is aptly titled 'I Did What I Had To Do' and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about his life, his business acumen and his dedication to education for the disadvantaged."

When asked about his own leadership journey, Murthy credited Mahatma Gandhi as his inspiration, saying, "He believed that whenever you take a decision, think of the poor people who will get affected by that decision."

He then went on to speak about his experience in building Infosys, a global leader in consulting and IT services, in the 1990s. He described how he used to take only 1/10th of his salary and give 20 per cent extra to his junior colleagues, leading by example and instilling a sense of responsibility among his team.

Murthy stressed the importance of humility, saying, "There were people smarter than me in my college and later in my industry, but humility is something that helped me soar in my career. Always have your feet on the ground."

Murthy also shared one thing he feels bad about, "I feel bad that I invited my mother to visit Infosys only when she was dying. I was so busy building Infosys."

Murthy also shared his thoughts on the importance of faculty members understanding industry happenings, stating that management is all about utilising resources to achieve a certain objective. "Faculty members can also help CEOs in building a better company," he said.

Mohanka, born in 1943, is an octogenarian who has witnessed post-liberalisation India and has contributed significantly to the country's growth as a financial capital of the world.

The book, based on extensive interviews with Mohanka and his family, friends, classmates, and colleagues, provides insights into his early life, the impact of his learnings at IIM-A, his entrepreneurial genius, his decision-making abilities in times of crisis, and the value systems that helped him overcome the challenges he faced along the way.

A local, Francisco Fernandes, known as Pele, feels himself lucky to provide water sports services to Murthy's family at Benaulim beach for two days.

Speaking to IANS, Pele said that Akshata Murthy and her family were so simple and down to earth that he was shocked to notice it.

"My doctor friend and her wife were on the beach when this family was interacting with me. She (doctor's wife) asked me 'Pele do you know whom you are talking to, she is the wife of UK's Prime Minister'. I was shocked as they were very simple and down to earth," Pele said.

"First day they enjoyed the 'Jet Ski' ride and the second day, I took them for a boat ride. I showed them dolphins in the sea. They were very much happy," Pele, who also has a water sports business, said.

"UK Prime Minister's wife asked me, is water sports safe in Goa? I told her, 'Ma'am, it is 100 per cent safe and I will keep you and your family safe if they wish to enjoy water sports," he said.

"I told her that there are many Goans living in the UK and I want her to see that they are safe too. She replied 'done'. I was so happy at that time. She was very down to earth," Pele said.

"I am very much happy on their visit to Benaulim. They are so rich, but down to earth. God bless them and give them good health to protect the people of the UK," Pele said.
