Bengaluru, April 3 — A 29-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide after her 11-month-old son drowned in a bucket of water at their home in Bengaluru.

Police reported that the incident took place on April 1 in the Chandra Layout area. A letter written in English was found beside her bed, in which she stated that her son fell into the water and she could not save him, for which she apologized. The case came to light when her husband, engineer Mahantesh Vali, filed a complaint with the police.

The couple had been living in a rented house for the past four years and had an 11-month-old son named Agastya. According to the complaint, the woman, Pratibha Vali, was working from home for a tech company near Silk Board. On April 1, around 9 AM, Mahantesh left for work, leaving his wife and child at home. When he returned around 6:30 PM and knocked on the door, there was no response. He called his wife but received no answer.

A senior police officer reported that he then retrieved a spare key from near the window, opened the door, and entered the house. Inside, he found that his wife had allegedly hanged herself with a saree. He also noticed a cut on her left wrist and blood stains. The officer stated that their son Agastya was found lying on the bed and was pronounced dead upon inspection.

Police recovered an empty packet of 15 pills from the scene, and it is suspected that the woman may have consumed these pills. However, her husband has expressed doubts regarding the circumstances of their deaths and is seeking legal action. The police have stated that further investigation is ongoing.

Chitradurga, December 25. The driver of the bus involved in a collision with a truck in the Chitradurga district of Karnataka stated that he attempted to control his vehicle upon seeing the speeding truck approaching from the opposite direction but was unsuccessful. A senior police official confirmed that a speeding container truck collided with a private bus near Hiriyur around 2 AM on Wednesday, causing the bus to catch fire and resulting in the death of at least five people.

The bus driver, identified as Rafiq, sustained injuries in the accident and is currently undergoing treatment. Describing the incident, he explained that the truck crossed the divider and crashed into the oncoming bus. He noted that the truck was moving at a very high speed while he was driving at approximately sixty to seventy kilometers per hour. He recalled seeing the vehicle approaching and trying to maneuver the bus, which also grazed another vehicle passing alongside, but he ultimately lost control. He added that he only remembers the impact and is unaware of what transpired afterward or how he was rescued, as per agency report.

The bus conductor, Mohammed Sadiq, who suffered minor injuries and is also receiving medical attention, stated that the collision was so severe that he was thrown out of the vehicle. He mentioned that the oncoming truck struck the bus while he was sleeping in the front section. The impact shattered the windshield, causing him to fall out of the bus.

Regarding the casualties, the police initially cited a preliminary investigation suggesting that nine people had died in the accident, but they later issued a confirmation stating that the death toll stood at five.

Bengaluru, November 23. Amidst persistent speculations regarding a change of Chief Minister in Karnataka, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge stated on Sunday that the party High Command would take a decision on the matter and that he had nothing to say at the moment.

The statement from the Congress chief came a day after he held a meeting lasting over an hour with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Speaking to reporters at his residence, Kharge mentioned that he had nothing to say regarding the developments and suggested that the media was wasting its time waiting there. He emphasized that whatever needs to happen will be executed by the High Command and there is no need for further worry on the subject.

The Congress government in Karnataka completed two and a half years of its five-year tenure on November 20. Consequently, a power struggle has intensified within the ruling party amidst rumors of a leadership change. As per agency report, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, following his meeting with Kharge on Saturday night, stated that he would abide by the decision of the High Command and asserted that everyone else should do the same.

This was Siddaramaiah's second meeting with Kharge in less than a week, though he dismissed the ongoing discussions about leadership change as mere speculation. Prior to the Chief Minister's meeting with the AICC chief, some legislators supporting Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar had traveled to Delhi to meet Kharge on November 20. However, Shivakumar stated that he was unaware that the MLAs had gone to meet the party president. On Sunday, ministers H C Mahadevappa and K Venkatesh, considered close to the Chief Minister, also met Kharge at his residence.

Party sources indicate that while Siddaramaiah is pushing for a reshuffle of his cabinet, Shivakumar wants the party to first decide on the leadership change. Sources suggest that if the High Command approves a cabinet reshuffle, it would signal that the current Chief Minister will complete the full five-year term, thereby weakening Shivakumar's prospects of becoming Chief Minister. Following the announcement of assembly election results in May 2023, there was stiff competition for the post between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar. The party eventually persuaded Shivakumar to accept the role of Deputy Chief Minister. At that time, reports had emerged regarding a compromise based on a rotational formula where Shivakumar would take over after two and a half years, although the party never officially confirmed such an arrangement.

Hassan, Karnataka, Sept 13 – The death toll in the tragic accident during a Ganesh immersion procession in Hassan district has risen to nine, police officials confirmed on Saturday. The incident took place on Friday night in Mosale Hosahalli village of Arkalagudu taluk when a truck lost control and ploughed into the crowd.

According to police, the accident occurred after a motorcyclist suddenly came in front of the truck. In an attempt to avoid hitting the two-wheeler, the driver swerved but lost control of the vehicle, ramming it into people participating in the procession. Four people died on the spot, while four others succumbed to injuries later that night in hospital. On Saturday, another injured person died, raising the total fatalities to nine.

As per agency report, the Karnataka government has announced financial assistance for the victims’ families. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah declared that Rs 5 lakh compensation will be provided to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the accident.

Bengaluru is set to witness a significant boost in its urban infrastructure as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the much-awaited Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro on August 10. The announcement was made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tejasvi Surya on Sunday, who also confirmed that the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for Phase-3 of the metro network during his visit.

Surya, in a post on social media platform X, described the upcoming visit as historic for South Bengaluru. He emphasized that the Yellow Line's commencement and the initiation of Metro Phase-3 will benefit nearly 2.5 million residents in the region. He noted that the Yellow Line project will meet its targeted timeline of August 15 due to the Prime Minister’s personal intervention and insistence on timely completion for public benefit.

He stated that the Yellow Line spans 19.15 kilometers, stretching from RV Road to Bommasandra with 16 stations, and has been built at a cost of Rs 5,056.99 crore. Vijayanagar, Karnataka, May 20 – Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, while addressing a public rally in Karnataka’s Vijayanagar district, stated that the Congress government in the state has successfully fulfilled all five key guarantees promised during the assembly elections. The rally, titled 'Samarpan Sankalp Rally,' marked the completion of two years of the Congress-led government in Karnataka.

As per agency report, Gandhi took the opportunity to contrast the Congress's governance approach with that of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that while the BJP wants wealth and resources to benefit a select group of wealthy individuals, the Congress believes in channeling benefits to the poor.

Bengaluru, April 22 – In a twist to the recent road rage incident in Bengaluru, city police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against a 40-year-old Indian Air Force (IAF) officer based on a complaint filed by a call centre employee who was earlier arrested in connection with the same case. As per agency report, the incident took place on Monday morning near Baiyappanahalli when IAF Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose was allegedly assaulted during a confrontation while en route to the airport with his wife, also an IAF officer.

Earlier, the police had arrested a man named Vikas Kumar, a team head at a software company’s call centre, after the officer filed a complaint alleging physical assault and verbal abuse. The incident quickly gained attention after Bose posted a video online showing his alleged harassment by a group of Kannada-speaking individuals on a motorbike.

In a surprising development, Kumar later submitted a counter-complaint claiming that it was Bose who physically assaulted him and damaged his motorcycle. A video that surfaced from the scene shows a heated argument and physical altercation, with Bose seen hitting Kumar while his wife attempts to intervene.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Devaraj D., an FIR has now been lodged at Baiyappanahalli police station against Bose under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code based on Kumar’s version of events. The DCP stated that preliminary investigation, including analysis of CCTV footage and videos recorded by bystanders, indicated that the altercation could have been avoided by both parties.

In a separate video message, Kumar’s mother Jyoti expressed concern over the handling of the case and alleged that the blame was being unfairly placed solely on her son. She appealed for justice and claimed that the IAF officer not only beat her son but also caused damage to his bike.

Police confirmed that the initial complaint was filed by Squadron Leader Madhumita Dutta, the officer’s wife, which led to Kumar’s arrest. Authorities have noted injuries sustained by both sides and stated that medical assistance was advised before formal registration of the complaint.

During questioning, Kumar claimed he had only asked for clarification after hearing a remark allegedly made by the officer’s wife. The situation then escalated, leading to the confrontation.

Police have acknowledged the presence of several video recordings and said that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the full sequence of events and assign responsibility accordingly.

Mangaluru, March 11 – Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif visited the Kukke Sri Subramanya Temple in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday to perform a special ritual.

As per agency report, Katrina arrived at the temple with a few friends to participate in the Sarpa Samskara ritual, a two-day prayer ceremony that will conclude on Wednesday afternoon. The temple administration confirmed her presence and stated that she was observing the ritual, which is typically performed as a form of atonement for the unintentional death of a serpent (Naga Devata), either on one's property or by one's ancestors.

The ritual is conducted in two phases, spanning approximately four to five hours each day. Katrina is expected to remain at the temple’s VIP guest house and will complete the ceremony by Wednesday afternoon around 2 PM. Her visit has drawn significant attention, with devotees and temple officials noting her devotion to the spiritual practice.
