The BCCI has made a major decision to change the schedule of two matches between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during IPL 2026. As per the board, this step was taken in light of security arrangements due to the municipal elections taking place on April 26 in various parts of Gujarat and Ahmedabad.

The BCCI clarified that providing adequate police force and resources at the stadium due to the elections was a challenge, making it necessary to revise the schedule. According to the new schedule, the match originally set for April 26 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will now be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai at 3:30 PM. Conversely, the evening match proposed for May 21 in Chennai has now been moved to Ahmedabad.

This change will require fans to adjust their travel plans for matches at their favorite teams' home grounds. Voting will also take place on the same day in several other cities, including Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot. The Chennai Super Kings are currently struggling in the ongoing IPL 2026 season, having won only one of the four matches played so far, placing them ninth in the points table.

72 fishermen from Valsad and Navsari districts, stranded amid escalating war-like conditions between Iran and the US, have returned safely to their homeland. With the efforts of the Indian government, all the fishermen were first brought to Chennai Airport, from where they were transported to the Valsad Circuit House by two buses.

Upon their arrival in Valsad on Monday morning, the fishermen received a grand welcome. Gujarat government cabinet minister Kanubhai Desai, MLA Bharatbhai Patel, district collector Bhavya Verma, and several officials were present during the event. As soon as they returned home, the fishermen raised slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and became emotional upon reuniting with their families.

According to reports, these fishermen had gone to Iran for employment and had been stranded there since February 28 due to war-like conditions. As the situation worsened, they made a video pleading for help, prompting the administration to take action. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the efforts of External Affairs Minister S.

Jaishankar, discussions were held with the Iranian government to ensure their safe return. Fisherman Rajeshbhai Patel mentioned that during the bombing, their boat's GPS system had failed, and they were forced to stay in a room in fear for a month. With the airport closed, there was no hope of returning, but with the help of the Indian government, they were safely evacuated.

After arriving in India from Iran, Union Minister Piyush Goyal also welcomed them at Chennai Airport. This successful rescue operation not only demonstrates the government's promptness but also exemplifies its commitment to citizens in times of crisis.

In Gandhinagar, Gujarat, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Gujarat CID arrested two individuals with approximately 12 kilograms of narcotics (ganja) during a special operation in the Mota Chiloda area. Officials reported this information on Friday.

Acting on specific information received during regular patrols, a team from the ANTF's Gandhinagar zone stopped a government bus at Chiloda Circle and apprehended two suspects accused of being involved in ganja smuggling. The accused have been identified as Viraj Solanki (26) from Daboda and Aditya alias Aadi Baraiya (22) from Chanakyapuri, Gandhinagar. According to officials, a total of 11.94 kilograms of ganja was seized during this operation, valued at 5.97 lakh rupees.

Additionally, two mobile phones worth 10,000 rupees were also confiscated, bringing the total value of the recovered items to 6.07 lakh rupees. The operation was conducted by a team led by Inspector N.R. Patel, which included officials such as K.M. Vadnagara, P.S. Jala, and P.M. Chavda, along with other staff and a technical expert.

A case has been registered under sections 8(c), 20(b)(2)(b), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Further investigation has been handed over to the Chiloda police station. This seizure is another step in the recent stringent actions against narcotics in Gujarat and other places.

Previously, in February, officials uncovered a large illegal cultivation of narcotics in Bhavnagar district and seized narcotics worth over 10.9 crore rupees, including ganja and opium, marking one of the largest seizures in the state to date. Earlier in March, law enforcement agencies also uncovered a large urban network for drug distribution and seized hybrid ganja worth over 26 lakh rupees from a rented apartment.

In another recent action, the ANTF seized 5.177 kilograms of ganja in the Prantij area of Sabarkantha district and arrested one suspect. Further investigation has been initiated to uncover the larger network associated with this supply.

Surat, March 29, 2026. The war-like situation in the Gulf region has started showing a significant impact on the industries of South Gujarat. To address these concerns, a high-level meeting was organized on Sunday under the chairmanship of Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi. The meeting was attended by various administrative officials and prominent representatives from the industrial sector.

During the session, a delegation from the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, including President Nikhil Madrasi, Vice President Ashok Jirawala, Honorary Treasurer Mitish Modi, and Secretary Polik Desai, presented a detailed report on the challenges facing the trade and industry sectors due to the Gulf crisis. As per agency report, the chamber specifically highlighted the negative consequences for the textile, plastic, diamond, and chemical industries, urging the government to implement immediate relief measures. They emphasized that without timely policy-based support, the condition of these industries could deteriorate further.

The chamber representatives explained that the depreciation of the rupee and fluctuations in foreign exchange have led to an increase in the cost of imported raw materials, which is severely affecting the profitability of various businesses. Additionally, the instability in crude oil prices has made it difficult for manufacturers to create stable production plans. The industrial sector is also facing disruptions in the supply of industrial gas, which is hampering the overall production process.

The crisis has also extended to the labor force, as a shortage of LPG cylinders in labor colonies is causing significant hardships for workers. This situation has prompted many laborers to return to their home states, creating a potential labor shortage for local industries. The diamond industry has been directly hit as well, with exports being affected by disruptions in international trading hubs like Dubai and Antwerp, leading to accumulated stock. To mitigate this, the chamber suggested that the government should allow re-import without customs duty and take steps toward making India a global trading hub.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi listened to the concerns raised by the chamber and assured the representatives that the state government would take swift and effective action to resolve the issues. He stated that the government stands firmly with the industries during this challenging period and remains committed to providing the necessary relief and support to ensure their stability.

Gandhinagar, March 28. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Gujarat for a one-day trip on Tuesday, March 31, to dedicate several railway projects worth 891 crore rupees to the people of the state. These projects, under the Ministry of Railways, are designed to strengthen connectivity, stimulate economic activities, and enhance transportation facilities for passengers.

As per agency report, the Prime Minister will virtually inaugurate these projects from Vav-Tharad in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. A major highlight of the visit will be the inauguration of a 55-kilometer new railway line from Himmatnagar to Khedbrahma, which has been constructed at a cost of 482 crore rupees. This project is expected to significantly improve connectivity in the Sabarkantha district, providing a direct link between Ahmedabad and Udaipur while ensuring faster and more affordable travel for the public.

The new railway infrastructure is anticipated to increase access to essential services such as healthcare and education, while also creating fresh livelihood opportunities for local communities. In addition to the Himmatnagar-Khedbrahma line, the Prime Minister will dedicate the 27-kilometer Kanalus-Jamnagar doubling project, built at a cost of 257 crore rupees, and the 11-kilometer Gandhidham-Adipur multitracking project. These initiatives aim to make train movement faster and more efficient, particularly for the movement of goods to major industrial hubs and Deendayal Port.

The development projects are also expected to play a vital role in boosting local tourism. During the program, the Prime Minister will flag off a new train service running from Khedbrahma to Ahmedabad via Himmatnagar. This new service is intended to make travel more convenient for the residents of the region and provide a boost to local economic development.

These efforts are part of a broader vision to modernize Indian Railways and make it more efficient. By ensuring connectivity to remote areas and enriching the overall travel experience, these initiatives aim to promote inclusive growth and strengthen the Indian economy.

Gandhinagar - The Gujarat government has approved road development works worth Rs 1,185 crore across five districts of South Gujarat as part of a comprehensive effort to strengthen logistics connectivity and support the long-term growth of the Surat Economic Region. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel cleared twenty-four projects aimed at widening and improving approximately 383 kilometers of roads in the districts of Surat, Tapi, Valsad, Navsari, and Dang.

These infrastructure initiatives are designed to enhance connectivity among industrial clusters, ports, and logistics centers in the area, facilitating their integration into global supply chains, as per agency report. The projects fall under a broader development framework centered around the Surat Economic Region, which the government intends to model after major international trade hubs such as Dubai and Guangzhou. The overarching goal is to solidify the role of Surat in international trade by bridging the gap between manufacturing centers and global markets.

Among the five districts, Surat has been allocated the largest share of the funds, receiving Rs 631 crore, which underscores its central position in the industrial and economic activities of the region. Valsad district has been granted Rs 264 crore, while the remaining funds will be utilized for projects in Navsari, Tapi, and Dang. These road development efforts are closely aligned with the economic master plan prepared by NITI Aayog for the Surat Economic Region.

The master plan, initiated in Surat about seventeen months ago, outlines a long-term strategy to transform the city and its neighboring districts into a prominent economic hub by the year 2047. When the plan was formulated in 2024, Chief Minister Patel described it as a reflection of the state commitment to visionary, dynamic, and inclusive development, serving as a vital component in nation-building rather than just a basic blueprint.

The industrial profile of South Gujarat played a crucial role in its selection as one of the four pilot city regions across the country for the economic master plan. Surat is globally recognized for its textile manufacturing and diamond cutting industries, while the surrounding districts host a diverse range of sectors including chemicals, pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, agro-processing, and small-scale manufacturing. Bharuch features a robust base in chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and petrochemicals, whereas Navsari is noted for agriculture, food processing, and small-scale production. Tapi engages in agro-processing, paper manufacturing, and dairy activities. Valsad combines chemical industries with trade and tourism, while the predominantly forested and tribal district of Dang relies primarily on farming, forest produce, and basic services.

The government is focusing on fortifying infrastructure to encourage economic diversity and balanced regional development. Recognizing that well-connected coastal and inland regions are emerging as significant global trade centers, the state is prioritizing logistics and transport connectivity. The region already benefits from extensive transportation facilities, including expressways, railway networks, ports, an international airport, and the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor. Together, these elements create a massive logistics network that links manufacturing hubs directly to ports and consumer markets.

Looking ahead, the state government has identified sustainable agriculture, real estate, tourism, information technology, and logistics as potential sectors for future expansion in the area. Officials estimate the current per capita gross domestic product of South Gujarat to be around 4,600 US dollars. Through continuous investments in infrastructure and industrial expansion under this long-term strategy, the government aims to elevate this figure to over 45,000 US dollars by 2047.

Surat. The Swami Vivekananda National Book Fair, Horticulture Fair-Flower Show, Shilpgram Fair, and Food Festival organized by the Surat Municipal Corporation was inaugurated at the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University ground by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in the special presence of Union Minister of Jal Shakti C.R. Patil. This multi-faceted fair is scheduled to continue until March 1, offering the people of Surat a unique opportunity to witness and enjoy a convergence of literature, horticulture, and handicrafts at a single location.

Following the inauguration, the Chief Minister inspected various stalls and sought details from the exhibitors. There is one dome with 44 stalls for the sculpture program and four domes with 40 stalls for plantation. A flower show has been created in the central part of the fair covering an area of 800 square meters. A special theme pavilion displays and sells books written by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as books by other authors regarding his life, work, and ideology, featuring a Namo Reading Corner and a section for writing letters to the PM.

The Horticulture Fair and Flower Show remain major attractions. The horticulture section includes stalls from 40 nurseries from Gujarat and Maharashtra, where citizens can purchase 45 different types of flowers, plants, gardening tools, and pots at reasonable prices. The flower show features eight diverse structures decorated with colorful flowers, including two selfie points and two gates, designed to raise awareness about government schemes such as the PM Awas Yojana, PM Jan Arogya Yojana, PM Surya Ghar Yojana, Jal Shakti Abhiyan, and Metro City projects.

The Shilpgram Fair showcases the artistic work of handicraft and handloom artisans, offering items such as Kutchi jewelry, embroidery, shell crafts, show-pieces, torans, and beadwork. The objective of this fair is to ensure that various handicraft and handloom arts do not vanish in the era of science and technology, and to encourage people to learn about and purchase art. The Surat Municipal Corporation held its first National Book Fair in May 2000, recognizing that the city is known not just for industry but also for literature and culture. Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], January 15: The revival and operationalization of Hindustan National Glass & Industries Limited’s (HNGIL) Nashik plant, expected to emerge as a major engine for manufacturing growth and job creation in Maharashtra, took centre stage on Thursday during a high-level meeting between the Madhvani Group leadership and  Acharya Devvrat , Governor of Maharashtra and Gujarat.

The delegation was led by Shrai Madhvani, Chairman, HNGIL and included  Nitin Gadhia, director, HNGIL; Kumar Krishnan, managing director, HNGIL; and   Suraj Mehta, chief strategy officer , HNGIL.

During the meeting, the HNGIL leadership highlighted that the Nashik facility, once fully operational, will significantly strengthen Maharashtra’s manufacturing ecosystem, catalyze allied industries, and create substantial direct and indirect employment. The plant is envisaged as a cornerstone of HNGIL’s growth strategy and a strong contributor to the state’s industrial output.
