Amidst the glittering attendance, it was Alia Bhatt who truly captivated, not just with her radiant presence, but with a deeply thoughtful sartorial choice that paid a heartfelt homage to the living legend, Rekha.Draped in a stunning rose pink saree, Alia’s ensemble was a direct and beautiful tribute to Rekha’s iconic look from the 1981 classic, "Silsila."

According to renowned Image Consultant Tina Walia,“Rose Pink was inspired by the trending colour of the year i.e. Crocus. The decision to channel Rekha's "Chandni " from"Silsila," especially at the premiere of another of Rekha's celebrated films, "Umrao Jaan," was a stroke of styling genius by Rhea Kapoor. Alia’s custom-made creation by Tarun Tahiliani was a delicate blush pink, flowing effortlessly and embodying a timeless elegance. The Silhouette was a beautiful blend of both structured as well as fluid silhouette. The saree itself was a vision of understated grace, allowing the nuanced details of the overall look to shine,”

Stylist Rhea Kapoor shared pictures of Rekha in the same look in her Instagram Stories as a reference point for the look on Alia

Tina Walia approves her look, and shares some key-points she decodes -

Alia Bhatt recently made headlines for her stunning appearance at the re-release premiere of the classic film "Umrao Jaan." She wore a beautiful rose pink saree by Tarun Tahiliani, which was a deliberate tribute to Rekha's iconic look from the 1981 film "Silsila."

Here are some key details about her look:

● Saree: A soft, rose pink chiffon or silk saree that elegantly draped her figure.

● Blouse: A unique "waterfall" design blouse with a high neck and cap sleeves, adding a modern touch to the traditional saree.

● Styling: Styled by Rhea Kapoor, the look aimed to recreate the essence of Rekha's character Chandni from "Silsila."

● Accessories: She kept her accessories minimal, opting for feather silver earrings, a delicate gold bracelet, and a diamond ring. She also carried a small black bindi and a cute clutch that matched her outfit.

● Hair and Makeup: Alia sported long, open hair, subtle makeup with a flush of pink on her cheeks, and glossy pink lips. Her eye makeup with kohl and eyeliner also paid homage to Rekha's signature look.

Tina further reiterates,“What set this tribute apart was the meticulous attention to detail. Alia's unique "waterfall" design blouse, featuring a high neck and cap sleeves, added a contemporary edge while still harmonizing perfectly with the classic drape of the saree. This blend of traditional silhouette with modern elements underscored Alia's distinct fashion sensibility, proving that a tribute can be both reverent and fresh,”

The accessories were chosen with precision, mirroring Rekha's signature style from "Silsila." Delicate feather silver earrings were a standout, subtly nodding to the original inspiration. Alia opted for minimal other adornments, including a dainty gold bracelet and a diamond ring, allowing the saree and its tribute to remain the focal point. Even a small black bindi and a subtly matched clutch contributed to the cohesive and well-thought-out aesthetic.

Her hair and makeup further cemented the homage. Alia wore her hair long and open, reminiscent of Rekha’s flowing tresses in "Silsila." Her makeup was kept dewy and fresh, with a soft flush of pink on her cheeks and glossy pink lips. Critically, her eye makeup, featuring artfully applied kohl and eyeliner, directly echoed Rekha’s intensely expressive eyes, which were a hallmark of her character in the film.

Social media erupted with praise for Alia's appearance, with fans and fashion critics alike applauding the respectful and beautifully executed tribute. Terms like "Khalia Bhatt" (a portmanteau of Khaleesi and Alia) trended, signifying the sheer power and impact of her look. Diet Sabya, a prominent fashion commentator, lauded the styling, asserting that "the only way to pay homage is to do it correctly or not do it at all. Reference done correct. Modern."

Alia herself expressed her deep admiration for Rekha, sharing photos on Instagram and captioning them with a heartfelt "An ode to a living legend there never, was, is or will ever be another like you, ReMaa 💕." This public declaration of respect resonated deeply with audiences, highlighting the warmth and appreciation within the industry.

“Alia Bhatt’s rose pink saree at the "Umrao Jaan" premiere was more than just a fashion statement; it was a testament to the enduring legacy of a legendary actress and a demonstration of how classic inspirations can be reimagined with contemporary grace. It was a moment that celebrated not only the re-release of a cinematic gem but also the timeless bond between generations of Indian cinema's leading ladies, concludes Tina.

The hashtag #IndiaAtCannes wasn't just a fleeting trend; it became a symbol of a powerful and stylish arrival on the global cinematic stage. Envision the seamless blend of Bollywood royalty, radiating timeless charisma, alongside the vibrant energy of India's leading digital influencers, each bringing their unique perspective to the Croisette. Their collective presence, marked by both individual flair and a deep respect for Cannes' sartorial traditions, undoubtedly turned heads and captured imaginations.

The prominent presence of Indian celebrities and influencers also hints at a fascinating democratization of the festival, bridging the gap between traditional cinema and the burgeoning world of online content creation. It feels like 2025 was the year India didn't just attend Cannes, but truly made its mark.

Expert Image Consultant Tina Singh Walia takes a deep dive into the red carpet moments and rounded up the s best-dressed Indian celebrities at Cannes 2025, who not only delivered fashion-forward looks but also honoured the spirit of this prestigious event.

Jacqueline Fernandez -

Jacqueline Fernandez's appearance at Cannes 2025 was a masterclass in red carpet dressing! She didn't just embrace the floral trend; she owned it with that bold blood-red corset gown. The juxtaposition of the clean, almost severe lines of the corset with the wildly romantic extravagance of those rose petal sleeves is just pure genius. It speaks to a confident understanding of fashion and how to create a memorable impact.

And her styling was impeccable. The delicate pearl and diamond necklace and the sleek low bun were the perfect understated complements, allowing the gown's dramatic silhouette and those show-stopping sleeves to command all the attention. This wasn't just a pretty dress; it was a carefully considered statement of elegance and high couture, further solidifying India's stylish presence at Cannes and undoubtedly adding another dazzling highlight to #IndiaAtCannes.

Parul Gulati -

Parul Gulati made a show-stopping debut at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, turning heads with an avant-garde fashion statement that seamlessly merged creativity with brand storytelling. The actress and entrepreneur wore a strapless gown made entirely from braided human hair—a bold homage to her hair extension brand.

It wasn’t just fashion—it was wearable art. A team of twelve skilled artisans spent over a month bringing this visionary piece to life, pushing the boundaries of couture and generating buzz both on and off the red carpet. Her appearance firmly established her as a bold voice in both entrepreneurship and red carpet innovation.

Shalini Passi -

Shalini Passi's appearance at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival was a masterclass in sartorial storytelling, seamlessly blending traditional Indian craftsmanship with contemporary design. She donned a custom ivory pantsuit by Jade by Monica & Karishma, a label renowned for its fusion of heritage and innovation.

The ensemble featured a meticulously tailored blazer adorned with loose thread details, creating abstract patterns in black and white. This design choice highlighted the intricate handwork that Jade by Monica & Karishma is renowned for, emphasizing the beauty of imperfection and the richness of Indian embroidery traditions.

Underneath, Shalini layered a white top and paired the look with matching pants. Her choice of accessories—a dual-layered gold necklace, black earrings, and coordinating rings—complemented the ensemble's understated opulence. True to her signature style, she carried a whimsical sequinned dog-shaped bag, adding a playful yet chic touch to the ensemble.

Fuschia’s focus on eco-conscious skincare and Physiovits’ dedication to tackling nutritional deficiencies in a preventive and science-backed manner reflect a broader trend in consumer behavior: a demand for transparency, quality, and social responsibility. Both brands are positioned for significant growth as consumers become more discerning, seeking products that align with their values, particularly in health and wellness.

Here is a tete-a-tete with Dr. Mohit Bhatia as he enlightens about his journey and future plans.

Dr. Bhatia, thank you for joining us today. To start, can you tell us a little about your background and how you got into the healthcare and wellness industry?

Dr. Mohit Bhatia: Thank you for having me! I have an MBA in healthcare management and a background in medico-marketing and clinical research. My journey into healthcare and wellness started with my work in international pharmaceutical MNCs, but in 2012, my brother, Paras Bhatia, my wife, Dr. Harsimran Kaur, and I launched Vkare Bio Sciences. Our first venture focused on manufacturing surgical instruments, and this laid the foundation for our future entrepreneurial endeavors in skincare and nutraceuticals.

Fuschia

That sounds like an exciting beginning! Fuschia, one of your standout ventures, was launched in 2013. What makes Fuschia unique in the skincare industry?

Dr. Mohit Bhatia: Fuschia is unique because it specializes in vegan, handmade, and natural skincare products. What sets us apart is our commitment to using premium natural ingredients, sustainable manufacturing practices, and eco-friendly packaging. We understand that consumers are looking for products that not only nurture their skin but also protect the planet. So, our focus is on creating high-quality, eco-conscious products that align with both personal and environmental well-being.

It’s great to see such a commitment to sustainability. How does Fuschia resonate with today’s consumers, particularly in terms of values and trends?

Dr. Mohit Bhatia: Consumers are increasingly prioritizing sustainability, natural ingredients, and ethical practices, especially when it comes to skincare. Fuschia taps into these growing concerns by offering products that are not only good for the skin but also for the planet. While our products may come at a higher price due to their premium quality, they appeal to those who value eco-conscious choices. This shift in consumer mindset toward ethical and sustainable products has helped Fuschia gain loyal customers who care about both health and the environment.

That’s definitely a timely approach. Now, moving on to Physiovits, another exciting brand you launched during the pandemic. What was the inspiration behind Physiovits?

Dr. Mohit Bhatia: The pandemic highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare and good nutrition, even among the privileged sections of society. That’s when we saw the urgent need for high-quality, evidence-backed nutraceuticals in India. The market was heavily dependent on imports, and there was a gap for trusted, local alternatives. Physiovits was created to address these nutritional deficiencies, particularly for the working, middle, and upper classes. We wanted to offer supplements that could help people lead healthier lives and bridge that gap in preventive health.

It sounds like you saw an opportunity to address a real need. How does Physiovits differentiate itself in the crowded nutraceutical market?

Dr. Mohit Bhatia: Physiovits stands out by focusing on scientifically backed, high-quality nutritional supplements. We developed our products with the help of a team of doctors and pharmacists to ensure they meet the highest standards of reliability and effectiveness. Additionally, our direct-to-consumer (D2C) model allows us to provide convenience and easy access to quality health products online. We also pride ourselves on our rigorous manufacturing processes, with products made in GMP-certified facilities. This focus on quality and transparency has helped build trust with our consumers.

That D2C approach is definitely in line with modern consumer preferences. The nutraceutical market in India is growing rapidly. How do you see Physiovits capitalizing on this trend?

Dr. Mohit Bhatia: The nutraceutical market in India is booming, and with the increasing health awareness among consumers, it’s expected to grow even more. Currently, India imports billions of dollars’ worth of nutraceuticals, which presents a huge opportunity for local brands. Physiovits capitalizes on this by offering high-quality, homegrown alternatives. Our focus on addressing common nutritional deficiencies and offering affordable, reliable solutions has made us a trusted brand in a market that was once heavily reliant on imports.

It’s exciting to see local brands making an impact. In terms of your broader vision, how do both Fuschia and Physiovits reflect your values of health, sustainability, and innovation?

Dr. Mohit Bhatia: Both Fuschia and Physiovits embody my belief in integrating sustainability, innovation, and health. Fuschia’s focus on natural skincare and eco-conscious practices aligns with my commitment to protecting the environment. Physiovits, on the other hand, addresses the growing need for preventive healthcare by providing science-backed nutraceuticals. Both brands strive to meet consumer needs while being responsible and transparent. It’s about creating products that make a positive difference in people’s lives and contribute to a healthier, more sustainable world.

Looking ahead, what does the future hold for Fuschia and Physiovits? What can we expect from both brands?

Dr. Mohit Bhatia: The future looks bright for both Fuschia and Physiovits. We are planning national expansion for both brands, with a continued focus on quality, sustainability, and consumer health. With the growing demand for local, ethical, and high-quality products, we are confident that both Fuschia and Physiovits will continue to thrive. As more consumers shift toward health-conscious and eco-friendly choices, we aim to remain at the forefront of these trends, offering products that not only address health and wellness but also align with our values of transparency and responsibility.

Physiovits

Dr. Bhatia, thank you for sharing your insights today. It’s clear that your innovative approach to skincare and nutraceuticals is making a lasting impact.

Dr. Mohit Bhatia: Thank you for having me. It’s been a pleasure discussing our journey, and we’re excited about the future and the positive changes we can bring to the health and wellness industry.

As these homegrown brands grow and expand nationally, they will continue to disrupt their respective markets, with a strong emphasis on quality, sustainability, and consumer trust. The future of Fuschia and Physiovits seems bright, as the Indian market continues to shift towards more local, ethical, and evidence-based products. In this way, Dr. Bhatia’s vision of innovation meets sustainability, with both brands leading the way toward a healthier, more responsible future for consumers in India and beyond.

But the general public or even media lack concern about environmental crimes. That is why the same uproar that is created in the country when there is a robbery, murder or in cases of crimes like domestic violence, is not created when a crime is committed in the field of environment. But if I share the statistics, you will realize that in our society and country, the crimes committed against the environment are as much as the crimes committed against humans. The irony is that society is less aware of environmental crimes, which is why verdicts in such cases take years in various courts in India.

The National Crime Records Bureau releases various statistics every year regarding the decline in crimes in the country. According to the statistics, until last year, there have been 88,400 cases related to environment in various courts of India, whose proceedings are going through extremely slowly. Also, new cases are being added to these figures every day. If the court has to dispose of all these cases, it will have to deliver judgments of 242 cases per day. Otherwise, environmental cases will be hanging, and justice will be pending for the next 34 years!

Before I give my point of view in this article I want to give few more facts. So that you can understand the importance of prompt delivery of environment related crimes and cases pending in court. India has more than ten different very important Acts for damage to the forests and the environment. Such as the Forest Act 1927 and Forest Conservation Act 1980, Wildlife Conservation Act 1927, Environment Protection Act 1986, Land Mining Act, Air and Water Pollution Prevention and Control Act, Noise Pollution Act and Cigarette and Tobacco Manufacturing Act. Apart from this, there are separate laws for wildlife and bird trafficking.

All these laws are created because there is a very large network that makes crores of rupees by damaging the forest environment and animal trafficking and poaching for their products. These networks are run by big mafias who have no value for the forests, wildlife, or the environment. Rather, they harm the environment for their personal gain and pose a grave threat to the safety of the lives of millions of people. The climate issues we are seeing today also have a huge contribution from such crimes. Because such crimes do not happen only in India, the world is plagued by such mafias. Due to which many rivers and seas of the world are polluted today, illegal land mining is taking place in many places of the world, the forests are being cut or burnt down indiscriminately and many species of plants and animals have been endangered or destroyed due to animal trafficking.

Whatever that is happening elsewhere in the world, we can not do anything about it. But when any such crime is registered in India, if the courts take swift action and punish the culprits severely, it will set an example in the society that the courts are very serious about environment protection. Otherwise, witnessing the environment-related cases that are pending in the courts, the illegal sand or mining mafia or those who pollute the rivers or those who pollute the air will get courage that the punishment or verdict will be delivered only if the proceedings are held in the court in such a case... with that philosophy that till that time we will make crores of rupees!

Finally, now it is very necessary to give priority to environment protection. Environmental protection is an issue with which the lives of millions of people are connected. In the last five years, we have experienced many disasters because of climate change. We have also realized that our monsoon pattern has now changed radically. Also the number of hot days in a year has increased tremendously. In all this, such greedy criminals have their contribution. They must be severely punished so that others will be afraid to commit crimes against the environment. Finally, even in this way, if forests, rivers, air, or our wildlife can be protected, then we must take steps in that direction. No one has the right to pollute or destroy our common wealth and resources.

(The author, Viral Desai, a three-time President Awardee, is a well-known environmentalist, author and businessman of the country.)
